I love the variety of toys! My nephew loves his Mortimer the moose

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! I love toy stores and this one is at the top of the list for me. We have a lot of nieces and nephews (and also, I'm a big kid). This place is the place to go for silly toys, retro toys, learning toys and just fun toys/games...everything!!! The place is conveniently located on Exchange St. in the Old Port if you are out wandering around. The downside is if you want to just drive in for this toy store, parking and crowds do not make it a quick trip. We have purchased, books, baby toys and a snoopy's harmonica (for me!) The staff - friendly and helpful. If you are looking for fun/unique toys and not buy from the "big box" stores, please see this place. I highly recommend it.

Since the passing of Toys R' Us, it is not easy to find a toy shop these days, which is why I am so glad there are independent shops like Treehouse still out there. This store was so adorable! Set-up for the holidays, the display window featured a toy train and a stuffed animal sleigh led by avocado Santa. Inside, the displays are fully stocked with plush, games and toys for all ages. They had high-end Steiff plush and lower end Squishimals and stocking stuffers. You could easily spend $200 in this store or get a few, little things for under $20. Every time I turned a corner, I saw another cute little toy. As a parent, it was impossible to leave this store without buying something. Will definitely be back.

Nice ambiance. Looked clean and well kept. Window display was nice. Hard to keep 6 feet apart in narrow aisles with COVID, at one point a sales girl walked right up to where I was looking at a item with my daughter and stood right next to us (she was starting to do some re- stocking, I believe) which was definitely within 6 feet. Within 2 feet. We left right after. Not taking any chances. Wish the sales girl would have been more aware/considerate. Wish we could have looked around a little bit more, but that didn't happen. Maybe that was intentional? They did have a sign posted that advised against "dilly dallying." We were only in there a few (less than five minutes.) We ended up not buying anything, but we had wanted to get a trinket for my little girl. I feel bad because usually we love to support small businesses. Sorry we didn't have a better experience. Since we're just visiting from another state we won't be coming back.

Awesome toy store right in the shopping district of Portland. They have so much to choose from. We stopped in to grab a few goodies for our kids. Lots of Legos, action figure, book, and stuffed animals. It really brings out the inner kid in you walking around with all the glitz and glam and bright colors. Fun place, live your kids well and bring them here!

I love this toy store! It's a perfect example of a locally-owned, small-city toy store. Staff are very friendly and helpful, always engaging in conversation and well-versed in their stock. They carry a great selection of toys for all ages, from infants to toddlers and on up to older kids. Treehouse has some of the big brands you can find at other stores, but also carries a great selection of lesser-known, local and not-quite-so commercial toys. Their prices are a little steep - but not more than I'd expect when shopping locally. I love spending a few extra dollars knowing my money will stay in Portland, support locals and keep our downtown full of adorable shops like this! They also have a really fun selection of books, also for all ages. They highlight Maine authors, and have a fun little reading nook. Great for parents to sit and get a little food in our baby while also reading! They have a bathroom for customers with a changing table too. If you are looking for big-ticket toys or for the newest, hottest toy on the market, you probably won't find it here. But you will find so many fun treasures! I would spend lots of time in this store even before I was a mom. Keep it local and fun!

With two young children, I've been to A LOT of toy stores and routinely seek out local shops over big box stores.

It is typically one of my go to places to shop. However I do not think I'll be shopping here much longer. I had stopped by to grab a gift the other day and was helped by an older woman I did not recognize. Like I mentioned previously, the staff here is always very friendly and helpful. This woman was not. A minute into asking for her assistance I was disappointed to discover she was down right bossy and pushy, I could tell she was only focused on making the sale and not actually helping me. And when I tried to wave off the help and shop for myself, she lingered and closely watched me shop while chatting my ear off about her children. I'm a mother, god knows I talk about my kids any chance I get-but this just felt excessive and almost manipulative. Eventually the other younger lady happened to pop into the back room and was swift in saving me from the uncomfortable situation. She was very helpful and actually listened to me. On my way out I had also asked her about the lady I had encountered previously and learned that she apparently is the new manager. Needless to say, if that is how this store is going to be run from now on I feel bad for both the staff and customers. I don't think I will be shopping here for much longer. Such a shame since everything is so lovely.

Despite coming to Portland for many years, this spot never caught our eye. My wife is a big fan of stuffies and animal related items in general. I will say that in my opinion the prices here do seem high, but it does appear to be more of custom/smaller created items. I could be incorrect though as I noticed other reviews mention finding similar items cheaper. We did find a perfect gift of a stitched elephant for our niece that we know she will love. The high prices and lack of much enthusiasm and greeting from the workers is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Might be more of a spot to browse than actually purchase from but nonetheless check it out.

I tried to register online and ran into issues; when I went back in, it felt like more of a hassle for Mr. Beanie-Glasses-¿Chin-Strap-Beard? (hard to really remember). This kind of dismissive behavior isn't uncommon in comic book shops. Having been a regular reader for years, I can confidently say there's a certain hipster element embedded in comic culture that lacks the self-awareness that the "better-than-you" attitude is a dime a dozen. I place my weekly pulls with Casablanca Comics, where the staff are not only enjoyable to talk with, but actually remember your name and want to help. This shouldn't discount the efforts of the other, surely more personable employees--nor at least a visit or two to check out their selection--but it definitely detracts from any kind of regular patronage.

Before this store became BAM it was Borders, I have been shoooort I got here forever. My children are pretty much grown now (18 & 20) but this was my go to entertainment spot. They used to have a story hour. They had events several times a month. Themed of course, lego events, Dr Seuss Bday event and of course Harry Potter. Book signings are always fun. Now back to Heidi. She has been the one constant at this location. She knows my children by name. Would always check in on them when we were shopping. My daughter loves her. She over heard my daughter and I talking once around the holidays a few years back and as we were leaving the store she stopped us with a bag for my daughter! She over heard my daughter say she liked a HP scarf. It was in the bag with a happy holiday!
