A family business. Real people. The hours are short, Friday through Sunday only, but maybe that is good. Maybe it keeps the place human. I brought in my mother's watch. Not a treasure by market standards, but worth more than Fort Knox to her because a friend gave it to her when she retired. Steve met me at the counter. He held the watch the way a priest holds a chalice and treated it as though it were a Patek Philippe. In five minutes he replaced the battery, polished away years of tarnish, and handed it back to me. It looked reborn. The bill was six dollars. Less than a cheeseburger. Meanwhile, I looked in the cases. Not just the cookie cutter trinkets that line the malls, but old pieces with personality, antiques, oddities, jewelry with ghosts in them. This is a store where people still know your name, and you know theirs. That used to be normal in America. Now it feels like a miracle. Support it. Places like this are how civilization hangs on.

When I asked whether a pair of earring was 14k or 18k, without asking and to my horror he scratched the side of them. I also found the prices exhorbitant. After hearing his estimate to replace a tiny diamond my Tiffany diamond heart pendant, I decided to see if Tiffany's could repair it and they charged less than half, with surely a better quality diamond. I will not go back and cannot in good conscience recommend Tindall for jewelry repair.

Spoke to a few nice girls who said I just missed the jeweler--I think he only works until 2 or 3 most days. I said I'd swing back a few days later. Came again three days later and he left early that day, so he wasn't there again. I left my watch and asked for a quote on replacing a fallen chrono hand. I also asked if they wouldn't mind getting me some size 11 claddagh rings to try. They were very nice and said they'd help. Didn't hear anything for four days, so I called back to get the quote. They said they called me (no missed calls on my mobile) and did the repair. I didn't mind since it was $25, but I asked for a quote--not the repair. I swung by two days later. The watch looked great--he did a solid job. But the rings weren't there. The girl behind the counter called the jeweler who informed me that it would be a special order and cost a little over $100. Obviously, the woman who said they'd get a few rings in for me to try was wrong, and probably never even asked him about getting some in to sample. I'm going to chalk this up to just a random comedy of errors. The work was good and the people seem nice.

Save yourself the money and go straight to their supplier... AMAZON. They charged us $200 for a…read morering that can be bought on Amazon for $20. A 1000% markup on something any regular person can buy online. It's one thing if you buy something from a supplier and there is a reasonable markup... but this is straight up insulting! And a lovely policy of no refunds stated right at the bottom of your receipt. Bad service overall, wouldn't size me until they knew I was buying something. And to top it all off the slap in the face that my ring came from Amazon marked up to high heavens. A terribly unethical business and all they saw was a young couple with a baby that they could get one over on.

They were detailed about when the work would be completed, and we got the ring back pretty quickly (within a week). I honestly don't know where to start, my husband went to The OrigInal Pratico Jewelers and dealt…read morewith Franny Pratico to purchase a pair of earrings for me for Christmas and during the negotiations he tried to negotiate a lower price at which time she hit him because he insulted her - he purchased the earrings at full asking price anyway (against his gut instinct) I took the earrings to two separate appraisers who valued them one at half the price my husband paid and the other at under half of that he paid. Needless to say my husband returned the earrings for a full refund but not before Franny argued with him and hassled him (even though the earrings were returned within the mandatory 7 day return period) I wouldn't keep them because my homeowners insurance company wouldn't insure them for what we paid they'd only insure them for their TRUE value and I didn't want to be ripped off. ANY jeweler worth their salt will guarantee that the jewelry they sell you will appraise for the amount paid. I would give this business NO STARS if I could- BUYER BEWARE THIS BUSINESS LACKS INTEGRITY!
