Had to end the night with a dessert side quest, so I decided to check out Breka Bakery. They had a ton of dessert options, but I went with the strawberry shortcake and the lychee raspberry mousse cake. Both were delicious very soft with great flavor. The display was fully stocked with plenty of choices, so you won't have to worry about things being sold out. Definitely a solid spot for a late-night dessert run. read more

Yum! I stopped by here for a quick pastry break after visiting Stanley Park, and Breka definitely hit the spot. I opted for the passionfruit tart, which was delicious - just the right balance between sweet and tart flavor. The cafe is a pretty decent size given its location, with a variety of bar/table seating. There's also large windows that let in a lot of natural light - great for the warmer months. We only made a quick stop here but service was friendly when ordering. Prices were reasonable as well. Could definitely see this being a great spot to get some studying or work done. read more

Checked out this Breka Bakery after cycling through Stanley Park -- our second Breka of the trip, and it hit the spot again! This seems to be the only Breka on the west side of downtown Vancouver. Since we had just biked and weren't in a pastry mood, we grabbed two drinks to cool off. - Strawberry Banana Smoothie -- surprisingly delicious and super refreshing. Made with real fruit (not syrups, thankfully) and blended into a creamy, strawberry-banana delight. This location still has Breka's signature gleaming display cases packed with fresh bread, pastries, sandwiches, cakes, and more. Service was friendly and fast -- drinks came out in under 5 minutes. There aren't as many seats here compared to other Breka spots, but it was mellow on a Monday afternoon. Now that I'm back home, I'm still thinking about that strawberry banana smoothie. Walked by this place and was craving for some desserts! Saw the selection of desserts and decided to get the earl grey cream puff! The cream puff was covered with earl grey chocolate on top and the earl grey tea flavor was really strong in the cream, which I absolutely loved! I think most Vancouverites are familiar with Breka as perhaps the city's only 24 hour bakery/coffee shop. I think their food, both the baked goods and sandwiches/meals, is delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. The flavours are great, the baked goods are fresh, the portions are just right. Some of the panini and pockets are a little oily. Their donuts are super fluffy - those might be my favourite treat here. This West End location is out of the way for me but I decided to come here just to change it up. I loved the patio here. The cafe design is very inviting, but there's not much standing room for waiting for your order. I arrived around 2:30, which I think was past the lunch rush, but it was still busy, and it took a long while for my sandwich to come out. The barista/cashier that took my order was wonderful though. But it is 24/7 so I would assume that it's pretty open. The neighborhood might be a little iffy at 2am but I think I'd sit there in that modern art deco and work on my laptop for hours. The food was super good - I forgot to take a photo of ours, but I did grab a few photos of the food cases. I ordered the spinach artichoke pocket and my partner ordered the Italian pocket and sausage roll. We got a pistachio donut to share later, and boy am I glad we shared it - while delicious, it was super rich and sweet - and huge, too! Glad we split it. I got a matcha latte with a peppermint tea to-go, and he got the salted caramel latte. Everything was very good, the service was fast, and everything looked and tasted amazing. I go to this location 'cause is on my neighbour hood, but I don't enjoy stopping here. ALWAYS takes for ever to prepare the drinks,. No matter if you are the only client. I hope these reviews are analyzed by someone who can make changes. Please improve the patio; it is always dirty, make it a little charming, build a barrier to stop the noise and dust from the street. Breka is currently my favourite bakery, and the one on Davie is the branch I usually go to, until I visited the Denman location. If you live in Vancouver, you know that finding parking downtown is about as easy as making lasagna from scratch. Breka Denman Street has parking in the back. Yup!....designated parking downtown Vancouver...I know...it's like finding a unicorn! The Chocolate Ganache was incredible. Chocolate cake is my favourite type of cake, and this at Breka delivers every time. The Strawberry Shortcake caused me to discover tastebuds I didn't think I had. It looks very simple, but it isn't until after you taste it that you find out its complexity in flavours, delicate recipe and careful mixing. I think I'm going to try a doughnut next time. We had breakfast here when we stayed in Vancouver. This. bakery has multiple locations in the area. The pastry and coffee were great just like the other's reviews said. I've always liked this bakery when I used to live dt. If you're in Vancouver visiting find the closest breka and visit the downtown area! I definitely recommend a visit to ANY breka cafe. Try out the red velvet cake, German chocolate, baileys mocha cheesecake and more! This area we tried is near Denman close to the entrance of Stanley park and English Bay beach. It's quite small cafe, so if you're into taking your baked goods to the park or to the beach it's a great place to go! They also serve great coffee! The Robson location in the spring/summer is a great place to visit as they have shutdown a street area in lieu of placing outdoor chairs and tables. Be warned that that area is very busy with exchanged student and it's a shopping location district with also tonnes of restaurants nearby to be tried out! read more

