I don't know much about the world of coffee, except that I like how it tastes when I buy it from Trees. I have yet to try the Cheesecake. I'm terrified that I will fall in love with it, become addicted and grow out of all my pants. I have, however, tried the cheese scone. They must bake everything in the mornings, because there was no way that scone could have been any fresher. My only complaint would be that it wasn't cheesy enough. But really, is there ever enough cheese? They keep trays of baked goods out close enough to the cash desk that you can't help but notice how GIGANTIC they all are when you're paying. I want to steal their muffin trays and have a fatty picnic. Oh, yeah, and they make a damn good mocha! read more

Really bad coffee, I order a cappuccino, it was dull, lacked texture, and had a burnt taste. The only positive their "Trees" size serving in huge. The cheesecake are somewhat on the expensive side, I had a "Sin cheesecake" which was pretty average considering this place was voted Vancouver best cheesecake. It was different and had a spongy cake-like base layer instead of a biscuity base, and was kind of soggy. Clean and lot of sitting space. Free Wi-Fi. I'm almost thankful that Trees is too far for me to frequent often, because I would be quite poor. They make a pretty damn good vanilla latte as I find that it's not overly sweet. They have a stamp card, with a free drink after 10 specialty coffees. I wouldn't say they have the best cheesecake in the city, but it's pretty good. I've only tried the NY Cheesecake, and the one at Trees has a more lemony flavour than I'm used to tasting. Some of the servers go above-and-beyond normal coffee shop service: one server helped my group of 4 find a table even though it was fairly busy at the time. Trees was like a coffeehouse dream come true. It was pouring rain, but this place was warm and inviting, with plenty of open tables. My cheap ($4) breakfast calzone came with a super yummy side salad with nuts. My hot chocolate was to die for and cured my winter blues (that night). The cookie was large; it wasn't that great but the size made up for it (also just that night). Free samples of cheesecake were passed around. The service was excellent, so friendly and on point. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I would definitely come back again and again, except... ... what is that smell? Something is burning. Nevermind, it will go away. 15 minutes later... what is that smell? That definitely smells like burning popcorn. Or burning coffee beans. Either way it's tackling my senses and smelling up my clothes and hair like all the times I've ever gone to Korean BBQ. But this is worse because it does not smell sweet. Anyway. This thought process happened about two more times and I was just distracted, confused, and so unhappy. So I'm not sure if Trees just happened to be burning coffee beans all night just that one time (every 15 minutes) or if it happens every day. Either way, I'm not going to find out. I spent a good hour there and I won't be spending another. I smelled like burnt popcorn all the way home. Many travellers work at this cafe, from Australia, Germany, Mexico, and leave before too long, usually. It's family-run and they have catering services for lunches, usually with their sandwhiches and coffees. The cheesecakes are all beautiful, but eat slowly... your slice will disappear fast! A slice is 6$, a whole cake 70$. My favourite is chocolate or raspberry. I personally hate the sandwhiches! Mochas, my drink of choice, is $4 for a med. Organic coffee is roasted in house.They have big paninis here, but I just can't stand them, too much dryish bread. As a side note I've hated every panini I've ever had with a most furious passion (i.e. Brioche) Don't let the train construction push you away! read more

Not for the quality of the great cheesecake, not for the freshness of their delicious sandwiches... exclusively for the snarkiness, not to say rudeness of the staff I downgrade this place to three stars. Never once have I been served here in a friendly way, heck any Starbucks in town has more cheerful staff than this Tree's location. I love their products but I HATE their attitute and will visit the Yaletown location from now on to see if it is better there. My friend took me here because apparently Trees Organic Coffee is one of the best dessert places for cheesecake. We shared an original cheesecake which tasted alright, but it wasn't noticeably tastier or different from other places. I personally liked the cheesecake from Cheesecake etc. Good location in the heart of gastown but $7 for a slice can be a bit pricey. read more

Keep your eyes peeled for Santa sitting outside the Tree's on Granville. No word of a lie, he's there nearly every afternoon rain or shine (except for Christmas I imagine, but I wasn't there the night of the 24th) Tree's is great. I haven't yet tried their cheesecake but their ginger cookies are amaaazing. They've got pretty good apple cider too, and chai. Tree's doesn't feel like I big ol' scary chain of a place and I like that about it. There isn't much to be said really - it's not that special, but it's always busy, warm and inviting and isn't that what a coffee shop is supposed to be like? read more

