Called for an estimate and they cut down the tree the same day because they happened to have another job down the street. The agreement was to do the job in two parts: the tree that day then the stump and roots in a follow up appointment. Paid for the first and was told to pay for the second job separately. That was totally fine as we weren't in an immediate hurry. 5 weeks later and no follow up appointment despite my multiple calls and texts. I only got a voice mail saying they were busy and would book me when they could. I tried to follow up the following week, but no call or text back. Terrible communication and only cut the tree for the first job as a convenience because their guys were already down the street. Already got a different company to finish the job. It's too bad because their guys are great, but the person who schedules is very disorganized. read more

I only gave S&J two stars because of poor customer service. I called to get A tree estimate for a Bradford pear and some pruning on a neighbor redwood trees. I met with James and got an estimate after I called the next day. I also requested a Arborist report for just the condition of these redwood trees because they belong to my neighbor. Had to call several times and found out they contract out for their Arborist. Their advertisement says differently. The arborist did call to come out and never showed up or called, so I called S&J and told them to forget about the job. read more

My husband and I called this company early in the week and we were able to arrange an appointment to get an estimate a few days later. When James showed up to look and our LARGE overgrown liquid-amber he gave us a reasonable quote and said his team would be available that day to address our tree's needs. Two hours later S&J Tree Care showed up and spent about 1-2 hours making our tree safe and pretty. They took about 10ft off the top of this 50ft tree, took in the side branches that were close to breaking and thinned out the already dead branches. Today S&J came out to remove some old trees and Clean up a large 45-year-old tree. Steve worked around my schedule, and was very prompt in contacting me, and getting things going. Today, they showed up right on schedule. They did an amazing jobs on the removal and clean up. They made some recommendations of things I can do to improve the health of my tree, rather convincing me that they should do it. They are also very tidy. The estimator visited my property and provided a verbal quote and said the quote would be e-mailed but 2 days later I hadn't received the e-mail. I contacted the office and was told I would receive the quote in 30 minutes but still NO quote. So I can not recommend a company who does not provide the promised quote or at least give an excuse for not wanting to cut down 7 trees. read more

Had S&J Tree Care remove 5 trees from our front yard (2 of which were very large, and 2 were palm trees). Very reasonable price. They knocked all the work out in a matter of hours, including grinding down the stumps. Our front yard is a totally different yard now! We had no issues re-grading and leveling the lawn as the stumps were ground down to quite a good depth. They cleaned up after themselves, we had no fallen branches left behind. You came out to us in the fall of last year, and I called shortly after the guys left, less than an hour after they arrived. They seem to have just hacked around the top of several trees, which was confusing because when James had first come out he explained that the cuts had to be made at the joints of the branches. He had told me they would support one small fruit tree that had a branch falling over but when they came he asked if I had a stick they could use to support it. They then just pruned it up and took weight off that branch, but did not ultimately solve the bigger problem he and I had talked about. One of our main concerns was a magnolia in the middle of our backyard. We were told they would come back to do it in the springtime when he could tell which branches were blooming and which were dead. The guys left quickly because James said he had to go to another appointment. They left two trees in the front totally untouched. But they asked for payment in full, swearing to come back "once we just send a message to let them know when the magnolia is blooming". Two trees in the back were also untouched. I left several voicemails which were not returned. Then, we contacted them again in the spring, they missed the first appt we set. I asked for a partial refund and they instead insisted on setting another appt, promising they would be there. Sure enough, we got contacted that morning, asking us what time they could come. I told them the time had been set on the phone the week before and we weren't flexible, as we had planned our day around that. They couldn't make it. We told them to not bother coming back and felt completely frustrated. They just don't seem to really care about anything but some quick trimming. However, the check we wrote that initial day was deposited within a couple of hours of the appt. As an fyi, we had a landscape architect friend from the neighborhood come over Friday morning and he confirmed that the trees were not pruned properly and the cuts made will endanger the health of the plants. read more

This review is a must for me. I have so many trees around my house and literally it was beginning to be a problem for the neighbors. I had 3 other companies out for a quote this company was my fourth the owner came on Christmas Eve and quoted me the most amazing price which was way below what the others quoted and it's twice the amount of work I'm asking for. These guys showed up all 5 of them 10 min early which I appreciate. This is a first class company and I mean professional to the highest of standards. They are top notch with Walmart prices. Forgive me if that sounds odd but it's true. I will never ever go to another tree company again. They are still here working hard and I just found out that they are all related and their mother just passed away a few days ago. I don't know how they are doing it. I had a damaged 112 yr old Hackberry that needed to be removed from my residential property. S&J Tree Care did the job carefully, professionally, and quickly. This tree was severely damaged by the wind and half the tree was still standing and needed to be removed. S&J Did an amazing job at our house! We had four, 40-50 foot Trees to take down. One of them was in an almost inaccessible place over the river. The other three were challenges for their own individual reasons. Oh yeah, they also ground off a 22' diameter stump, topped an overgrown volunteer bay tree and cut down a 30' volunteer kumquat tree. They were attentive to my paranoia about safety and took every measure to ensure nobody got hurt - very politely. You can't go wrong with these guys. I then called back and was promised a quote with dates to remove the tree within 24 hours and, again, never heard back. Had this been a fallen tree, I would have been left in the dark. I guess they don't want my business. I ended up calling another tree service today and they replied in 30 mins.
