They came highly recommended from another local business owner and so we gave it a go. The owners are brothers and are BOTH extremely personable and VERY professional! They have been around since 1981 apparently and it is very easy to see why. It seems that a few of the family members work together there, and they are all just as helpful and friendly. My wife had lots of questions about diamonds and Paul did his best to make us appreciate all aspects of buying a diamond, all the while being EXTREMELY patient with us! Buying an expenisve piece of jewelery is not easy and we had to go away several times just to make sure the money was well spent. All along, Paul was again very patient and was able to keep the rings that were in 'the mix' for her, set aside out of the case until we decided on which one. We knew after our very first visit that it was NOT a matter of 'IF' we would buy from him, but 'WHEN'... We highly recommend Trent Jewelers!

A family business. Real people. The hours are short, Friday through Sunday only, but maybe that is good. Maybe it keeps the place human. I brought in my mother's watch. Not a treasure by market standards, but worth more than Fort Knox to her because a friend gave it to her when she retired. Steve met me at the counter. He held the watch the way a priest holds a chalice and treated it as though it were a Patek Philippe. In five minutes he replaced the battery, polished away years of tarnish, and handed it back to me. It looked reborn. The bill was six dollars. Less than a cheeseburger. Meanwhile, I looked in the cases. Not just the cookie cutter trinkets that line the malls, but old pieces with personality, antiques, oddities, jewelry with ghosts in them. This is a store where people still know your name, and you know theirs. That used to be normal in America. Now it feels like a miracle. Support it. Places like this are how civilization hangs on.

Spoke to a few nice girls who said I just missed the jeweler--I think he only works until 2 or 3 most days. I said I'd swing back a few days later. Came again three days later and he left early that day, so he wasn't there again. I left my watch and asked for a quote on replacing a fallen chrono hand. I also asked if they wouldn't mind getting me some size 11 claddagh rings to try. They were very nice and said they'd help. Didn't hear anything for four days, so I called back to get the quote. They said they called me (no missed calls on my mobile) and did the repair. I didn't mind since it was $25, but I asked for a quote--not the repair. I swung by two days later. The watch looked great--he did a solid job. But the rings weren't there. The girl behind the counter called the jeweler who informed me that it would be a special order and cost a little over $100. Obviously, the woman who said they'd get a few rings in for me to try was wrong, and probably never even asked him about getting some in to sample. I'm going to chalk this up to just a random comedy of errors. The work was good and the people seem nice.

With the sentimental value that's hard to do but we decided to try rings instead. The one I fell in love with was wayyyy out of any budget I ever thought we'd afford but the owner went out of his way to bless us with the best deal ever! Can of hairspray in her grey hair, black and silver glitter polish on her ridiculously long nails, the most uncomfy looking fake eyelashes ever. She looked like the world's coolest, most over the top grandma, or like a cross between Joan Rivers and Cruella DeVille. I was looking for a gift for a friend and I told her I don't want to spend more than $50. She showed me several pieces that were exactly $50 and a few that were $60 to $65. That's exactly what she should have done! That's what you would do too, right, as you know these self-imposed price caps are somewhat arbitrary? I bought a nifty bracelet with an adjustable chain thingy for just over $60. She wrapped it beautifully in a box with a fancy bow. Marlene of Marlowe's is cool, she's old school and no nonsense and her look is unique and it's so un-Princeton, where everyone looks perfect and constrained and conformist. I would like to find other occasions to shop here to support this little shop.
