I started going to Tree House Yoga years ago. The first day I was impatient: I considered myself athletic and wanted to progress quickly and start at a higher level. Once I relaxed and accepted that this was a particular method of yoga and I needed to give myself time to learn it, I started to really enjoy it and to learn. Though I was a runner and fairly limber, I'd had life-long back issues and was developing foot pain, but after a year or so of instruction at this particular yoga studio, I was much stronger and more fit. I was surprised at the extent to which it strengthened my core, among many other benefits. When my schedule changed I stopped going, thinking I'd do yoga here and there among other athletic pursuits, but after a couple of years I started to feel like I was falling apart, physically. I'm at a pretty busy point in my life, but I recognize now that I need these classes for my health and well-being. I've been back in for two years, with the same teacher and the same group of dedicated regulars for this period. Nowhere else have I found such focused, attentive, individualized instruction. I might walk in at start of class one day and the teacher says to me, "I was thinking about what you were working on with the headstand last week. Why don't we try this today?"--and he's come up with a new approach. All of the instructors are like this: masters of their art. I've been attending classes at THIY for 10 years now and love it here - obviously. See other positive comments - ditto. And FREE week is always offered between sessions. The studio and its teachers are not getting rich off providing this quality service. Thus, the 'no credit cards' - many of my small business friends opt out of taking credit cards - yes inconvenient ,but these days keeping cost down keeps your business alive. The teachers here LOVE their job and it comes across in the classes. After nasty car accidents and bad surgeries my range of ability was looking bleak. THIY has kept me going through it all and helped me maintain abilities and work through times of aggravations. Pat is excellent at adjusting poses so you have a successful experience. Peter H found this annoying , but a newbie to yoga doesn't realize how important this info is in accommodating any physical challenge you may have and prevent any further injury. Pat has had 20+ years of extensive training in this area. Her other teachers have also gone through extensive training too. THIY has something for every level of fitness. Tip: Between class times can be a little chaotic to conduct an assessment of the place - there's 15 minutes to get us in and the others out. I highly recommend the Tree House Iyengar Yoga studio Gentle Class because the yoga teachers have gone through, and continue with extensive yoga teacher training. The teachers are tested to become qualified as an Iyengar Teacher at various levels. I appreciate the clear yoga instruction I get. I deal with and get relief from low back issues with the yoga poses in the Gentle Class. The teachers take time to talk with students about what physical issues they are dealing with. The teachers demonstrate safe use of props (such as a chair) to teach students to align their body in beneficial poses within safe limitaions of their current level of health. Medium sized classes allows a teacher to be able to give attention and feedback during class. The teachers encorage communication from students before, during and after each class on how they are doing in the poses. Adjustments are offered and clearly demonstrated. I have been studying at Tree House Iyengar Yoga for 5 years and I was an absolute beginner to yoga when I started. I was a bit apprehensive at first because yoga gets a lot of "bad press" in general and I've known people to get hurt doing yoga. I was immediately impressed with the time the teacher took to ask about past injuries and any current physical issues that I was dealing with in my body. She was also proactive to adapt the poses in consideration of my physical needs. This gave me confidence right at the start to know that I didn't have to have to worry about injuring myself. In the last 5 years I have gained strength and flexibility and increased range of motion in all the poses and have progressed to the level 2 class. My medical doctor said that my body is 20 years younger than my age. Wow! I attribute my vitality and energy to iyengar yoga and recommend Treehouse Iyengar Yoga to everyone. Theresa read more

My two favorite times of the week are my classes at Tree House Iyengar Yoga. My teacher has helped me through some severe physical issues, always with good humor and an optimistic attitude. Frankly, I didn't think I could do yoga at all with my challenges, but believe me, the teachers at Tree House can help you through just about anything. And after each session, I can just feel the healing--just a little bit. :) There are classes for anyone at this studio, no matter what level of physical ability. And what I really love is the attention to the whole self, not just the physical. Yoga philosophy and breathing is just as important as the poses at Tree House. Many do go just for the exercise and that's fine, but Tree House offers so much more. I would recommend Tree House Iyengar Yoga to anyone who is considering whether yoga might be helpful to them. read more

I've been taking classes at Tree House Iyengar Yoga since 2002 and absolutely love it. The teachers are certified Iyengar instructors, so they are skilled, experienced, and well-versed in accommodating injuries and physical limitations. But more than that, they are supportive, friendly people who encourage you to push your limits just a little bit at every class. The community they have created around the studio is really wonderful, too; in addition to studio potlucks and other get-togethers, they host frequent workshops with senior teachers. Tree House has been my yoga "home" for about 6 years. I've taken classes with many different instructors, all excellent. My health has improved by leaps and bounds since I've been practicing there. The school is quite generous in offering a free week of classes each quarter fall, winter, and spring! We welcome newcomers, and most classes are a mix of loyal longtimers and new people who tried it and liked it. Tree House Iyengar Yoga is a wonderful community with potlucks, special events, amazing visiting instructor workshops, and everything one could want in a yoga school. read more

I attended classes there for several years and only stopped because of schedule conflicts. I'm pretty new to the yoga environment but I am so thankful my sis-in-law chose Pat's studio. This style of yoga is amazing for me. I can feel the difference in movement after each class. Treehouse Yoga is my favorite yoga studio in the Seattle area. I have a movement-limiting condition, take a gentle yoga class once a week at Treehouse, and just generally need the extra attention. The reason taking a yoga class still works is that the teachers are knowledgeable and careful, something you won't find everywhere. I highly recommend this studio. read more

Years ago I was in bike-ped accident that caused muscle damage throughout lower abdomen area. After almost 2 years of PT I plateaued and discovered the sciatica nerve. I dropped in to my neighborhood yoga studio and after 2 years of gentle yoga classes with Pat, was pain free and felt like I was 20 again. read more
