We have tried them all. I don't want to mention names but you know: the fancy trucks and expensive jobs. One crew left such savage scars on my palm trees that I could really get upset. Then I found the guys at Hamon. John Hamon and his son, Chase, run a solid service. No BS. Just some guys who show up when they say they will show up. They do what they say they will do. The price is competitive for the better quality crews. I have been very pleased with Hamon Landscape and Tree Service. They just did my backyard on February 9, 2019 and it looks great! Pruned my queen palms, trimmed my camellias, pruned all the citrus, etc. They cleaned up after they were done and left our back yard ready for spring. I would not recommend anybody that I did not have first hand experience with. I have had Hamon Landscape and Tree Service in my yard on three separate occasions and we have been happy each time. CRAPE MURDER! I paid arborist prices to have three mature, well-cared for trees trimmed last winter: a crape myrtle, Japanese maple, and an orange. Now that the leaves are falling on the 2 deciduous trees, it is apparent that they were all very unprofessionally hacked back. They are all three displaying the ugly hyper-growth disfigurement of being topped off. The Japanese maple is especially sad. I contacted Chase about this and asked him what he could do about it. He said that this disfiguring was "normal" and sent me a bid for $700 to fix it. If you value your trees, find someone who is a legitimate arborist and can handle your trees with the care they deserve. read more

Absolutely fantastic locally owned business. Family owned and operated. I hired Haman to come and trim four trees and remove a smaller one and they came out and did an amazing job. The jobsite foreman was very good at communicating any changes that needed to be done (I had a limb I wanted to keep but because of a large crack (12 inches or longer) they were able to take a photo and show me we agreed to go ahead and remove that one as well. Had Father and son come over for a bid on a monster tree in my front yard! No doubt about it. The owner seemed in the ballpark for a price and when I told him ok, lets take it out. I received a call the next day from the son stating, his Father had been confused and that the price has now almost doubled!!! Cannot be that far off the price even adding in a $2,000 rate for a crane for the day. I then called some reputable companies and received significantly lower bids and I chose Fallen Leaf and they did an Amazing job! And fairly priced. Would not choose Haman again! they need to get their inconsistent bidding in order and it appears I'm not the only one who feels this way! And I also don't appreciate being price gauged. read more

Disappointing service. Very hit and miss and lots of days when their crew just can't seem to make it out.

I took off work to wait for an estimate today. They never showed, and never bothered to contact me. When I contacted them to ask where they were they said they'd given me a prior estimate then I should go with that. They'd given me two prior estimates that were wildly different for the same work (the second was significantly higher than the first). There had been additional storm damage so I assume that impacted things. Bottom line. Flippant, unprofessional, poor customer service, bad attitude. Don't know how they are at trimming trees but the lack of professionalism is enough to make me not want to find out read more

Haman did a large job for my next door neighbor, so I had them remove a tree limb that had previously fallen on our roof while they were there working. They did a great job for me and my neighbor and cleaned up all the debris each day. They were professional and courteous. I would use them again. read more

These guys are awesome. Friendly, hardworking, and punctual. They quoted me 1150 for a trim job and the removal of some shrubs and cedar mulch my dog had been getting into. The initial free quote was pressure-free and they were VERY reasonable. He sent me an invoice via email the same night. They scheduled me ten days later as they were scheduled through the next few weeks. On the day of, they got here earlier than they told me and started working right away. All of the team members were polite and hardworking. We had some trees removed from another landscaping company, Peace and Joy, a while back and the things that bugged me the most about my experience were that they left the job site messy and that they left cigarette butts all over the yard (in a non-smoking house) where my dog could eat them. And on top of that, they cashed the check I gave them before the stumps were even removed. After a trip to the emergency room for my dog, I knew I needed to go with another company. Chase and his crew are wonderful. They made up for every bad experience I've ever had with a landscaper, or contractor for that matter. We had a tree limb fall last Wednesday evening, due to the wind storm that came through. Unfortunately, that limb came down on our garage and power lines, creating a hazardous environment. It was 8:00 p.m., and I was able to get in touch with the owner through his emergency line. He provided me with some advice that helped me ensure the SMUD representative cleared the hazardous issue (they were actually proposing to only turn the power off and leave us that way until the tree could get pulled off the line). If it wasn't for that call, I would have been without power for at least one night, if not longer! In addition to the advice and info, he also arranged to come out the very next morning and assess the situation. Not only was he there as promised, but he quickly provided an estimate (which was reasonable) and sent his team to do the work that very same morning. I can't praise this company enough! I will definitely call upon them for future landscaping needs, and I suggest anyone in the East Sac area do the same. read more

We recently had their crew do some heavy pruning on two liquid amber trees in our front yard. Without getting into too much detail, they were unable to finish the job, since they couldn't get the bucket thing close enough to the highest branches, because our neighbor's car was too close. They said they would come back later, after the neighbor was able to move the car. It's now been 3 1/2 weeks since they were here, and we have already paid them in full. I called last week, and was told that some of the crew was helping with the fires, so they're short handed. That's fine, as long as they don't forget us. I would have given a higher than 2 star rating, but I'm waiting to see if they do indeed, finish the job. When they do, I will write a full review. UPDATE: I changed my rating to 4 stars, because the crew returned yesterday, and finished the job! They were right on time both times they were here, and they did a good job of thinning out our Liquid Ambers, and removing dangerous, overhanging limbs. They were careful to try not to damage our other landscaping, but we did have a few broken branches on several shrubs. The cleanup effort was OK. They took away most of the debris, but we had to finish cleaning up. All in all, we're satisfied with this company, but we have had trimmers in the past who did a slightly better cleanup job, and weren't as expensive, which is why I am giving them only 4 stars, instead of 5. I tend to be a pretty hard grader, and to be honest, our yard is a complicated one. My best friend recommended them to me, but her trees were in the middle of a large lawn, and were easier to deal with. I actually would've liked to give them 4-1/2 stars, but I guess that's not an option. read more

