We were super excited to go to Moondog Pizza today for the first time. They were having their pride fest, and we had had it on the calendar for months. We skipped breakfast in hopes of filling up on the garlic knots, salad, and pizza. Well...that never happened. We understand "busy" during a special event. However, there was no soda. Only water, Sprite, and sweet tea. Ordered garlic knots and 2 slices after we saw there was a huge wait for food to come out. 1 HOUR!!! After 1 hour we got 2 slices of pizza. Then 15 minutes later the garlic knots. The other 2 slices never showed up. The manager comped the food. That's nice. But, several opportunities to save face and show good customer service were passed over. The "ticket" issue was know long before we sat down. Server was clearly stressed out and overwhelmed. Management was more into socializing in the dining room that getting on the line to pump the food out. The slices we ate were "meh", not super warm and burned cheese on the bottom. Will we give them another chance? Maybe. There are other places with good pizza, like Twin Brothers, that acknowledge service issues when they arise and don't try to explain it away with excuses. read more

When you are tired at end of your day, Moondog Pizza has a perfect pizza for you. Great local joint with fresh pizza. Tried the calzone which was also good. Keeps a nice selection of local brews as the perfect accompaniment to pizza. Wish I had a picture to pst but we were too hungry. read more

The food here is so freaking good. Fresh and local ingredients that you can taste. Our server (Megan, I think) was awesome. She had the whole place to herself and our service was still good. Some minor mistakes with the order but Megan fixed it. The Green Pie is freaking amazing!!!! read more

Delicious food, great service, fun entertainment. We drove around Downtown Morganton on a Sunday afternoon as we were passing through just seeing if anything caught our eye or sparked our interest and we landed on Moondog Pizza. I am so glad we wandered into this restaurant and they just happened to be having a Drag Show brunch! Entertainment was great, vibes were high and the food was yummy. On Valentine's Day- we started at another restaurant but had a horrible experience there and ended up leaving. On a whim we decided to try Moondog. Everything was amazing. Had the Burke N Stock and The Big Dill pizzas. Super yummy. Our server was so nice and went well above our expectations! My only complaint at all was it was very cold inside the restaurant. I have ordered from this place a few times and they have always been super nice but they almost always messed up my order. I love that they are inclusive! I always get the vegan cheese because I am unable to have dairy. I love that they have vegan cheese. The most recent mess up was, last time I ordered they gave me a pizza with bacon on it. Really enjoyed this place. It seems to be one of Morganton's best known restaurants to people that live outside of Morganton. I found the garlic knots to be your standard fare. The dough was done well, but basic. The real unique treat was the Dogfather Pizza (Dijon mustard base, pepperoni, salami, banana peppers, white onion, provolone). Absolutely atrocious behavior by their staff & if you have kids DO NOT BRING THEM HERE. 1st- Our Greek salad that is suppose to have feta cheese (which it did) but also had a few pieces of goat cheese in it and when we said we couldn't eat it and asked if it could be removed from the bill- the manager (I assume) lost her mind & came storming out with a bag of cheese from the kitchen saying "THIS is what it is..FETA" with the worst attitude I've ever seen in an establishment. First...We didn't say there wasn't feta in the salad, because there was...but there were absolutely pieces of goat cheese that may have accidentally made it into the salad...It's not out of the realm of possibility. But she caused the biggest scene, yelling at us that there is NO way it's goat cheese. Like calm down lady- maybe some accidentally got in there, no big deal but we can't eat it. On top of that there was clay animation (The PJ's I think it's called based on a google search) playing in their tv above the bar with subtitles on, that was so disgusting talking about PORN, making PORNAGRAPHY and all kinds of vile stuff. Great pizza spot in downtown Morganton, across from Hillman brewing. It's up a good flight of stairs, but if you need, there is a way to get in from the back that is a ramp. The salads are big, I got a wedge, and I got a bowl with two wedges. Really good though. We ordered garlic knots that were pretty good, and our table got a large supreme pizza. It was cut into 8 slices, really could have been cut into 12 or more. The bottom crust was pretty darn thin, but appropriate amount on the edge. Very good amount of toppings. There was only one server for the whole restaurant the night we went, but she did an amazing job rotating through everyone. One thing I did think was weird, they sell beer, wine and liquor, but you can't buy a bottle of wine for the table. Seems them are the rules. Regardless, great pizza and great service. Remember to ask to have it cut into more than 8 pieces, they are huge on a large. Private lot or street parking available. read more

Best pizza I've had in a while! We got the Moondoggery pizza 14" and we devoured it!!! We started with the fried mozzarella that I would eat every day of my life. Everything is fresh! The salami is cut in house, mozzarella super fresh tasting, and the toppings on our pizza were all sautéed to perfection!! Staff was awesome! It is always nice to show up when you checked to see if they were open and it says yes. Only to spend 1 hour round trip to find out the doors are locked for a "Private Event" and they are closed. Atmosphere is good and the service has gotten better than it was the last few years. It was incredibly bad for a while. It was very slow back in the kitchen this time, but at least the servers were friendly and trying hard. Pizza is hit or miss each time on quality, but they have a nice menu with lots of options. The $5 lunch special is a great deal I especially like the French Country Pear salad. The 4.1% surcharge for paying with a credit card was the biggest turnoff to me. It doesn't cost anyone that much to process credit cards. I know the owners will say they're just passing along the cost, but that's not entirely true and surcharging is a turnoff to me. I always have such high hopes when I go back for the first time in a year or so, but unfortunately I usually walk away understanding why I don't go very often. read more

But we went up the stairs to the top floor and it opened to a big loft. Plenty of space for "distancing". It was clean and had a funky vibe. Waitress/owner?
