Sadly I must update this review. For some reason weeds have been a non stop issue with the landscaping that was done less than a year ago. Within a a month of the landscaping- weeds started growing heavily through the rock beds , and then later in borders and in the concrete dividers. I immediately called the owner and he did send out some young guys to pull weeds and sprayed . He did not come to view himself. Less than a month later weeds were coming through again. I contacted him again and several promises were made to come back but it never happened. I was told by another land scraper that the weed fabric installed was probably low quality and the rocks needed to be removed, a weed killer applied to the dirt , and a higher quality weed fabric relaid. This will all cost me additional money , which I spent $5000 for this yard landscape. Another thing the drips that were installed never properly worked so many of the plants died due to lack of water. I was advised this would be I investigated, and it was not. While I understand weeds will happen over time, they are actually worse now than before? I wanted a low maintenance backyard landscape, which this isn't it. read more

I found Jeff and his crew when they were working on a neighbor's backyard. I was interested in some basic yard work in the front - removing grass and putting in new sod, a large mulch area, drought-tolerant plants and a little concrete work. I called for a quote and within days met with Jeff and had numbers in hand. It just so happened that there was also a window to have the work done the following week! The quote was fair and I was very happy to have the project done so quickly. Shortly after the initial quote, I made some changes which resulted in a little miscommunication on a couple pieces of the project. More time would surely have eliminated these concerns, but Jeff and I were able to resolve the gaps in expectations before the work was completed with only minor setbacks. Jeff exceeded expectations with my requests for drainage, which he ran along both sides of my driveway all the way to the sidewalk, and added in multiple drought tolerant plants to add to the design. Upon completion there are a couple small cracks in the concrete that showed up days after being laid, and my hose and mailbox were damaged during the construction (which Jeff offered to replace and re-install), but after having been through a kitchen remodel and other yard projects through other contractors, have learned there will always be minor adjustments or imperfections with any job. Jeff is very responsive, and his crew is hard working and polite. I am very happy with the work and that I was able to get a fair price and have the work done so quickly. I was initially impressed with the person who came out to give me the estimate, took notes of precisely what I wanted & gave me a quote in writing 15 minutes later. Unfortunately when I chose to go with them I called the company & got a whole different story! Instead of the estimate by trees & the overall job I was told by someone else who looked at the quote that instead of what they quoted me for the job they came out to see that they would be charging by the hour & they would be sending half a crew to start the job to boot! Unfortunately this was not an honorable or professional business to deal with. You don't quote an estimate in writing then come up with a different cost analysis once someone tries to hire you! Or even worse do some hack job to fit it into a certain time frame that the quote was based on! As proof of my above review & the attempt by universal tree service to address a negative review. Attached is photo of said estimate. I told them when they changed their estimate to an hourly rate & half a crew that it was counter to the written quoted estimate given and I would not accept a hack job in 3 hours to fit their new hourly estimate. which is why they did not take the job! A week later after my estimated price to cut down two tall dead trees (that were extremely annoying) I contacted Jeff for scheduling he was very friendly and honest and despite their busy schedule he booked me real fast for this week. And this morning got a courtesy call that Andrew and his team were arriving 20 minutes later which was nice gave me tome to get outta bed. His team were professional and got down the trees without causing any harm. And just like the reviews said they cleaned up everything and left no debris behind. Jeff and his team were great! There was some miscommunication (on my end) when I originally asked him to come out for clean up. He worked with me and my fiance and came back out the following weekend to do the demo. He and his guys are very polite and trustworthy, they came in and got the work done quickly, as it was a pretty big team. Universal Tree Solutions did a fantastic job for me! I recently moved into a lovely house in North Natomas, with lots of trees! In fact, a few too many. One large one in the front which was overgrown, and five in the back of varying sizes. In the back, they were starting to grow into each other and into the neighbor's trees as well. In total I had one medium and one small tree removed, and all the remaining trees (four in total trimmed). The one at the front needed about 10-15 feet of height taken off. I first contacted Jeff via Yelp messages, and he was very responsive and set up an appointment with Elmer to do a quote the same day. Elmer turned up right on time and was very friendly and thorough in providing a written quote. He wasn't rushed and had lots of great answers to my questions, as I had zero knowledge about tree maintenance. Elmer provided a very competitive quote, but I didn't commit right on the spot as I was getting a few other quotes. In the end, the quote from Universal was the most competitive and I planned for the work to be done. On the day, Elmer and his assistant showed