About a month ago we had several mature pistache, maple and apricot trees shaped and trimmed. These trees had never been properly pruned before, and I was afraid they wouldn't be able to do much with them, but they turned out beautifully. They showed up with a crew of 5 men, and quickly reduced the size and cleaned up the form on all the trees. They cleaned up the mess in my and my neighbors' yards, put all the trimmings through the shredder and left my garden looking better than it did before they came. I began using the services of TreeMasters about three years ago, soon after we bought a house in Terra Linda and began renovation work. One of the first projects was to remove one Liquid Amber tree and prune and shape a large Silver Maple and flowering plum trees. They also ground out several stumps. Their work was generally excellent. There were a couple minor mishaps but their response to these problems more than compensated for the trouble. We worked most closely with Uriel, a certified arborist, and his knowledge, advice and service was really exemplary. Since the initial work three years ago we have called on Uriel and Treemasters to consult and guide us in the management of our trees several times. Every time they have responded promptly and provided us with a thorough and thoughtful plan and estimate. Much of their time and expertise is offered freely at no cost. Last year, I called up Uriel to ask if they had any wood chips and mulch that we could have. Later that day they very neatly deposited several cubic yards of mulch on our driveway at no charge. More recently, I asked TreeMasters if they would set aside some logs for a patio project I have in mind. Not only were they willing to do that for me - again at no charge - but the owner of the company introduced himself to me and spent a good 15 minutes at the end of the day offering his advice on what types of wood would work best for my application. It's not just Uriel but it seems everyone in the company, from the owner on down, possess a genuine spirit of enthusiastic helpfulness. All their employees are knowledgeable and friendly, and most impressively, they all seem to work together as a team. I have a heritage tree that is close to 65 years old and 80 feet tall that needed a major limb removed due to disease that we didn't want spread to the rest of the tree. I needed another tree trimmed and another removed. We set an appointment that turned out to be one of the windiest storm days so far this year, so I waved them off - even though they were heading out at 7:30 AM to do the work at my house. The last thing we wanted was guys with chainsaws swinging in gale-force winds - nothing was worth that risk! When they came out last week, the crew was fast, thoughtful about what needed to be done and how best to do it, courteous and did a terrific job of cleaning up all of the debris. I've worked with other Sonoma and Marin tree companies, with mixed results, including one company that did a very good job one year and then the next time caused a great deal of damage that the owner refused to take any responsibility for. I have to say that I thought Treemasters did a great job: responsive, reasonable price, professional and they left everything in very good condition. My husband I had Tad work on our trees once. He cut down trees that we did not authorize him to cut, and over pruned others. He charged for work we did not authorize and then went after us for payment. We settled up since he was intimidating us and it wasn't worth the $1000. read more

Treemasters were courteous, fast and professional in giving us a bid. The bid came in at $13,500 to remove a large fallen tree and a smaller standing tree in a difficult location. They could not schedule it for about 2 weeks due to other work. (There'd been a big windstorm.) We used Clements. Their bid was about $6,500 for the same job, they did a good job, and they were available to begin within a day. The limited number of stars is not a reflection of the quality of Treemasters work, since I have no experience with it. I's a reflection of the price -- more than twice the other tree service. After I got the second bid, I even wondered if possibly it had been a typo. I'd suggest following the old 3 bid rule when it comes to tree work. read more

