Due to work I sometimes get lucky to come to this place, and just know this, it is in Edgemont Village, close to two other coffee shops, those one's don't even come close to being busy compared to this place... why is that... well when you go inside you will know. The abundance of different, interesting pastries is what makes this place stand out in this little community. I remember my first time coming here, I had no idea what to get, did not read up on anything about this place, just was waiting for a co-worker who wanted to meet up for coffee at the place next door, and I decided let's go to this place instead, and wanted a little snack, and had their apple & cheese muffin (yes.. this odd combo) and it was history.... now everytime I go here I seldom leave with this item with my coffee. If you are wanting other things this place does have it, from cookies to croissants to a wide arrangement of baked goods, this place will make your taste buds happy. Also if you want to know they serve Illy coffee. It maybe the smaller coffee shop in the area, but it is the better coffee shop in the area too, it is small and cozy and a good place to just sit down and chill. So if you are in Edgemont village make a stop here, and if you have been to the other Bjornbar in Burquitlam, this is the better one!
Bjornbar Bakery makes all sorts of wonderful goodies, but our favorite is the Ganookie. The Ganookie is a humungous cookie that is filled with Ganache. Ganache + Cookie = Ganookie! We first tried them a couple of years ago, for my birthday. Munchkin and I fell in love with Ganookies right then and there. They are soft, ooey gooey, and packed with flavor. You can order them online at https://www.ganookie.com/ or just walk into the shop and buy them. Ordering online is really the best way to buy them (in my opinion), as you can choose as many as you like and you get to choose from a wide variety of ganache flavors. When you walk into the shop, there's a limited selection and you just have to settle for whatever is available. We happened to be in Edgemont Village already and made a spontaneous decision to drop by Bjornbar Bakery, so we just took whatever they had. On this day, they had several different cookies, all filled with Mocha Ganache. We actually made the mistake of thinking they were all filled with chocolate ganache as we brought the Ganookies home and didn't bother reading the labels on the back until after we'd eaten them. Ooops! The coffee flavor was very prominent. As soon as I tasted it, I knew it wasn't chocolate, which is when I finally flipped over the wrapper and saw the words "Mocha Ganache." Super yummy all the same, and the fact that the coffee flavor was so pronounced that it caused me to question what flavor I'd bought and read the wrapper is a positive I think, as it means they did a really good job of making the ganache mocha flavored!
I wish I live in this village or nearby, just so I can try all the cakes, pastries, sandwiches and drinks here. They all look so appetizing. The place is welcoming and staff are friendly. My friend and I came here to explore Edgemont Village and to try the hot chocolate here. We had the same one -- Ciao Bella -- which is tiramisu hot chocolate served with tiramisu ganookie bite. This was very yummy. Rich and dark chocolate with a hint of alcohol. It went very well. As we were waiting to go somewhere else for lunch, we did not try any of the other baked goods or sandwiches. Definitely a place to visit again when I am in this area.
We had a difficult time choosing what to try and ended up leaning towards the baked goods (although the pastry case looked delectable as well). We were blown away by all four items we had--a pistachio pastry, a marzipan croissant, a chocolate zucchini muffin, and a small chocolate donut like item. The marzipan croissant was generously filled with marzipan and an amazing croissant.... while I love pistachios and really appreciated the generous amount in this slice.
Oh. My. Word. Why have I not come to this wonderful place sooner?? I guess I always pictured the bars being sold as granola, energy type bars. I was in the area and wanted to stop by for Hot Chocolate Fest, so I looked at the website to see what else was available. I was drooling just reading the menu. Now imagine being there and seeing a display case full of dessert bars. The selection is a bit overwhelming. I had a box of 4 (2.99 each): tiramisu - superb, just like the actual full size, lemon meringue - awesome except for the saltiness of the meringue that I didn't really like, black forest - deeeee-lightful, and matcha - kinda underwhelming, but not bad for those looking for something that isn't too sweet. I like the idea of bars because it's a smaller portion size for those of us (ie) me) who have a huge sweet tooth. They also sell other pastries (muffins, cinnamon buns, strudel type offerings they call jalousies, etc). I ordered an apple jalousie, it was alright, nothing mind blowing, but packed full of apples. The only downfall here is that the space is pretty small. Limited seating and the area where you stand and wait for your order is super cramped. Limited street parking. (good luck)
