Tammy is a great nail tech I have been going to her monthly for 5 yrs. Not quite sure about the hair stylists

I purchased a voucher or coupon through Groupon. I was nervous about going to a new salon. I love my old salon, but I wanted to try out other services in the area. I received two reminders via text leading up to the day of my appointment, which I appreciate. When I walked in, I immediately noticed the cleanliness and chic look of the salon. The front person welcomed me and notified the hairstylist I was there. I did not wait long. I met with hairstylist Natalie. She was great. I went in for a haircut, blow-dry, style, and conditioning treatment, but I also asked if she could touch up my roots and tone down my hair color. She looked at my hair, and we worked out a plan. Because I was asking for additional services, she was not able to do both, so I had to prioritize what I needed to be done first, which was my hair color. I should have told them over the phone about my additional service needs. As Natalie worked on my hair, she always kept me in the loop as to what she was doing and made sure I was comfortable. I asked about the toner process which she explained, the science behind it. I learned something new. I also liked that she had a nice hair style for herself. I don't trust hairstylist who can not style their own hair. I was served some hot tea (I was given 3 options: tea, water, and wine I think). When it came down to styling my hair, she asked me what my preferences were. I walked away a satisfied customer. I will be returning to use my Groupon voucher later this month. I love my hair's outcome; now, I look forward to seeing how Natalie layers my hair. Stay tuned for more updates. read more

I was in town for a wedding and needed a last minute updo. I called affinity salon on Friday and they scheduled me for a Saturday at 10:15 appointment. they did an amazing job with my hair, it looked absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend them, Jackline did a great job. The location was beautiful and everybody there was super nice and accommodating. I can't say enough good things about Affinity, and especially Natalie! I was visiting from out of town for a wedding, and needed to get my hair touched up before the event. I was able to schedule an appointment easily with only a few days notice, which I very much appreciated! Natalie worked wonders on my hair! She's an expert at color, and I am so happy with how it turned out. She was also just an incredibly nice person and I really enjoyed the conversation we had. I'm actually a little sad that I don't live in the St. Joseph area because I would be a regular in Natalie's chair! After definitely needing a wax and being new to the area, I decided to give Affinity a try based on the positive reviews on here and the pictures showed a clean place. I'm so happy to say my experience followed suit and I have found my go-to salon! Leah was awesome. Super friendly and definitely knows what she's doing. It was my first time trying the sugaring method and it went great. The only downer for everyone needing a wax is she's reducing her days at the salon; thankfully I'm able to make it work so I can continue going back. The room was very clean and had a super relaxing sound machine going in the background. Highly recommend. read more

I called (yesterday) wanting an appointment for that afternoon and they were able to squeeze me in. My hair was BAD. My splint ends had split ends!! The salon coordinator was super nice over the phone. When we (my cousin accompanied me) got there everyone was super nice and offered us coffee/tea/water. This was my first time there so I was nervous bcus you never know when trying a new hairstylist. Nechole Johnson was the one that took care of me and she was so sweet! She made me feel comfortable and she made good conversation. I showed her a picture of what I had in mind and she exceeded my expectations. I would never go to this salon again, my hair was over processed (the foils were on my hair for almost an hour). The lady damaged my hair to the point I don't think I will ever get my hair done again. They only received a star because that's the only way I could post a review! read more

We visited Affinity during a recent Girls Weekend in Michigan after reading the decent reviews on Yelp. We booked appointments for massages, facials, mani/pedi's and were lucky enough that they had a wedding cancellation so they were able to accommodate us (last minute) for a Saturday morning. Betty, who answered the phone and checked us in for our services was awesome! We arrived at the salon and another wedding was just finishing up so we could easily see they were having a busy day but that didn't impact the attention and courtesy we received during our visit. Kendra did my swedish massage and it was so relaxing and luxurious that I almost fell asleep. My friend and I had buddy massages and she thoroughly enjoyed her Hot Stone treatment. Our other friend did a facial and said she "was transformed - a new person!" She claimed it was the best she'd ever had. They followed their massage/facial with a manicure and pedicure. All of our services were wonderful and incredibly affordable for what we received. We proceeded to have lunch in downtown St. Joe's which is a stones throw away from Affinity. During lunch, we received a call from Betty asking if one of us had left our glasses at the spa, we did and quickly made arrangements to pick them up on our way home. We appreciated Betty's concern and the time she took to track us down. When all was said and done we left Affinity Salon/Spa feeling refreshed, relaxed and eager to return the next time we visit Michigan. read more

