While the actual work they performed was done well, the business side of the experience was very disappointing and stressful. If you are planning to use this company for an insurance claim, make sure you fully understand the payment expectations upfront and have cash available before agreeing to any work. In my case, I never received a clear price before the work was completed. After the fact, I was presented with an invoice totaling over $12,000. I later had another company provide a quote for the same work, and their estimate was only $5,200 -- a huge difference. The most frustrating part has been the payment process with insurance. My insurance company sent payment directly to R&A Tree Service, but the amount was about $500 less than the invoice they submitted. Instead of working cooperatively through the insurance process, they immediately began discussing liens, interest charges, and additional pressure tactics while still requesting breakdowns and documentation from the insurance company. "I need this resolved immediately so we can avoid further escalation, additional costs, and continued lien enforcement proceedings." Again, the workmanship itself was good, but I strongly recommend getting 2-3 bids before signing anything and making sure pricing is agreed to in writing beforehand. If your project involves an insurance claim, proceed carefully and make sure you understand exactly how payment timing and billing disputes will be handled.

It is disappointing to have to give a less than stellar review, because Cloudy Sky did some…read moreimpressive work on the first job I hired them for. Unfortunately the second job went much worse. Cloudy Sky would not stand by their work, which left me scrambling at the last minute to hire another crew to finish the job. The first job was to cut down a 50' Aspen tree in a relatively confined space. Cloudy Sky's bid was very competitive compared to the other bids, so I went with them. Cloudy Sky did a great job felling a tall tree into a very limited space, and they also did not destroy the lawn, which the other companies warned me they likely would. I do wish they had warned me that Aspens respond to being cut down by sending out underground roots in every direction and sprouting up tens of little suckers in my and my neighbors' yards. There are ways of avoiding this problem, but I didn't know about any of this until it was too late. But I can forgive this oversight, as Aspens are not native to this area and many people don't know about this problem. Based on this good experience, I hired Cloudy Sky to grind the Aspen stump as well as another massive Cedar stump. This job went sideways from the start. A Cloudy Sky estimator failed to give me the information I needed to prepare the area around the stumps, so when the crew arrived they couldn't do the job, which was really disruptive as I was having to coordinate with my neighbor to cross their property. After I prepared the area, and we rescheduled to have the crew come back, they did grind the stumps. But when I shoveled the wood chips out of the area, I discovered that in some places it was not as deep as the 6-8" below grade promised on the contract. In a few places, the stump was basically still at grade (see attached photo). I don't fault the crew for this, as there were a *lot* of wood chips that obscured the ground and made it easy to miss spots like this. But I am very unhappy that even when I sent them this photo, they wouldn't come back to fix the job. Worse, for several weeks they led me to believe that they *were* open to fixing it, so when I finally realized they weren't going to come back (they never explicitly said this, they just sort of ghosted me), I had to scramble to hire somebody else at the last minute before my landscaping crew arrived later that week. Unfortunately, this experience led me to conclude that Cloudy Sky will not stand by their work.

This one was by far my favorite and I was pleasantly surprised at how competitive their bid was considering the high quality, detailed evaluation Chris did for the estimate. His staff he brought to the site was friendly, fast, professional and experienced. We had an issue pop up and they were on it quickly, helping to troubleshot and find a solution fast. We got on the schedule quickly. We had a few trees removed, others trimmed and thinned out, and other trees in our orchard substantially pruned for health and vitality. The work was done very well, and the cleanup was complete and better than we had expected. We are very satisfied and will be using them again in the future.

I hired Michael for some clearance trimming of a large cypress tree by my townhome. He came by for…read morean inspection and had plenty of knowledge to impart on the tree species and condition. The trimming work was done quickly and efficiently. They deftly lowered large limbs on ropes to avoid any damage to the fence or nearby structures. Michael has a very informal style, operating more on a handshake agreement and cash/check payment than the formal agreements and invoices you'd get with other firms. I was happy with the work and price they charged, but if you want a very polished, by-the-book service experience you might not jive with his style.

His quote was very reasonable to I agreed to the price. He came the very next day to perform the work which included topping off 2' and removing all branches that were touching or close to the side of the house and roof. He was on time, did everything I asked him, and cleaned everything up. I'll be using him again for the removal of a tree, and the pruning of a few others.

The crew was hard-working, professional, and extremely thorough. The job was challenging because the trees were located right next to my house, fence, and greenhouse, but they handled it expertly, even using a crane to lift the trees safely over the house. Cleanup was excellent--you wouldn't know major tree work had just taken place. On top of that, one of my neighbors had a large pile of limbs from a previous storm, and the crew chipped it up for him at no charge, which was incredibly generous. I will definitely use Lefler Tree Service again and highly recommend them to anyone needing tree work done right.