I had a huge tree I needed to get rid of in my backyard. I went through the ordeal...got 5 quotes ranging from a few hundred bucks (from a wierdo I wouldn't trust in my backyard) to over three thousand dollars, and John Haman ended up with the best mix of "I trust this guy to not thrash my house" and price. Whereas other guys just looked at the tree, John was surveying the whole yard. ie He asked if he could up root and move some of my plants around so as not to hurt them when branches are falling (and of course, he replanted them at the end.) They did an excellent job trimming my 100-year old oak tree. I couldn't believe how heavy the branches were, but I am glad they reduced the weight of the canopy. Chase came out to my property to give an estimate for the work. He then helped me obtain the permit from the city arborist. We communicated by email and he was responsive. I've used Haman twice. They pruned my big sycamore last January and it's looking much better and healthier now. Earlier this week they removed a large Tulip tree (Liriodendron) and ground the stump. On both occasions the charges were fair, the work professional and the communication good. Scheduling the removal took some time because of bee and permit issues that needed to be resolved first but they kept in touch until all was in place. Though that job was messy my yard looked pristine when they left. I won't hesitate to call them again. read more

The day his crew came by, they started right away and made fast work of: taking down trees, Making a wood pile for my neighbor, grinding the stumps, cleaning up both back yard and front yard of debris, fixed side fence and on top of all that, STILL gave me, what I consider a fair price for all the extra trees and stumps I wanted removed. This was not a small job. He had a crew of about 6 people buzzing around doing exactly what was expected of them. It was great watching his crew. They really know what they are doing! Chad and his guys are truly artists when it comes to trimming large trees. They cleaned up a sycamore for us on 40th street and now it looks beautiful. Cleaned up everything and hauled it all away. I had meant to tel them to remove an old swing rope from our daughter's days a child but forgot to give them this instruction. It was way up on a high branch. Don't pay them... ...until they do absolutely EVERYthing they say they will. I had a huge tree removed and the owner promised to clean up the debris and reinstall the sprinkler heads his team had removed to accommodate their equipment. Instead they left my yard an un-mow-able mess. A month later, after repeated phone calls, they did return and remove the large debris and reinstall one of the sprinkler heads they removed, but they didn't clean up enough to find the second sprinkler. Another month has passed, my sprinkler head is still not reinstalled and my yard is still an un-now-able mess. So after spending $9,000 to have the tree removed, I will still have to pay to have someone clean up the mess they left behind. Lesson learned! read more

I looked for a tree service to cut down a tree that was hanging over into a neighbor's yard and growing close to the power lines. I actually looked on Yelp which allowed me to send out a request to several businesses at once. Haman replied to my inquiry the same day and set up an estimate promptly. Chase did the estimate and made sure to raise concerns about my neighbor's property that was right under the branches. I organized with my neighbor to have him move his things, but Chase's concern gave me confidence that he a) knew what he was doing and b) was very thorough. He and his crew showed up right on time on the day we arranged, all wore masks and, despite it being a tall tree, took only about 25 minutes. read more

Zero stars is much more applicable than 1 star. The owner is all talk, operating under old school, good 'ole boy philosophy. I worked with them to obtain a certified arborist's report for a tree removal that requires approval from the City. The report I got was a joke (only not funny). It was composed of some pictures and a single statement that the tree has "uncorrectable" defects and should be removed. This comes no where near the requirements from the City. When I called Haman and the arborist, neither would return my calls. I finally called Haman's emergency number and found out he had gotten my messages, and so had his arborist. He had advised his arborist he didn't need to call me and again went into one of his tirades about the city being unreasonable and that he was going to schedule a meeting with their department head to get them straightened out. When I called him and his arborist back a week later, he said my calls were "hounding" him and that I needed to follow up with the City to see how the meeting went. So I wasted $300 for a ridiculous excuse of an arborist report and left hoping his negative interaction with the City hasn't further damaged my potential to have a dangerous tree removed. Of note, his advice to us when we first met him was if it were his tree, he would take a drill and drill holes in a circle around the tree to kill it so the City would have to approve it's removal. We of course, rejected this ridiculous and illegal suggesrion! read more

Used them before and was very happy with them. Dealt with an older gentleman at that time. This time it took a while to connect with them, and talked to someone else this time. Had an appointment for a bid at 10:30 in the morning. Received a call less than twenty minutes before the gentleman was supposed to arrive for the appointment letting me know that he wasn't going to be able to come. He wanted me to send him pictures instead. I told him that I couldn't send him pictures, so he gave me a "probably going to be bid" that was almost twice as much as I was charged for the same work that they had done for me before. I am 76 years old, and I don't do pictures, or deal with people that flake out on appointments. I told the gentleman to forget it, that I would find someone else to do the work. He really didn't seem to care. I would not recommend this this company, or use them again. read more

The team was cool with letting me introduce my puppy to them before they started the work so he wouldn't be as freaked out, did a great job trimming the tree, and cleaned everything up leaving very little evidence of debris.
