I'm finding that the pleasure in visiting is not merely what one finds in the wines, it lies in the character of the people. Cathleen Vicini (owner) is a delight to visit with, not just about wines but her dogs, parrot, the Italian influence in their wines (her husband), much more... I'm just a good ole boy, wino in training, having moved here about a month ago from Silicon Valley (no place for ole men any-longer). The Trecini experience is different from what tourists seem to gravitate to, you know the disneyesque/romantic vision of a winery. Trecini is a tasting boutique where one enjoys privacy along with personal attention. Plenty of time for questions from a master at the trade. Tasting only whites, as red's chemical additives trigger a migraine, Cathleen pointed out many of their wines come from Italy with "no" additives. This led to me tasting one of their wonderful reds with no reaction. There was also a very interesting surprise when she introduced me to their Sparkling Rockpile Zinfandel. They partner with Mumm to produce this fun, delicious wine. I'm committed to the claims, purchased some. Where are they; Located on what some might call a side street from Downtown Santa Rosa. What a great last minute find! We had a tasting guided by Cathy, the Co-owner. She was inviting and extremely informative, teaching new tasting techniques that truly brought out all the subtleties of each offering. Her explanations of the wines' origins and a bit of her own story truly made the experience. Not to mention, Ciacco, the parrot welcomed us in with a greeting. Such a cozy space with an inclusive ambiance to enjoy a few local and imported wines. We didn't have reservations but we decided to walk in and see if there was availability. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a "HELLO." I was looking around to see which employee said that but come to find out, the welcome greeting was from the lovely parrot named Checho." Our wine tasting experience was one for the books! I have wanted to come here since I moved to the area several years ago because I saw the Trecini Cellars Sauv Blanc everywhere by the glass and it was delicious. Who are these people making this delicious wine? A few years ago I was judging for the Harvest Wine Competition and one of the judges at my table was this very cool, funny, and knowledgeable lady named Cathy Trecini. Very sharp and an owner of Trecini Cellars. So last week I called on a Saturday and Kerri answered and said come on over - and it's a sit down tasting, yes, score! We tasted everything and I was so happy I finally got my butt over there to taste their amazing selection. Kerri did an outstanding job, she really understands flavor profiles, fruit characteristics, and wine production. And they also import wines from Italy under their label which really adds to the scope of flavors to choose from. Very affordable and well-structured wines. They have an Italian Spumante, Vermentino, Barbera d'Asti (much better than the typically overripe version here imo). The rest of the selection is SB, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel (Rockpile!) and a late harvest SB (Sauvignon Blanc). I enjoyed all of the wines - there is a wine for everyone in this vast selection (Italian varietals are part of it too). Also, Kerri gave us just enough of a small piece of cheese to taste the wine with which evolves what you are tasting. I hate to go tasting when they pour you 1/3 of an ounce, this was not like that there was plenty to taste and enjoy to get the full nuances of each wine. Very nice people here! Great wines and a comfortable setting. The knowledge we gained about wines in general as well as the region and their specific wines was almost too much to absorb! Of course we're having wine shipped home so we can relive the experience (absent the knowledge, unfortunately!) I hope you're able to experience it for yourslef! My friend and I dropped in on Cathy's tasting room on our way to a wedding. She was great, very knowledgeable and accommodating as a wine guide and just a genuine personality. She has an easygoing manner and was accompanied by her friendly dog Knox, a Canine Companions breeder, who greeted us upon entry before we saw any of the humans. The Sauvignon Blanc was light and smooth, and their reds are not overly bold. Cathy explained that their wines are not made to be specifically paired with certain foods, but are designed to help bring out the flavors. She then gave us samples of cheese and chocolate to test that out with specific wines. The room itself is located in downtown so you don't really get a vineyard experience, but the furniture is lovely and you can't beat the service. I would be happy to return or select their wines from a menu based on this experience. One of the most fun wine tastings I've had. My girlfriend I were lucky to come in during a quiet Sunday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves. We had a great guided tasting with Kerri that included several different wines (definitely more than the standard five pours) and meat/cheese pairings. We hear about food+wine pairings all the time, but this tasting really made it clear to me what goes into a good pairing. I was feeling adventurous and asked Kerri to give us a food+wine pairing that would be terrible together; she was happy to oblige. It was like night and day compared to the other pairings. I'd definitely recommend it so you can appreciate the good pairings even more. My favorite tastings are ones where I leave having learned a lot and this was definitely one of the most informative ones I've been to. Huge props to Kerri for being so knowledgeable! We went last Saturday afternoon for a little girls' day out birthday celebration. First- definitely call in advance. They have limited space and it is not a "cram as many as you can in and give them shoddy service" tasting room. No, it's a really lovely experience sitting around a GORGEOUS table and really enjoying the wines. Kerri Cook was pouring and she was a delight. Knowledgeable, fun, attentive. The food pairings we had with the wines were heaven. I bought wine... but I really wanted cheese, too! I do wish they had a Chardonnay (hint hint) but I enjoyed the wines they had very much. A sparkling Zin was a fun change of pace, and the Russian River Pinot Noir stood out to me. Wine prices ranged from quite good to normal for the area (No one makes a cheap Pinot, sadly). I can't praise this place enough. It's in a easy place to get to and right near downtown. I originally found the place while looking for some donations for my school which is close by. They were not only very generous, but so friendly that we decided to celebrate a retirement there. They offered to give us a free food pairing and were so patient while waiting for our entire party to show. It is an intimate little wine tasting room that held our party of 12 perfectly. Our tasting with Cathy was one of the highlights on our girls trip Sonoma! After doing a wine tour the day before, we went to downtown Santa Rosa for lunch, and then looked for a tasting room, instead of driving out to more vineyards. When we stumbled in there was only one other couple, who left before our tasting started. This is a very intimate experience. The key word here is experience! It was about 2 hours long and we tasted 12 wines. The conversation would shift between the wines and other general conversation. We were surprised when we finished and so much time had passed. Cathy will work with you if you do have reservations or a time crunch, but I recommend making yourself available for the whole experience. read more