I booked an appointment almost a week ago for 115 today. At about 1230 they called and sent me a text that the stylus was running an hour behind. Not convenient, but OK. I drove 45 minutes out there, called inside and was told she was still with her other client. 10 minutes later she came out and asked me if I wanted to rebook because she was still going to be "a while". I recently was married and had my hair done here. It's a fun place with a nice atmosphere. The ladies are all really nice, but I just wasn't that pleased with my hair, which is a bummer. I did have a hair trial done prior and I showed a picture of a very simple, natural looking low bun to the hairdresser. I asked her if she wanted to keep it pulled up and she said no, then proceeded to make a very curly pinup that resembled the picture I showed her only in that it was, or at least looked like, a bun. After the trial I sent them several pictures of the hairstyle I fell in love with (simple bun) for reference. Wedding day came, she said she'd looked over the pictures, and then proceeded to tease my hair and pin it back into a style that was very unattractive and again - I don't mean to keep harping on this but - it looked nothing like the picture. She didn't get upset when I said I didn't think it was flattering, but again I pulled up the pic so she could see and again she didn't even look. Third time around it was closer but by that time an hour had already passed and I felt like what I had was as good as it was going to get. In the end, I really wish I would have just practiced doing my own hair. read more

Yesterday my boyfriend and I went and got mani/pedi's from Ali Glaske and Nicole Hardin. It was my boyfriends first mani and pedi and let me tell you, it took some begging to get him to go. I've been asking for months and he always says later but I wasn't sure if it would ever happen. Imagine my surprise when he brought me for a couples mani/pedi for a day date! He had Nicole and I had Ali, we all chatted and it was such a dreamy day! I have stubs for nails, yet Ali miraculously made my nails look fantastic. They have a million colors and Ali patiently waited as I debated between not 2 but 5 different colors. She helped picked out the best color for my accent nail and both girls took their time. It was the best mani pedi I've ever had, and I've had lots and lots. After our fabulous time, I asked if they had anyone who could do my hair today. Ali helped me make an appointment for today with Amanda and I was so nervous. Having fine hair that grows slow, it's quite a "risk" to go to someone new. I am the first to admit I am neurotically picky. I still try to go to my same hairdresser I've gone to forever, even though she lives 2 states away. I am so glad I took the chance and went to Amanda from Affinity Salon and Spa. Amanda blew me away with her fastidious attention to detail. She's so stinking cute and upbeat, I'll definitely be back on our next vacation to St. Joe's! Thanks for making me feel fabulous Amanda, Ali, and thanks from my boyfriend to Nicole! This is the greatest salon. Clean, calm, and relaxing with a very professional and friendly staff. This is also an Aveda concept salon which you have to love. They use and sell their products and always have the most recent products. I'm from St. Joe but live in Chicago. Whenever I am home, I get my hair cut here. I have had Amber, Shelley and Angie cut my hair and all did a fantastic job. My sister sees Amber who does an amazing cut and color. I love not having to take a loan out for a hair cut as I nearly do when I visit a Chicago salon. The end result is just as good as a pricier Chicago salon without the Chicago prices and Chicago attitude. read more