The cheesecake is made with hydrogenated soybean oil, not actual cream. Tree's used to use cream, but over time they've substituted it more and more with this oil based filler. I agree with a previous reviewer. It tastes like those you can get from the supermarket. You can tell by a lack of flavour. Cheesecake "richness" comes from actual cream cheese. To make matters worse, I spent $30 here in one sitting and the guy at the counter had an unmatched impatient arrogance. I asked for three slices and two coffees. As he served the first one, I said "Oh sorry, can I get the New York slice to go and the other two for here?" He didn't say anything in response, he just rolled his eyes, Made sure I saw his annoyance and turned away. So much for customer service. The only reason I give this place more than two stars is because their coffee is high calibre. For my past two birthdays, my lovely boyfriend has gotten me a whole (yes, a whole) cheesecake from Trees Organic Coffee. Last year it was mocha-something (mmm), and this year is was the sour cherry/Belgian chocolate. I like my cheesecakes. And the ones from here? So. Damn. Good. So get this..... one of our co-workers was getting married and I decided to go pick up a cheesecake at trees to celebrate because she loves cheesecake and she's never tried this.... being "the best cheesecake" in town, I happily strolled in to the options that they had in the back counter. I knew they were expensive... but not THIS expensive. The 10" standard is $42... but their speciality one - the sin, which consisted of belgian chocolate with sour cherries was maxed at $52...... that's EXPENSIVE. Took me a while to decide but ultimately it was a celebration so why not right? and if it's going to be that expensive.. I can only imagine how good it would taste. Good thing I was early during the day.. there were still bakers in the kitchen who could write on the cake.... So i tell the gentleman at the counter that I was getting the sin cheesecake and he punches it in at $42.... I'm not going to complain right - it's not my fault and it's still a lot of money.... another guy noticed the mistake (drats!).. and as he was changing the price to charge me accordingly... all i can hear out of his mouth was: "52 dollars? Really? Are you serious?" "wow... that is sooooooo expensive.. I can't believe it costs that much money" "that one is already 42.. but this is even more expensive"... you know.. something along those lines which makes me think: "oh crap.. it's so expensive.. should I be getting this? really.. should I get this.. it's is $52 ......... ugh.. maybe I should think this over" It was so uncomfortable.. I wanted to back out... his words seemed like he was trying to sway me into NOT getting the cheesecake. My guess is the manager heard him because she was giving him a pep talk afterwards......... As a rule, I like anywhere that gives me a 20oz mug of "for here" coffee - Trees seems to be like a Canadian version of The Coffee Bean - in short, yes, a chain, but certainly less prominent than the ubiquitous Bucks (and perhaps a touch more "serious" abt coffee than my darling SB) - happened upon here on our walk to rent bikes - was initially put off that it was a coffee shop that was like "yoooo, we have the best cheesecake in the city" - but judging by the number of Vancouverites who were digging into thick slices of creamy goodness before 10a, I'd say the claim is fair. Standard menu of coffee options - at $2.5ish for a massive mug, it's totally reasonable - and tasty - as well as lattes, cappuccinos, teas, etc. Oh, they offer more actual pastries/lunch time sandos, etc - so not just for an AM adventure. Space is good for sitting and chatting for a bit, but I don't know that I'd conduct a meeting here/plan on lounging for hours. Oh, I think it's all fair trade and organic too, so if you're fussy abt that, it's a solid option. And they have live music sometimes. Yeah. It's kind of weird I guess, now that I write it all out, but somehow it works. Not a place to which I'd make a special trip, but a pleasant surprise. read more

Why is this the best cheesecake in town? Meh. I've experienced MUCH better. Plus, it's like $8 a slice! I came to Trees after exploring downtown Vancouver a bit and saw the umbrellas outside claiming to have the best cheesecake in Vancouver. Curious, I went in to try. I ordered the sinful cheesecake, which is an Oreo crust, New York style-filling and swirls of cherries throughout. Sounds good, right? Execution was so flawed. The cheesecake was stale (which I didn't know could happen), and there was a thick film around it that made it practically inedible. The crust just fell apart. Surely there is better cheesecake in Vancouver. read more

Tree Organic Coffee shop is located on Granville St., one of the busiest street Downtown. I went to this Cafe with my boyfriend on his birthday. The cafe is very small and there are not many cake selections. There are not many seats inside, so you'd better to order food to go. We have to the dessert and then bring it to go. We've ordered $8 Chocoholic Cheesecake to share. The cheesecake was so soft. I am preferred to eat the bottom part more. It tasted fresh and sweet, but not much like Chocolate flavour. read more

I stumbled upon this location, and for a change I didn't check its reviews on Yelp before trying it out. I think it turned out for the better. Now let's talk specifics. Cheesecake. Insanely creamy yet texturally it's not dense but deceivingly filling. It's debatable if they have "the best cheesecake in Vancouver", but it's definitely different from what I'm used to, in an acceptable way. We got many different ones, and they were all good. The service we received was outstanding. The guy who greeted us - I forget his name - was fantastic. He gave us a rundown of our options, and was really proactive and friendly. Their front counter fridge blew out today but they kept the line moving. Overall, a very synergetic team. Now the star of the show is the coffee. I'm a sucker for any local coffee chain that serves freshly roasted organic coffee from Peru, Guatemala, Colombia, Costa Rica just to name a few. The working roasting machine commands the back end of the shop. Why isn't it awesome that your coffee's roasted right there in the shop! My cup of Peruvian drip coffee tasted so right it took me back to my favorite coffee shops in Latin America. Go Trees Organic Coffee, you're doing something right. read more