A busy place to visit if you're meeting a friend for coffee or having lunch with family. It was busy at lunch on a weekday. Our rating is below (5 is the highest) Service: 4 - if you're dining in, you'll get a number & they'll bring your food to the table. Ambience - 4 - nice casual contemporary café - I loved the couch & 2 chairs beside the gas fireplace. Maybe a challenge if you have more than 4 people dining in. Ideal for 2 people. It was busy. If you intend on dining in, you'll need to be here before the peak times. Food: 4 - If you love desserts & gooey cinnamon buns, go no further. There are lots of desserts (I counted over 36 kinds of dessert bars) & pastries. They have simple lunch items such as soup (only had one type of soup) & grilled sandwiches/paninis. If you like good quality coffee, they serve Illy. We had the tomato basil soup which I found a bit on the salty side. We shared the spicy chicken sandwich which wasn't too spicy. There wasn't much chicken inside and found it a bit dry. The sandwich was about $15. A nice local coffee place to visit whether you're in the Edgemont neighbourhood or enroute to Grouse Mountain. It's worth the detour. There's free street parking around the area.
Latte+Chocolate Ice pistachio is ok but the grape fruit ice tea tastes like tea+tap water with a teaspoon of sugar and food coloring
HOT CHOCOLATE FEST IS BACK!! My partner and I are usually not too big of a hot chocolate fan, but we heard that this is infused with Earl grey tea. You bet we went to get one! We loved every part of this drink, it wasn't overly sweet as it's made with dark chocolate. The Earl grey flavour worked so well, it was like a london fog hot chocolate. As the truffle melted into the drink, it was so creamy and it also added a hint of sweetness. You can totally tell that it was some high quality truffle! Even the whip cream was delicious, it was so light and fresh. Go try this before it ends! We also got their mocha and it's so good! Wow! What a fabulous bakery with Illy coffee! Everything we had was exceptional. The service was excellent. The other customers all friendly!
Good selection of pastries and dessert bars. Can get your coffee fix here too (matcha latte anyone?). We got the chocolate almond pastry and the cherry turnover. While both were good I'd recommend the chocolate almond pastry as I don't think you can get that anywhere. Good environment to enjoy a cup of coffee with someone! They also have a couch and chairs to lounge on. There's seating outside as well.
Two weeks ago, I ordered a Red Velvet cake from BjornBar Bakery for a birthday celebration for two. This was my first time ordering.. and the cake was so good! It got devoured by everyone at the birthday, and several went for seconds (including me). Even fiancé liked it, and he's not much of a dessert person. When going to pick up the cake itself, their pastries looked amazing! I was tempted, but had to save my stomach for the birthday celebration. I liked the Red Velvet cake so much that I ordered this Fruity! (strawberry) cake the following weekend. We had a small family gathering for my nephew's 1st birthday on Sunday, and we decided to also surprise my sister with cake too, since her actual birthday was only a few days later. This cake was delicious as well.. a vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream frosting. If you like a light, fruity cake.. this is it. You can choose from other fruits as well. Seriously, look at them layers in the cake.. wow! Highly recommend! Will definitely be visiting again to try their pastries (and perhaps another cake in the future).
I enjoyed an excellent americano here, and my husband liked his cappuccino. Super friendly service from the young ladies behind the counter. Everything in the case looked delectable, but we decided upon a large peanut butter-caramel cookie that was still warm from the oven -- and was it ever good. It was made even better with a light sprinkle from the salt shaker. We also shared a Black Forest bar with frosting that tasted a bit refrigeratory; the chocolate sponge cake layers were dry but the cherry filling was tart-sweet and delicious. The patio provided a relaxing space to sit, sip and snack as we watched the denizens of this lovely neighborhood stroll by. read more