"Never had a better scone" the guy says. Well, I have. Earlier this week, in fact. It's a good scone, not an amazing scone. The coffee is very good. All their coffees are espresso-based. For the price you expect to pay for a brewed, thermos-poured coffee elsewhere, you get a double espresso here filled up with hot water to your desired size (aka Americano). Once I figured out what they were doing I asked to make my coffee an extra long pull espresso instead of an Americano. "I don't want any hot water", is what I said. The girl set aside the espresso she had already pulled for me (over my protestations "it's okay! it's okay!" as I hate to cause trouble) and made another one -- just like the first one! -- and proceeded to add hot water. Couldn't catch her in time and didn't know how to communicate my wishes anyway. Talk about lost in translation. And the coffee (Americano) was still good! I can only imagine how good it could have been if she had just gone along with my request to push the button a second time. All pastries in the case looked great, but I was zeroed in on the scones because Yelp told me none are better. read more

I had the pleasure to try their pistachio donut ($3.25 CAD as of April 2022) and it was simply amazing. So creamy and not overly sweet like the other pastries. Love love love! I hope it's not seasonal/temporary. I also tried London fog donut ($2.50 CAD ) and Lavender Tea latte ($4.25 CAD). Funny how so many spots in this area feature "NY style" cheesecake but they all can't compare to real NYC cheesecake. Same here. Haven't had real New York cheesecake so I'm not sure if it's authentic but was definitely quite good. German Chocolate: I usually don't like full chocolate but here the flavour was rich without being too much. Well balanced even when there's so much emphasis on chocolate. Didn't love it as much as cheesecakes but definitely left a better impression than other full chocolate desserts. Really appreciated the presentation of drinks and the cakes were delicious! They had "espresso mousse" (that was what they indicated on the tag of the cake) for the mascarpone part of Tiramisu.. It was difficult to tell whether it was light espresso mousse or cream cheese with light espresso because the taste of cream cheese was minimal (if they tried to mimic the mascarpone part of Tiramisu). The lady fingers were soaked in mostly chocolate syrup with a hint of espresso. I could not taste any liquor in the lady fingers (Kahlua) as indicated on the website. Also, they put more fruits on the top of the cake because there were no chocolate covered espresso beans as indicated on their website. The vanilla sponge at the bottom should be soaked fully in espresso and liquor as well but it was not. In addition, the white chocolate pieces on top of the cake (which were used as decoration) were too sweet that it made my throat uncomfortable. Moreover, they used a box too large for the cake and the cake moved inside the box and touched the sides of the box. They should have the box for that size of the cake because it was one of the standard sizes for cakes in their menu. Furthermore, the handle of the box was sharp and scratched my hand. Importantly, they took the cake away from the customer and wrapped ribbons around the four white chocolate pieces on the four sides of the cake without informing the customer. This was very unhygienic because the ribbons touched the chocolate pieces and the ribbons were unsolicited. It would be better if they made room in the fridge to present all of the whole cakes that were available instead of keeping some of them at the back (they had a lot of room in the fridge for the pastries). Not all the cakes were present because I saw someone bring out additional cakes. The Tiramisu of this location was made differently that was merely an imitation of Tiramisu. Would the Tiramisu taste differently in a different Breka? read more