Excellent experience with Treemasters. I will definitely hire them again. Very professional from start to finish. A sustainable landscape architect recommended Tad as good with oaks. I bought a large property covered in valley oaks, live oaks, bays, pine, eucalyptus, and redwoods. The whole lot needed a good pruning for aesthetics, tree health, and fire safety. Tad worked with me on scoping 12 huge trees, and made sure to schedule when his large job foreman could be there to supervise. I am the kind of person who needs to see things to make final decisions, so we left the contract a little open to make additional cuts in real time. The crew was excellent and very responsive to feedback from me and my neighbor. Really outstanding customer interface. As we cleared the dead wood and opened up the view, we had a good dialogue about balancing tree health (not taking off too much) with further enhancing the views. My property looks like a whole new yard now, and my views and trees are gorgeous. I also feel more safe getting the dead wood out after all the CA fires last year. I liked it so much, that they will come back next year to work on some more. I am not familiar with large tree pruning, so the price was initially surprising. But when I saw how many guys it took to climb up into the trees and get it right, I believe it is worth it. Good tree trimming makes a huge difference in a property, so I'm now viewing this as part of my long-term investment in the home. More than anyone expects these days. Prompt - 8am they were here. 4 gentlemen with 'out of the laundry' clean shirts and jeans, a truck that was very clean and painted, pleasant greeting. Carlos, the job boss introduces himself to me, very pleasant, crew is pleasant. Good start. I'm impressed. Shortly a very large truck comes backing up on my more than difficult It is one lane, curvy, deer trail street. Not easy. Holding my breath for my neighbors cars and fences, but feeling confident because these guys know what they are doing and work as a team. OBVIOUSLY they've done this many times before. YEAH!!!! Making the final turn to my home, the end of the street, a tough 90 turn with my neighbors cars parked at the corner (it was too late to tell them last night, when I finally remembered I should give them a 'heads up') . No problem. Soon the opns boss that quoted me the job showed up, assured me, picked up the contract, pay me when the job is done, walked through the job with his crew chief, and left. Once again, I'm totally reassured by the professional operations. I should mention they gave me copies of all of their insurance and works. comp with my contract. NICE. REASSURING. They talk to me, give me an outline and setup. Move my car down the road please so they can haul up branches from the 70* hill easier with the assist of the truck wench. No problem. Move my car, they go to work, I have coffee.. Now we have 5 men working quietly, smartly, efficiently and i can chill. Every hour or more, i would walk my dog and check to make sure that we are all on the same page. Anyway, to shorten this, they checked with me on each phase of the job; down the hill, the view, right side of the house, left side of the house,down the hill in the front of the house. Happily adjust as I related what I wanted or expected. All good. All done.. I forgot to mention, the price was a true value as well. Not cheap, but fair. You get what you pay for. As an update, we used Treemasters again -- this time to remove a "dwarf" tree that was planted too close to the house, when we discovered the roots were growing against the foundation. I was pleased to see the same arborist (who was already familiar with the tree), arrive a few days later to evaluate the problem. The quote was very reasonable, and once they determined there were no buried utilities in the way, a crew arrived to do the job. The workers carefully kept the wood chips from flying around while grinding the stump, and the area was blown clean afterwards. Totally professional work, from start to finish. Treemasters are now our new go-to tree service to tend our grove of Monterrey Pines. After our usual tree company, of long standing, cancelled several arborist appoints in a row, we decided to try Treemasters. For our first job with them, we had 3 tall, dying Monterrey pines removed and dead branches pruned from the remainder of our large Monterrey pines, most on a steep slope. It was an all day operation. All of the debris had to be removed through a rather narrow gate on the side of the house. They put up heavy tarps to protect the side of the house, which really impressed me. They did a thorough clean up, leaving everything in order. From the estimate by arborist , Mike, to the work crew ( foreman-ed by Sammy) everyone was prompt, skilled, helpful, patient, thorough and just plain nice. And the remaining trees look the best they have in years. read more

Excellent Service. During the 3/24/11 storm, a large branch fell on my neighbor''s fence and the rest of the tree was swaying in the high winds, threatening to fall on my home. I made a few calls for emergency service to safely take down the tree. One company wanted to charge $500 just to come out to the house. With April's help from the office, Mike from Treemasters arrived within one hour & told be there was no need to worry about the tree landing on my home. I still wanted it gone. It was scarey watching it sway in the wind. What a gentleman. At NO charge, he safely cut/lowered the tree to the ground, took the branch off my neighbor's fence and cleaned their yard. We had Treemastersdo a full-days work for us--removing a large tree, several medium-sized trees, a number of smaller ones and some trimming. They were slightly more expensive than some of the competing bids, but inspired more confidence with their knowledge and experience. The crew did a great job, bringing in extra equipment when it was needed. Our neighbors were impressed with how quickly they worked and the lack of a mess afterwards. Our lot presented lots of challenges and there were two areas of damage afterwards. It took a bit of time to get it all repaired, but part of that was our fault being absent on vacation. David, who planted our new trees and did all the repair work, was meticulous at his work and cared as much about the cosmetic results as the functional ones. David came and did a complete walk through and discussed with me what he thought was essential and those things that could wait so that I could stay within my budget. Treemaster's is the best. We have used other services in the past and none compare to Treemaster's. They have provided tree removal and care services on our property for many years. They have removed serval trees from our property. The most memorable was the very large bay tree that was impinging on our roof and front entry. They brought in the crane and did the job in about 2 hours. Another time we had a tree fall against our house. The precision with which they removed the tree (with the crane) not touching the oak and other trees in the front yard was a work of art. Most importantly when they give you a bid they provide you with a certificate of labially insurance for commercial liability, automobile liability and umbrella liability in addition to workers' comp. All important to protect you for what can be a dangerous job. read more

We had a large limb on a 60+ foot Monterey Pine that split and was caught on the corner of our roof, threatening also our porch roof. After realizing it was nothing I could deal with, I made 2 calls... the 2nd to Treemasters. The first call went to a voice mail. The treemaster call went to a gal who took all the info down and said she would get back. She called back and said someone would be out with 45 minutes. About 5 minutes later Mike showed up, assessed the situation and wrote up an estimate. They apparently had crews in the general area... and 2 hours later a crew showed up, and around 1 1/2 hours later the problem was solved. I believe the quick response to a dangerous situation may well have saved me from serious damage to our home. Mike also recommended we get the tree sprayed insofar as cutting Monterey Pines in late June is a no no... inviting beetle infestations which could kill the tree. A few days later another man showed up and conducted the spraying of the base... ground up to around 8-10 feet. In both cases the work was done without a hitch, and with workers who provided confidence with the results. I really appreciated the quick response to a situation that was indeed an emergency. read more