Keeping the tradition alive and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate at @bjornbar&bakery for the 4th year in a row #26 - A BEAR NECESSITYSpicy cayenne and caramel infused hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and caramel. Served with a shortbread cookie shaped like a bear covered in delicious sprinkles. #27 - "BJORN" THE BEAR-SCOTTI LOVER Dark chocolate orange hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and chocolate decor. Served with a dark chocolate biscotti filled with orange zest and toasted hazelnuts. Both drinks were delicious. I personally liked the bear cookie more because the biscotti was a little too hard for my liking. I really liked this year's features but out of the 8 hot chocolates I've tried from here over the years, these weren't in the top 3. I visited Bjornbar Bakery for the first time to check out the Hot Chocolate Festival. This event has been great overall for helping me discover new places that I might not otherwise visit. Although we came to drink hot chocolate, the star of the show was something called a B Bomb. I actually almost didn't order this hot chocolate at all, because it was called "You Da B Bomb," and I felt embarrassed to say that out loud, frankly. Good thing I got over myself - the B bomb was delicious. I'm still not exactly sure what it was, but I sure enjoyed it. It was best described as maybe a cross between a pain au chocolate and a Timbit. A little sphere of croissant dough with chocolate in the middle, rolled in sugar. I think it might have been fried, but I'm not totally sure, because it was so buttery. Next time I'm on the North Shore, I look forward to coming back and trying more baked goods. Bjornbar specializes in layered bars, and seem to have at least fifty options. The savoury items looked appealing as well. The atmosphere was loud and colorful, and people seemed to be having fun. There was slightly unconventional but energetic music playing. Seating was somewhat limited, but this may be because we visited on a weekend afternoon during the HC festival. Came here to try their You Da B-bomb ! hot chocolate for the hot chocolate festival this year. I wanted to try their jalhousie but they were sold out :(( The atmosphere is cozy and cute, but the floors were dirty. You da B-bomb hot chocolate (3.5/5) The portion was really tiny for almost $6 lol but it was pretty good. It's just your average hot chocolate though, but the chocolate B-bomb that it came with was pretty good. Not sure if it's worth it haha. Cappuccino (3/5) Decent, but nothing special. My parents said the barista could have taken more care in terms of preparing the coffee as the cream was carelessly dumped on top. Opera bar (4/5) This was my favourite. It had a nice coffee flavour along with the chooclate, although it was a little too sweet. Peanut butter cup bar (1.5/5) Way too sweet and didn't have enough peanut butter flavour. I wouldn't get this again. Pecan pie bar (2.5/5) This was also too sweet, and there was too much butter filling compared to pecans. Brownie bar (3/5) This was my dad's favourite, as he liked the rich chocolate flavour and the almonds. I thought it was okay, but it lacked chocolate flavour and it was too dense and hard, as we couldn't cut through it with a fork. This was an okay experience, but I'm not sure if I will be back since I don't live near this area. read more