New Breka, just opened about a month ago. Very nice interior, very clean, staff friendly. Same menu as the other Breka Cafe's locations. Large variety of bakery items. Would prefer drip coffee than Americano. Prices are a little more than I am generally willing to pay, but wanted to give it a try. Newest Breka in town, more modern feeling than the others but a bit smaller than the others I've been to. It also unfortunately has these very uncomfortable window facing benches. We ordered a bienenstich, cappuccino, and Black Forest mocha. The bienenstich (which I asked them to slice so we could eat a piece right there) was really good! It's a fluffy sponge cake topped with candied almonds and filled with whipped cream and custard. It's cake sized but way cheaper than the actual cakes and personal preference wise, better than the other cakes (which I find too dense and sweet). I also liked the cappuccino; it was very smooth and the medium size was huge (I couldn't finish it post-dinner). My friend got the Black Forest mocha which was not as sweet as we feared, just a nice mocha with a dash of cherry flavour. read more

Despite a sign on the door stating that no more than 4 parties can be inside, at one time, the store allows multiple parties indoors. The service is terribly slow. I ordered one thing only, a brioche bread, and when I arrived home I realized that it was at least one-day old. When a smile is not a smile. You know that server, she's hugging the cash register, her only job at that moment is to take your money before you get your product while her colleagues rush in the background to fill your order. In this case, her name is Joy. Her grandmother might be proud, I'm sure she'd be the only one. I'm in my senior years, my hearing not as good as it used to be. So, when Joy, hugging her register, yelled out "next" the lady behind me heard but I did not. The lady behind me made gestures and I realized it was Joy yelling next, meaning me. Being yelled at and then poked by a stranger, at this point felt rude and uncalled for. I'm a regular (was) customer, and in the past servers make eye contact with me, and ask how they can help me. Not Joy, she just wants you to move along. To greet her, smiling, while she hugs her register. With a greater big smile Joy asks me how she can help. I let her know I find her and the customer rude. She smiles wider and thanks me for my feedback. I look at Joy: Smiling at me. I say: "Really? You are going to do this right now? Joy says yes. I give my order and Joy is smiling and so I ask for her name, bc I want to give her mention in my Yelp review. Very loudly, for all to hear, she raises her arms high in the air, giving it a ballerina twist and declares: "oh good, I like to be famous!" Perhaps to embarrass? Who knows! What I do know is: Joy needs customer manners and no one believes it when she smiles! My only fault at this point is my aging hearing problem. It's aggression at its finest. Oh, and the apple turnovers actually did not have any apples in it. For this, and other Joy reasons, I'm taking my 30.00 a month elsewhere. read more

I enter the establishment. It's smaller than the usual Breka but I'm still greeted with the well-lit tiered glass display. I go straight to the Panini options cus dis bitch needs a sammich. I choose the chicken and bacon and the cashier promptly puts the sandwich the press. She is very friendly and attentive for after midnight. The other girl behind the counter is much less into customer service or drunk people bullshit in general. I step back to observe the shop. There are a few students and couple exhausted looking gents in their 60s who I assume are suffering from manopause insomnia. Honestly what I expect from a Breka so it's very comforting. A drunk couple come in and kneel before the display case and peruse the goodies. They get distracted and make out for a bit before remembering where they are and order a single sausage roll. The general decor is very bright and fresh. They have these cool interlocking 2x10s dangling overhead but I find the hanging lights to be a bit oversized for the counter. My sandwich was ready for takeout and served to me in a paper box with a pickle. I walked home in the rain avoiding eye contact with the homeless guys and the stumbling tweakers. First impression of the sammich: It's smaller than I remember from Breka but that may be a chain wide change. My initial bite is flavourful and spicy. The ratio of bread to meat to cheese to food lube is excellent. The overall experience is a grower of flavs rather than a shower. Verdict: 10/10 will return for late night drunk sandwich needs. read more