They prepped my meal next to container of dirty water used for the cloth for wiping down tables, and they they rang out the cloth next to my food. I thought "I wonder how many people get dirty water sprinkles on their sandwiches." It looked to me like my quiche was spared. I wanted it heated up, but it was served kinda lukewarm and cold in the middle. Not great--tasted like it was brought in, not prepped in house, but I'm not sure. "Salad" was some giant slabs of tomato on a little bed of lettuce with A LOT of raisins and a dump of balsamic. Coffee tasted bitter. Could be old beans or it was burn. I took a few bites of the quiche and a sip of the coffee, and abandoned the meal because why bother eating something gross. read more

What can I say I like the coffee here so much I brought some to take home. I have stopped here everyday since I was here to get my daily "fix". I even tried their scones and cheese cake. They say it is the best cheese cake in Vancouver I do not know about that, however I think I have tasted better but this one is up there. Oh the scone was really good. The other day strolling through Vancouver's downtown I found this place, claiming with a noticeable poster "Best Cheesecake in Vancouver". I decided to see if they lived up the claim. A walk-in coffee shop, comfortable atmosphere. Decided to try a basic New York cheesecake (6 CAD) with strawberry sauce (+1 CAD). An ice-cold water served at the other side of the bar (free) accompanied the cheesecake (after paying 7.7 CAD for a slice of cake, HST included, I considered to be a sane decision). The taste of the cheesecake is quite good. Not frozen, of course, with a fluffy consistency and creamy sensation. Not quite as a mousse, but similar. The cookie crumb crust in the bottom was also very soft. The strawberry sauce tasted as expected, if not a little cold. Very nice cheesecake, but not the best I had in my life. I rate it 3 stars because of the price; I could have a hyper delicious full meal in some other places in Vancouver for that. read more

This place is fantastic and definitely better than typical chain coffee joints such as Starbucks, Timmies or even JJ Bean. Their americanos are rich, smooth and delicious. The Sin cheese cake is definitely their top seller but is best shared with a partner in crime - too many calories for Yours Truly to eat one slice guilt free. On weekend evenings they will even have live music and performers here, which is a pleasant surprise for a cozy coffee shop. Their only real downfall is not many tables / seating inside, although the patio is open on nice days. Overall this is a great place to sit down for a nice chat over coffee or just to hang out and get some work / study done. read more

Weird layout of the actual cafe, is not intuitive as to which cash register to go to. Service is slow. Not well-lit or a very warm environment. Next to no vegetarian options and the person working there was not very helpful in directing me to something veg. Even the broccoli cheddar soup was not vegetarian. read more

I've only been here in the morning- so I haven't had the cheesecake. But that's all I ever hear about. People seem to love it. What I can say is that the cafe mocha is good. The espresso blends well with the chocolate to give a rich, but not stomach-ache inducing, sweetness. The staff here is extremely friendly and seem to enjoy working together. They carry on conversations (extending past the weather) with customers, while keeping the drinks coming and line moving. I appreciate that. There's not a ton of seating here- maybe 5 small tables, and a little bar in the window (questionably small stools). Not many plugs, for those who like to campout on the ibook. I'm waiting for the perfect afternoon, where I can sample one of the famous cheesecake flavors! read more

I was here with my bf & roomie a couple nights ago to pick up a cheesecake. We ordered the small cake to take home to enjoy... it was $17.95 before taxes. As we wait for them to pack it up, they ring us through and the total comes to about $22 or something ridiculous. He paid for it but commented on the big price difference. The guy just looked at him and ignored the comment saying it was taxes. Then he disappears for ages. We look behind the counter and see him taking photos of the latte cup he just created. We ask him we are STILL waiting for our cake which he just shrugs off saying it is getting packed. Lucky for him, the lady came out soon after he said that to give us the cake. Well, while we waited, we figured out the total price should only be $20.10 with tax. So we mention that again and we try to let them know that there is something wrong with their til if they are charging the wrong prices. His reply? "Tax is 20% no?" WTF? (even with it being 20%, they would've still overcharged us!) anyway, the point of this is, we were trying to inform them of a possible problem with their computer system and they took it as us blaming them. what is wrong with people these days? very unhappy with the service provided here. end on a happy note: the blueberry cheesecake was so delicious!!!! read more