I've used a lot of different tree services in Marin - most very good - some not so good. We've used Marin Treemasters for the past few years (5+) and couldn't be happier with their service, workmanship, attention to detail, and knowledge. I manage a large property here in Marin and each spring we meet with their Arborist - to walk the property - look for problem trees, unsafe situations, and/or other issues with our trees. Again their knowledge is outstanding. I also appreciate the fact that their equipment is always clean (trucks, saws, hand tools) - considering that they may often have worked on diseased trees - I'm impressed that they think of such things. Treemasters is not the cheapest tree service in Marin - but in my opinion they are certainly one of the best! I have no qualms about recommending them to others - and often do. read more

We had a 100+ foot redwood tree (4 ft in diameter) in our tiny backyard that unfortunately had to be removed because of multiple unstable trunks and being extremely close to not only our house, but also 5 of our neighbors homes, many of whom with small children. This was an enormous job that a few of the arborists were hesitant about or didn't have the crew to take it on. He actually lives in the neighborhood and does a lot of work around the community so I know that he is genuinely concerned about his reputation and the well being our surroundings. I spent a lot more time than planned with our conversation and fetl he genuinely cared that I felt this matter was resolved. Under no pressure from him, I came to the conclusion that I would give them another try with my yard and pruning. Although there were mishaps the first 2 times I used them, the work was top quality work and that was noted in my review--things happen and they took action to make it better so in my book that warrants an improved rating for commitment to a "good neighbor" policy that he and his company clearly tries to abide by. These people are professionals. They employ well-trained, licensed arborists who have credentials in their field and know what they are doing. They care about trees and the environment. The people who did the work on our Modesto Ash tree were thorough, meticulous, and left our yard clean with a beautiful tree after they removed the mistletoe parasitic growths and the dead branches. I used this company in May 2012. They are very responsive, and the person who comes to give the estimate is very knowledgeable. Everything is done right except the trimming of trees. On one tree they trimmed all the branches off the right side. And I do mean ALL. On another tree a 9 inch diameter 15 foot limb broke off 2 weeks after they trimmed it. They sent out a knowledgeable guy to check it out who was honest enough to say that on the first tree, live branches were removed and on the second tree load bearing branches were removed without reducing the weight on the remaining branch. It sounded good so I had them come back to remove the broken branch and excess weight. Instead of thinning the tree, they hacked off all the major branches on the tree and reduced it to almost nothing. Bottom line is they either didn't train their foreman, or the foreman needs to be replaced with someone who can do a much better job. read more

I had a HUGE Monterey Pine in my backyard. When the recent wind and rain storm was predicted, I called five tree companies to give me a consultation and quote for removal of my tree and stump grinding. Of all the companies, I was most impressed with Tree Masters. Mike Q. gave knowledgeable, very thorough advice, including some no other companies provided: "The tree is dying. That's why it is producing so many pinecones. It wants to ensure its propagation." This greatly relieved my angst regarding my decision to have my dearly beloved tree removed. Mike quickly gathered all pertinent information: took photos of the tree, street cleaning sign, said the company would take responsibility for calling 811 to report and get clearance for underground work. All this was included in a report created on the spot with his mobile computer and printer. He handed me the quote (which was significantly lower than a similar highly reputable company) with copies of their licensure, liability and workmen's comp insurance and photos of the tree. He said they carry higher insurance than any other tree company. I greatly appreciated having all this information provided to me in such a fast, efficient manner. I signed on the spot. Because of the storm and holiday period, the specific date for the removal was yet to be scheduled. Mother Nature brought down the tree two days later on Christmas Eve. I was out of town. The tree was still unstable and dangerous when my neighbor called me. Mike was willing to provide me with expert advice by text several times over the next couple of days (Christmas Eve and Day) as I communicated what I was able to learn about the situation over the phone. I cannot overstate how grateful I was of his support and assistance when he was on vacation. The tree ended up being removed by another tree company contracted by neighbor's insurance company which was legally responsible for damage to my neighbor's property so I did not get to see Tree Masters work. But based on the initial consultation, contract process and professional support during a vacation period following a storm that put tree experts in high demand, I have no doubt they would do a superb job. When a 60-ft acacia tree right next to our front porch cracked at the base during a storm packing 50 mph winds, we were convinced that the tree was going to come down on our house in San Rafael, the cars parked next door, or the fence and power lines out front. But Tad Jacobs had the Treemasters bucket truck to our place in an hour, and the tree safely removed within 3 hours, doing the work himself (and with David) while the winds continued to blow and rain came down. And this was the Sunday before Christmas 2012, during a storm that was causing similar havoc throughout the city and county. Tad was professional and efficient, and turned what could have been a very expensive, dangerous, and lengthy repair job into a "glad we escaped relatively unscathed" story.