up right on time, and we reviewed the work to be done. The quote was very detailed so Elmer didn't have any more questions, we just confirmed everything before starting. They got straight to work and made very quick progress on the two tree removals. The trimming was more complicated due to the height and positioning of the trees, but they were very careful about being courteous to neighbors, which I really appreciate. In the end, all the work was completed by the afternoon, and both the front and back yard were immaculate. Literally you would have no way of knowing that such large-scale work at just been done. Not even a single leaf was left over. Elmer and his assistant were always so polite and courteous and called my cell phone the couple of times he had a question. They trimmed and pruned my impossibly out-of-control fruitless mulberry and not only made it look wonderful but also caused it to grow more beautiful as the weeks and months passed. They arrived when they said they would. They were friendly, cheerful, hard-working, intelligent, and capable. They cleaned up everything and hauled it away. And they came in UNDER BUDGET!!! TLDR: NOPE! To begin with Tree and Landscape Pros' bid to do a complete front and back yard remodel was extremely competitive compared to other bids. This was impressive. I realize that low bid offers could be risky too (i.e. quality of their work potentially lower than average) but the price differential was too compelling to ignore. I am mostly satisfied with the transformation of my property. Given the cost - it met my expectations. There was a lot of labor put into it (I thought the workers were great too). I can now appreciate the backyard like I could never before. We both acknowledged that we did miss an important requirement in the bid. I take some blame for that. Before the bid was generated I had clearly explained that we needed to move the existing irrigation system from it's original position to a new location in the back (this was mentioned once to the estimator and once to Jeff - the owner - in person). Unfortunately this was omitted in the final revision of the bid. I get it - mistakes happen. I again brought this up during the project and got mix messages about it being resolved. I had a discussion with Jeff and he agreed to resolve this by hiring another outfit to put a system in (I am assuming they don't have the expertise in-house). I was left with the understanding that someone would be arriving at 4 pm that day. They didn't show. I was then left with the impression this would be resolved "ASAP". It wasn't. Lessons learned. Just seems like most landscape companies would not have omitted this requirement given the Summer conditions here. I also would have thought that this omission would be an obvious "red flag" during the installation of plants (half died already). Tree and Landscape Pros has the potential to be a great landscaping company and I hope that will be the case in the near future. Well..It looks like I have to roll-up my sleeves and fix this problem myself :-(. (the three star is primarily for the reasonable bid and 'mostly' meeting expectations) Downgraded to 2 stars after discovering a few more items of concern. 1) Did not cap the sprinkler heads when removing the front lawn. Just covered up what was there with fabric and rocks. I wish I had been there to prevent that. 2) Covered my neighbors sprinkler heads with landscape fabric causing their lawn on that side to die. Why would you do that in the first place. 3) Drain line from backyard to front of house has an exit to far below ground to be an effective outflow for runoff from the backyard. Not sure what physics could make that make any sense.. I have regrets choosing them to do my landscaping. Sorry to say. Unfortunately I did spend quite a bit of money for that. read more

I can see why these guys get such good reviews. When I contacted them for an estimate Jeff got back to me so quickly. He had someone at my house within a few days for the estimate and it was half of the other quotes I got. So I scheduled a time for him to come out and help me with the flooding in my backyard. He and his team were there when he said they would be and completed the job in one day even though I think they were short staffed and it was raining. He even showed me that he deleted my credit card info from his system after he charged me and was done for the day. Can't ask for better service than that. I used this company a year or so back for some back yard tree pruning and clearning and was impressed with the price, work, and speed in which they got the job done. Fast foward a few years and I was looking around for a company re-land scape my front yard. After getting a few quotes from other land scapers I called Universal Tree Solutions to see what their offer was. Let me just say, without even showing them the estimates from others, they beat the price, substantially!!! They replaced the sprinkler system, tilled the soil, laded new sod, planted some new plants, and added dark mulch. While they were working people would walk by and complement the way the yard was looking! They worked fast taking only 3 days to complete the yard. Each time there was an issue they made sure to keep in contact with me and would provide me with multiple solutions. The best part is that there was no up charging if more materials were needed. My yard looks amazing and I am still getting complements from neighbors. I highly recommend them and when its time to do the back yard Universal Tree Solutions is the ONLY company I will call. Be very careful when using Universal Tree Solutions. They cut a tree down in our backyard and a falling limb broke a cement slab around our pool. They would not admit to it and after 5 attempts asking them to come out to look at it and repair it, they kept saying they would, but never did. I will never use them for anything.