We walked in and a plate of cheesecake samples was before us. I tried to pretend it wasn't and order a machiatto and walk out. I failed. Granted, I was mildly intoxicated, but it felt like the deliciousness of the cheesecake began at my feet and then travelled up to the top of my head and back down again towards my mouth and stomach. And it was nice and creamy, but missing that vital omph that sets it above any other regular latte. Good view onto the street from there, great for people watching. The best cheesecake in Vancouver? I'll be the judge of that! But, it was 8 AM so it will have to be another time. I grabbed a coffee here on my way to the office and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I also stared at a orange chocolate scone for about 5 minutes while waiting to pay, but I did not cave in. I just ate breakfast- stop being a lard arse Tiffany! This just gives me more reasons to come back. Trees was a nice change to Starbucks or Blendz coffee, which I would have normally grabbed. The 4 stars I'm giving them is all based on the cheesecake itself really. I've been here many times through the past few years. I feel like service wise, it's always different and it depends on if you are sitting in or doing take out. When you do take out, I feel like the staff need some training on packaging take out containers. There has only been once where I didn't have to worry about it falling out the container or anything like that. I always get my new york cheesecake with strawberries on the side. The cake itself is very consistent. It has not once disappointed me which is great. I had other flavours of cheesecake there and i still find the New York one is pretty much my favourite one. I would still continue to come here and recommend others but don't expect too much for the service because I believe they hire international students. Staff changes up all the time. read more

Trees, you slay me! I'm always hopeful that the tables will magically be cleared and wiped down, but no, there are no cleaning fairies here. Or, apparently, any staff who clean up. Ordered up the Key Lime cheesecake; it was okay, a bit too "brilliant" , but a lovely texture and the dollop of whipped topping took the sharpness away. A nice drip coffee went well with this afternoon snack. I needed a mid-afternoon break during a frenzied shopping expedition. I felt restored enough to continue on with the accumulation of consumer goods. Oh, I just figured out the older gent sitting sphinx-like at the entrance...he's the bus boy on a rest break! I am in here about twice daily; I really enjoy their food, coffee, prices and atmospheres, so much so that if it was an option I would consider franchising one. The only criticism I have is that their staff can be a little inconstant. There are three "old timers" that have been their forever and are amazing; most of the time I can walk in and my drink will be ready before I order. However, on occasions when their steadfast employees are not around, service tends to be a bit dicey with your chances of receiving what you order only about 50/50. With that said, I still return because 90% of the time the service is wonderful and it is worth risking the other 10%. read more

I have a love and hate relationship with this place ... I LOVE it for it's great cheesecakes! You can have from fruity (raspberry, blueberry, key lime) to chocolatey (chocoholic!!) or anything in between (chocolate and cherry, maple walnut, mocha), they have it all. I LOVE their drinks. Their coffee is organic fair trade, but they have tea if that's what you're feeling like. They also have live music every Thursday and Friday (8-10pm), which is enjoyable as well (but it can get packed! So you will likely be squeezed in with some other people you might become friends with ... ;-p). Their location is also great, right downtown, walking distance to Waterfront and Granville Station. I work nearby and have 3 options for coffee : Take 5, Artigiano and Trees. I pick Trees if I want to treat myself to a really nice latte. The quality has always been consistent, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte in the Fall really hits the spot. Also, the lunch food is at a great price, considering the quality and amount given (and also in comparison to other cafe's nearby). I love the muffins, they're perfect and never dried out. The cheesecake is so rich and dense, I feel almost overly satisfied after one slice. Overall, a really good cafe and always friendly service. read more

This location is a bit off from the map... It's a block north of what it displays.. We strolled in looking for a place for my husband to work on a Sunday afternoon, when everything is mostly closed. The wifi is FAST, which is a major plus. The coffee smells amazing but I just had tea. A mix of the camomile and lemon, FANTASTIC. So many cheesecakes to choose from. I had the New York and the presentation is nice! Honestly, if it just had the strawberries on top, it would be just as good as the Cheesecake Factory in the states. So i had Sunday off and decided to familiarize myself with the city and so my adventure began. I got off the Waterfront train and cam out on Granville to see Trees Organic Coffee across the street. Since it was raining I though I'd get some chai. The atmosphere is really old school, makes you want to sit here and write a novel, don't expect to be Kafka, although Kafka never had the Jersey Shore for inpiration. The Chai latte and it was good, I don't think it was as sweet as I usually have it, which is a good and a bad thing I guess. I would prefer it a little bit sweeter but overall I liked it. I wish I didn't eat so much at Whole Foods or I would have definitely tried the award winning cheesecake. I'll have to come back so expect an update. read more

They have the most amazing feta and spinach scone in the morning. Fresh out the oven with large chunks of feta, it is one of my guilty pleasures in the morning! They also have a great selection of teas, my favourite is the Jasmine green tea. While they are a bit more pricey than Starbucks or Timmy, the quality is fantastic, and they are organic.
