My mom and I were up for the weekend and we were intrigued by some pictures found online, so we decided to add a stop to our agenda. When we arrived, there were a few cars there, so we parked near them and a door that we assumed was the entrance. When we entered we were overwhelmed by the amount of products, followed by the amount of space that was dedicated to crafting. I wouldn't think that so much stuff could fit so neatly into one person's home. The first few aisles are lined with charms for necklaces, bracelets and other needs for crafting projects. There were rows of beads, gems, and other fun goodies. I found a bunch of wreath making supplies, a room of flowers and a room of ribbon...and some Christmas items. The owner is a super nice person and I can only assume that she was "the" Claudette, since I never did ask her name. My mother and I were just so excited speaking with her and checking out the craft samples that she and her family had made. This place is for the true crafter. One who isn't afraid to spend their time looking through thousands of items just to find that perfect piece. Though I'm sure if you ask, you will be told right where you will find what you're looking for. I did not see any scrapbook or junk journal type materials. Because the business is in the lower portion of a home, I would assume it is due to climate control. Did I mention that the prices are quite reasonable? I left with a full bag of so many fun things that I just can't wait to dive into. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday, so be sure to plan accordingly. For him, it's five stars. For me, the couple of times I've been to pick up/look for something... the employees have been so, so incredibly rude. Clearly, I don't give off an artsy vibe, and they know it. One particular time that haunts me: I asked about something specific and I used an alternative term for it (but still a correct term; I had to do a quick internet search after I left to see if I really had misspoken - I hadn't) and all four employees behind the counter just stared blankly at me. I repeated my question, explaining what I needed with context so they could visualize what I was talking about, and was met with "never heard of it", "that doesn't exist", "we don't carry anything like that". I eventually found what I was looking for on my own, and when I cashed out I was met with snickers and eyerolls. "Ohhhhhhh, you meant [other term]." I felt so ridiculed and awkward and unwelcome. For me, it's a one star.

(It's close to the I-95 exit, not in downtown Biddeford.) The store's selection of fine art supplies is superb. The staff are tremendously helpful. (Yes, the store can be a little understaffed at times, but if you ask for help at the front register, someone will help you immediately. And they'll go FAR out of their way to help you find exactly what you need, answer questions, share honest opinions, and so on.) While we're staying around York (Maine), we choose the Biddeford store every time. (When we don't, we regret it.) Michael's has become one of the few remaining chain stores carrying a wide range of arts and crafts supplies, including fabrics. That's frustrating, since each store can stock a limited range of products within each niche. However, if you're around southeast Maine - or even in coastal NH - the Biddeford store is the place to shop, especially for fine art supplies. The range of them is impressive, and their sale prices (frequently offered) are unbeatable. Definitely recommended!

Today was such a mission, as I was looking for "chalk board" contact paper. I spent a short and I mean short time looking up and down the aisles and finally decided, I was out of my league, and searched for an associate to help me. I found one and she dropped what she was working on and let me on, what I thought was a scavenger hunt. She knew exactly where to go and I followed like a lost puppy and In a short time we arrived in the correct location. They were out and she suggested I order online. Now, my visit could have simply ended there, however sensing my disappointment, she suggested an alternative. Perhaps they have something that I could use in the Cricut aisle and off we went again. She immediately identified the Cricut "chalk board" vinyl and I was delighted. You know the saying, "A happy wife, a happy life." With this in mind, why only four stars you ask? Well, their regular prices are a bit on the high end, unless you catch a sale or are lucky enough to have a coupon. For customer service I am giving Michael's lots of kudos, so the next time you find yourself at Michael's, don't hesitate to ask for help. Enjoy!

I came here at the recommendation of the good folks at Handiwork in Deering Center. I had gone to a…read morefew places in search of some felting help and Handiwork suggested Portfiber. I immediately booked it over as I needed a very specific consultation -- felting with my doggo's fur. I had my samples and the needle I was using and although they didn't have experience with dog fur they immediately diagnosed the problem with my needle not being a true felting needle. I was able to test out their tools and was on my way to felting success. I came back for a few additional supplies and was overjoyed with the results. Their big giant of a sweet dog who runs the shop is also a plus for visiting.

I go to this Paper Store often for various things; cards, candles, games, and gifts. (I mean it's right next to a Hannaford... how can I resist every time I get my groceries!) They really do have a little bit of everything. But really it is the staff that makes this store get an enthusiastic 5 stars. Everyone is always SO friendly and helpful (but not in a pushy way). If you want to strike up a conversation, they will talk to you, but you won't be dogged by people trying to sell you everything in the store. I also love that they have a relatively large amount of staff for the store's size. On any given day, I usually see someone stocking, a cashier, a greeter, and another person or two floating around to help where needed. This means that I never have waited on line for more than 5 minutes (even on weekends) and when I've needed help, I never had to search fruitlessly for a free employee. The store is alway clean and the merchandise neatly arranged. Keep up the good work everyone!