I just tried to enter your tasting room, however, was turned away, by a woman who said she was too busy with 4 other individuals, for a tasting. I only wanted to purchase the sparkling Zinfandel, however, couldn't even express that to the woman working, as she showed me to the door before I could express my wishes. As someone who has traveled from the east coast, with great expectations of trying your wine, I am extremely disappointed. I knew I was late for a tasting, but definitely wanted to bring the sparkling Zinfandel back to where I am staying, with my party. The lack of customer service was abysmal. Absolutely pathetic. There were plenty of open seats available, however, she felt it was an inconvenience to her to set up any other spots. If you don't want business, just close your doors. read more

I recently tried the Trecini Cellars with my girlfriends. Cathy was fantastic with our tastings she's explained each wine and had special cheeses crackers and chocolate to try with all the wines. Cathy was an expert about the wines she knew every nuance of these wines, she is the owner makes sense lol we tried I believe all their wines even a very tasty dessert wine. The vermentino was light and delicious and only $13.00 a bottle I also got the Pinot Noir $50 dollars a bottle super pricey but delicious. If you buy a bottle they wave the tasting fee which is only $12.00 per person. The tasting room is small cozy it one big long table. Cathy has the sweetest doggie you'll enjoy loving on him, and a very cool bird we all enjoyed playing with her babies. they sell all sorts of wine gadgets and wine goodies. Certainly worth the trip my friends. I had a wonderful time here tasting talking laughing with friends my favorite way to spend the day. We chanced upon this winery on Black Friday this year during a visit to Petaluma wine country. After a lunch at Brewster's, my sister and her boyfriend and our friends were looking for a place to do wine tastings. Unfortunately several places were closed for the holiday. It must have been our day though because when my sister called Trecini, they were open and their afternoon party was a no show so the table was already set up for a wine tasting. The six of us made our way over and were greeted by one of the most pleasant and sweet host you'll find. Kerri accommodated us immediately, getting us water for the table, warning us about the loud toilet and introducing us the funny chatty store pet, a green parrot. We were able to sample several different white and red wines from Italy, most of which were paired with a tasty treat to tease the appetite and complement the wines we had. Kerri took the time to explain the different wines and how to prepare our palates for each one. Her friendly personable demeanor really contributed to the pleasant experience that we had at the cellar. On top of that, because of the holiday, they offered several Black Friday and "local" discounts which significantly reduced the price for several of the products we purchased. They also sold cool wine accessories and olive oil (worth tasting!) I was also feverishly taking detailed tasting notes on the wine list and at the end of the tasting Kerri brought me a complimentary notebook and pen to take home- Now that's what I call five star service! I highly recommend coming to check Trecini out. Their welcoming, family style atmosphere,excellent customer service and comfy seating make for a heart warming one of a kind experience! A flight cancellation re-routed us to the area for a couple days over the holidays. We foolishly thought Trecini would be open on Christmas Day and showed up to the tasting room downtown. Kathy happened to be in the office, opened the door to respond to our inquiry, and then offered "well, you're here, do you want to try some wines?" "Uhm, yes! Are you sure? You weren't planning for tastings today though!" But she took us in anyway. Already feeling like an imposition, we expected maybe she'd let us try 4 or 5 wines and send us on our way. But she spent over 2 hours with us letting us sample 14+ wine varietals. What amazing hospitality and attention to the customer the likes of which, I had never previously experienced. We were so floored by the quality of the wine, that we bought 9 bottles to take with us (for reference, we typically by 1 or 2 when we enjoy a wine-tasting). We also loved our conversation with her. It's hard to decide which we enjoyed more - the phenomenal wines or the interaction with our host. Kathy has a warmth and wit about her that makes her immediately feel like an old friend. She was authentic and down-to-earth and so knowledgeable of the wines and their history. This ranks as my number 1 best wine-tasting experience. Ever. P.S. We had such an amazing experience here! Cathy was such a wonderful host. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon in a large group and usually, it's advised to call ahead of time for a reservation but she was able to take us all in that day. We were first greeted by her super adorable dog, Knox who will intermittently walk around and ask for pets and belly rubs lol! Cathy really knows her way around wine and it really showed when she was able to explain all the different types and how it's made, etc so that even we could understand and differentiate the taste and how it affect our meals. What a gem! We stopped by for a bottle of Chardonnay, turned out they don't produce it. Almost left the place but luckily Kerry offered us to try their famous wines. We ended up staying for an hour and a half and enjoyed every second of it! Their Sauvignon Blancs are the best as well as Pino and Merlo. My son and I enjoy wine and are trying to learn more by going to tastings like this. We were visiting SR for some hiking and to visit the Safari and could not pass up an opportunity to stop by a tasting room that had such great reviews.