The staff here is very friendly and accommodating...let me start with that. I had come a month before my wedding to have a trial style. I had sent 4 different looks for stylist to review prior to my visit (from Chicago). No one ever looked at what I had sent, despite even a phone call to remind them that I sent them ahead of time. Then when we did look at them, it seemed that there was a challenge with each of them. This was despite the fact that I first cleared their feasibility with my stylist back in Chicago. With my wedding day appointment set, and no other option in the area...I mistakenly carried on with a positive can-do attitude despite having left looking a little 'Texas'. :) I hesitated on posting this review, until now. It has been one month since my wedding day and I have spend a handful of times reflecting on the occasion with great joy, but am surprised by how my thoughts are clouded with how upset I am with my very not-special hairstyle. I want to be kind, but it's really upsetting. I am not shallow, but for a day in which all eyes are on the bride and everyone's look is immortalized forever in photos...this is important. As my bridal party and I were at the salon, the stylists were teaching each other how to use a curling iron. I'm not even exaggerating. As my hair was getting done, I politely, but clearly expressed that I was concerned with the direction my style (or lack thereof) was taking. My stylist literally said NOTHING. Bottom line is that my hair looked extremely pedestrian on my wedding day. This time I didn't even get 'Texas' as it would have been preferred. One of my bridesmaids did not want her hair done, but the owner insisted that I had made her an appointment and made her get a $60 updo (see: two bobby pins). Apparently, 8 booked appointments from us wasn't enough. I'd revisit that day and do it all over again for two reasons: 1) because I loved our wedding; and 2) so I could have my hair done elsewhere...or by me. read more

Is here less than a star? The worst salon experience of my life. Half on eyebrow is gone and clearly a mistake. What worse is that the aesthetician messed up and blamed me. She ask if my hair came out easily and proceeded to say, "There was no wax there and the hair just came out." Aveda should revoke their license agreement and take back its brand. Nicole lacks integrity and should seek a new line of work. read more

It was a good haircut. They listened to me, we're very kind and had great customer service. My negative feedback would be that the salon is a little outdated and isn't as trendy or up-to-date with hair styles as I would prefer. Coming from a big city, I prefer a little more "atmosphere" in a salon experience, but for the price and quality of the cut, it was just fine. read more

I moved to St. Joe in 2007, and started going to Affinity that same year. I can honestly say that since that time, I have not gone to any other salon that has had the same level of service and results. They consistently give me the results I want no matter which stylist I work with. The staff is very friendly and I always have a good time. read more

Affinity was my answer to my attempt to spoil myself while visiting my parents for some much needed vacation time. I had the stress relieving massage and facial and it was AMAZING. My skin has looked amazing since the facial. It really did wonders for the post winter dullness. My face looks bright and clear. My massage was also AMAZING. the 90 minutes went by way too fast and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. From the plush robes to the scented oils and everything in between. Aveda facial from Nicole was incredible. We focused on exfoliation and extractions and she went into great detail about all the wonderful products that she was using. She always listens to me, and executes what I request as perfectly as my head permits ;) Strangers frequently compliment my hair and ask me where I get it styled. All of the staff are friendly and have years of experience. Every time I have an appointment, I know that I will be graciously offered something to drink, and that the environment will be full of interesting and lively people. I came to this salon for a facial in 2012 while visiting St. Joseph. The staff was incredibly nice, and the spa room was in the back and very well set up. I honestly didn't get to relax much, but the facial was decent as she addressed my skin concerns. I'll return if I ever find myself in St Joseph again. read more

My husband got me the Ultimate Spa Package for Mother's Day. (This earned him the Best Husband Ever award but oddly he's not listed on Yelp for review.) Quite simply, it was AMAZING. The package included a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure, and all of the services were wonderful. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely dedicated to making sure I felt relaxed and comfortable. I have been going to Ali for a few years now and can't imagine letting anyone else touch my hair. It has gotten to the point that I show up and don't even have to give her much direction because I trust her judgment. I just let her know if I want "more of the same" or "ready for some change." If you're coloring your hair, I highly recommend her! It's been a long time since I've had my hair styled here, but I've also had two other hair dressers style my hair for special occasions and I was very happy both times. I have also had waxes here and as far as waxing goes... it was about as pleasant of an experience as you can get lol. read more
