I came here for the first time a few years ago on the suggestion of a then-boss, who always went here and was friends with the owner. So I booked an appointment with the owner and, while my cut was great, my color, which was supposed to be a vibrant cherry red, turned out to be this terrible reddish orange carrot color. I was caught a bit speechless, but the stylist kept talking and talking, playing up how great it was... and mentioning how it wasn't what I'd talked about, but I'd love it eventually anyway. She knew it was a disaster. I eventually played it off and acted like I was trying to copy Hayley Williams from the band Paramore to my friends for a week or so. Then to my horror, the $200 color I paid for and was told would last at least 2 months, washed out after about 9 days. Not only did that "vibrant color boost" wash down the drain, so did my cash.
During that entire visit, the stylists all talked to each other and my own stylist rarely talked with me unless it was to pry into some personal business that shouldn't have been made a topic. They didn't have a receptionist, so the stylists were answering calls. And apparently, most calls came on their cellphones, clients rarely calling the salon line. And texting too.
So for a few years, I stuck with cheap, simple haircut places like Great Clips, which treated me better as a client, and box dies which promised-and delivered-long lasting color and a comparatively dirt cheap price. Then I decided I wanted some blue in my hair about a year ago and Trends was one of the only places that would do such an odd color.
I appreciated how the same stylist asked me what shade of blue and even special ordered it for me. And even gave me the cut and color at half price because I was low on money. And those two points are the only reasons why I didn't say anything about my following experience to them.
I apparently paid $75 for a good cut, color that washed out in 17 days and turned white later on, and to be ignored by cell phone calls and texts and more interesting conversations with the other stylist in house that day-as well as that stylists customers. I'm not really a chatty person, but carrying conversations across the room with other people while chopping my hair and putting chemicals on it doesn't seem like enough attention is being paid attention to the matter.
The overall look was great while it lasted. But the sad part was the 17 days it stayed. And when I called to ask why, I was told she knew my hair's make up wouldn't hold the color long and that I was welcome to come back and get it touched up-for the full price of $160. I didn't understand why it would be so much considering I only wanted color, not a cut and style again.
Instead, I opted for the blue box dye I'd spotted miraculously at my local drug store. That $9 box lasted 4 1/2 months. Yeah, I touched it up a few times, but it NEVER all washed out and left me looking white. It was still blue until last month when I went all black (with box color, which seems to do better in my hair than anything Trends does).
I don't know if it's techniques of the stylist or the products they use (my friend who is a hair dye fanatic said the blue she used should have lasted at least 2 1/2 months, so let that speak), but this place isn't good with color. My cuts have been fine, but that's the only satisfactory thing I get when I leave. read more
