After getting estimates from a few other tree companies I decided to go with my colleague's referral. Chris and his team executed a complicated tree removal in my sloped back yard. They removed the tree with precision and showed a great deal of care in safeguarding our home and the surrounding gardens. There was no damage to the other plants which was no easy job as I really love plants and have a lot of them! After a detailed cleanup Chris and his Tree Mechanics left my garden looking cleaner than before they'd arrived. I was so pleased with the T.M's service, I've had them replant several more trees (chosen to better suit my landscape in both species and size) as well as do some much needed tree pruning around the property. He also noticed an aphid problem and treated it (without using sprays!), all at a reasonable price. We sent out requests for estimates via Yelp on Sunday; he stopped by Monday to size up the job; on Wednesday the tree was out--all at a price lower than others we had been quoted. Firstly, I had Chris, the owner and experienced tree surgeon, come to my home to see the 5 trees that desperately needed pruning. As a PhD scientist myself, I wanted more information on the process, and Chris provided a tour de force seminar on every aspect of the pruning process, and the science behind each of the 5 trees. This really sold me on Tree Mechanics and Chris's abilities. When Chris came to do the pruning, he was accompanied by two very experienced collaborators, and they systematically pruned each tree, which provided, like an artist, a beautiful rendition of shape and esthetics, for each tree. I can't recommend Chris and Tree Mechanics enough. We asked him to prune our 200' tall trees in our backyard, and we asked him to do some creative pruning so that we could see the bridge from our second floor. He had a competitive quote, arrived on time, communicated well and trimmed our trees with the upmost care. He spent a significant amount of time pruning to allow for a view, while also taking into account the health of these very old trees. I noticed on Sunday afternoon that my big tree was leaning towards my house. Not wanting to completely cut the beautiful tree down, I searched for an arborist on yelp and Tree Mechanics caught my eyes. Not knowing whether they'll call me back, I called and left a message. I was fully expecting a call back on Monday. However, few house later, I got a call from Chris. We made an appt for him to come out to take a look, got the estimate, then, Chris and his crew came out to "trim" the tree the best they could to save the tree from cutting it down. They didn't just cut the tree in 1 shot. They cut, assess it, cut some more and so on. During the tree trimming, I noticed there were lot of little pieces of the tree that ended up on the ground - in between the river rocks.. I was hopeful they'll clean it up but didn't want to have a high hope that they'll get everything. When I got home, to my surprise, they did a pretty good job in cleaning it up - beyond my expectation. They also did a fantastic job in trimming and cleaning the dead branches of my camellia tree but look crooked. When I texted him, he said he'd be glad to come back and fix it. I don't expect anyone to do everything to my expectation, especially when I wasn't there. What I was happy about is that Chris is working with me until I am happy. I really appreciate that. His price? Let's just say it came in at lower then what I was expecting. Then again, I don't know if his price was good but I went w him instead of price shopping because he gave me the confidence that this guy knew what he was doing. read more

These folks are the best. They gave a reasonable estimate and they stuck to their price, even though the job might have been more complex than they had originally seen. They pruned a tree that had been unpruned for 20 years. They left the ground spotless, no trace of their work. They took the chopped wood to their wood chipper out front and dissolved the logs into tiny pieces. They were pleasant to work with, businesslike and did great business for our yard. read more

I would give Tree Mechanics 10 stars if I could. We had to have 6 trees removed and redwood stumps ground out. Chris came twice: first to give us a detailed quote (not just a one line figure), and again, to make sure his hydraulic grinder to make it through to our backyard. Chris was super nice and knowledgeable - showed up to provide me a quote for trimming down a big Japanese maple tree and a couple of smaller fruit trees in my back yard. I really liked how Chris called me to let me know he was running late, researched and identified the species of fruit tree immediately following our consultation appointment, and arranged street signs to block off parking for his equipments the night before the day of service.