Amazing baked goods! I can't recall the name of the different items I indulged in, they're tagged in the pics. Oh, they were jalousie! I tried a blueberry jalousie & a pistachio jalousie, whoa! Enjoy some gluttony, get a little bit of this, a little bit of that along with a cup of coffee & enjoy! Nice seating, clean bathroom, outdoor seating available, too. I hope to return here again, maybe next year I'll reverse my camp across Canada trek & go East to West... read more

What a delightful little place in Edgemont Village in North Vancouver. We were walking around and we found it by accident. The small place was packed around noon and there's a small line up. We ordered the minestrone soup (rotating daily soup-that comes in a cup or bowl, served a delicious housemade crouton), the Howie (breakfast sandwich peppery egg, bacon in English muffin), and grilled cheese sandwich. We sat in the patio, drank the americano that I spilled a bit when I carried it. Nevertheless, the Americano was perfect with beautiful crema on top, and that little meringue kisses on the side was a cute little touch, Mom's mocha was delicious too, smooth and with the right balance. Finally our sandwiches arrived and we devoured them! The grilled cheese was grilled to perfection and there's a hint of garlic in it. The Howie, not sure if we like it that much compares to the other offerings, it feel that it's too dry and it needs of something. It reminds me of Starbucks' breakfast English muffin. We will be coming back to try different items on their menu! read more

Today we chose a Meringue, a Cookie and a small piece of Cheesecake. Two thumbs up for taste for all three. We would of loved to have brought some things home with us, but doing that would have blown the budget!! It can get quite noisy at times, the busy line ups come in waves. Definitely a great place to go for an after dinner treat. the three items we chose were already quite rich, I can't wait to taste other items they offer. I LOVE how the menus are written on huge rolls of paper!! very cool!! read more

We ordered a Lemon Meringue cake for a Sweet 16 birthday venue...the cake was utterly scrumptious! Definitely going to order more baked goods from this beautiful bakery for our next event It was just such a lovely cake to cap off the evening... read more

Absolutely delightful. We ordered a raspberry B-Bomb (round croissant with raspberry filling), a blackberry and white chocolate scone, a potato and dill "borisko" quiche, and a blueberry jalousie. Plus coffee and espresso. Everything was AMAZING, special shout-out to the B-Bomb which was absolute soft, flaky, delicious, goodness. Highly recommend trying one. It's easy to tell that the ingredients are quality and the pastries are baked fresh. In terms of the atmosphere, it was cozy and had a living room feel during the holidays. Plenty of seating both inside and out at tables and a large sofa. read more

This lovely bakery is located in one of the nicest neighborhoods of the town. Wonderful service and products compliment each other for anyone who needs a very nice comfort. After visiting Bjorn multiple times, I am confident to say that customer service is important to the staff. The setting of the bakery and the choice of furnitures have created a delightful ambiance that is like a the warmest and most comfortable living room ever. I worked in coffee shops during college and tried many different roasts in many different ways. The coffee at bjorn is not sour at all, which I greatly appreciate. This is my go to place in North Van and will be for a long time. I'm pretty sure about that. read more

Came here during the Hot Chocolate Festival and tried their "You Da B-Bomb" drink. This drink & treat is lower priced than some others as the portion of the drink is smaller but it tasted good and I wanted more after! The best part was the B-Bomb (doughnut) which was drizzled in chocolate. It was, light & fluffy and delicious! read more

A newish biz in the Village. Grouse Mountain is an old hood and Edgemont Village was the nearby shopping area. Back then the Bakehouse was the local gem eatery / bakery. The Bakehouse is gone now but this new biz, though different in its products and presentation, is equally extraordinary! Kudos! My friend and I had the soup d'jour and shared a grill cheese, she had wine, I had a local pale ale. Everything was exceptional. And the sweet and savoury baked things and sandwiches in the cases looked equally appetizing. A new Village fave! read more
Omg this place is a gem! I was in north Van for an appointment, after looking for a place for a light lunch and or a cafe also needing a coffee to pick me up. I looked on my yelp app and this place pooped up. This place was near by so I thought why not. First off, I've never been to this little village Edgemont, nice little surprise. Plenty of free street parking. I walked in to the cafe and fell in love. Beautiful fresh baked goods laid out, plenty of seating, and very welcoming feeling. What shocked me the most was the prices all very reasonably priced. They had mac & cheese, sandwiches, soups, salads and great assortments of fresh baked goods. I ordered mac & cheese, a pastry and a latte all came tax and tip was just over $15! Coffee, pastry and mac & cheese was all good. I love finding local cafes in other neighborhoods. You can tell most of the people here are locals, they knew what to order, it took me a couple of minutes to decide everything looked good. read more
