My family and I were so disappointed with our order. We ordered extra vegetables in our Moo Goo Gai Pan and they were mushy. By far the worst Moo Goo Gai Pan we've ever eaten. I don't really like this place much. The decor is pretty, but it's basically Chinese takeout level food at a higher price. None of the waitstaff were even Chinese when I went last. And when I asked if they could make Cantonese dishes that weren't on the menu or if the cook spoke Cantonese, the waiter didn't know what Cantonese was...it is literally written all over your menu and you don't know what it means?? When I ordered something that supposedly was made with Sichuan peppers and it wasn't even spicy...I knew this place wasn't for me. Then I asked for chili oil and they brought this big bowl of mainly the chilis with no oil. I guess a lot of people on the Northshore like this place? I know my family does. But they're not accustomed to good Chinese food. I'm genuinely shocked by some of the reviews on here saying this is the best Chinese food in Louisiana and the country...Most people will probably like it, but I don't see the point in paying this much for this level of taste. If it helps anyone who still decides to go here, my family's favorite dish is the Black Pepper Steak and greens; they say it's amazing. Lol. But I found the meat to be chewy and over cooked. I usually come for dinner but tried them for lunch today. Generous portions, it was ready in 10 minutes if you call-in your order. Delicious. It had all of the sides, but no plastic fork. The lemon chicken was excellent. Lunch was just under $10 with tax included. Recommended. read more

Finally had great quality Chinese food! Absolutely love the Presidential Chicken! It's a little spicy with a delicious sauce. Chop Suey was yummy also. The waiters have always been speedy with great suggestions! Our drink glasses are usually filled before we realize they are empty. There is a beautiful pond area with huge gold fish in front. If you ask, they will give you food to feed them. So much fun for the kids! If you want a drink they have a full service bar. Seems to have everything you could want. Trey Yuen is my Chinese food go to on the Northshore. The lunch portions are huge, enough to share if you're not a big eater. I absolutely love the egg rolls and Cho Cho chicken. I'd recommend the special fried rice. Only problem is the food is a little salty. read more

My husband and I used to come here on dates about 18 years ago when we were dating. The Wongs' nephew, Jack Wong, hosted our rehearsal dinner 14 years ago at his restaurant in Lake Charles. What I'm saying is, we're fans. But we hadn't been up here in about 16 years and gave it a shot on my birthday. I remember the place being really fancy when we were dating but the overall dress of the customers has definitely gone down. Maybe it's me?? But there were plenty of sloppily dressed Northshorers and screaming children running full tilt through the dining room. That's not a comment on the restaurant, just a plea that we all, as humans, just try to be a little cooler when we go out. The building and grounds are just as gorgeous and I remember, and every inch of the place is carved and detailed. There's so much to look at when you take your face out of your plate. Our server Trey was young and super attentive and nice. Good job, Trey!!!! (Oh God. Or was his name Chance???) We had eggdrop soup that wasn't gelatinous like it can be. Just full of flavor and crispy noodles and little chicken pieces here and there. The egg was light and feathery. We got crab Rangoon that we're clearly homemade and hand rolled. You know how sometimes they're all the exact same shape and size? Not these guys. Crisp, not chewy and full of more crab than cream cheese. I usually don't eat these but I ate two. They're my husband's favorite so I gave him an extra but only because I'm an awesome wife. He ordered the Shrimp and Crab in a Cloud and man. That was incredible. Tasted like the sea, and of rich egg and the whole thing was so incredibly light. We actually brought some home and I inhaled it for breakfast the next day. The only non-perfect thing we had was the Honey Pecan Shrimp. This is a Wong specialty (here and at their nephew's place) and I even tried to make it myself once when we lived far away. It's usually creamy and sweet and tangy. I think mine had been made and then died in the window while the Cloud was made because it was sticky and congealed and not quite hot. My husband's dish was PIPING hot but even my side of rice was warm and clumpy. It's just not what I know it should be so I think the kitchen's timing was way off or the expediter was asleep on the job. We didn't say anything and brought left overs home and ate them. It was totally "enjoyable" just not perfect. It was the only thing that we had at this dinner that we didn't gush over and that was never the case with this dish!! I'm also not reflecting that in my rating because I'll offer everyone an off night. They nailed it on everything else. There's a room to the side where they'll give your kid food for the koi in the pond outside and that's super cool. I don't know if they'll let adults feed them because someone didn't let me ask. Definitely the #1 Best Chinese in the New Orleans & Northshore area. My favorite eggrolls ever! Other super good dishes include their Tong Cho chicken, pot stickers, hot and sour soup, flaming chicken, beef and broccoli, special fried rice, honey pecan shrimp, shrimp and crabmeat in a cloud. We came here for dinner last night. I have been to the Hammond location years back but I hadn't been to this location before. The grounds outside of the restaurant are beautiful. The place is surrounded by Koi ponds. The Koi in them are colorful and huge. They have pretty flowers like Plumeria around also. We were seated quickly. It was very majestic inside. All kinds of lovely Chinese antiquities and decorations are around. It was very grand. The three of us placed our order and it was all brought out to us in a decent amount of time. They offer a good size menu with all of the typical Cantonese and Szechuan dishes you would expect. They also offer a selection of Louisiana inspired dishes that include Crawfish and Alligator. You can order individually or order the family style meals. All three dishes we ordered were outstanding. The prices are higher here, but after tasting the food, you are paying for quality ingredients. The beef was tender and the chicken and pork were large pieces of white meat. The vegetables were top notch. Each of the sauces were bursting with unique flavor. I haven't had Chinese food this good since maybe about 25 or 30 years ago back in San Francisco or Los Angeles. I did not give five stars because the waitress and people that helped her were not as friendly as we expected. The waitress stayed sour until the very end when it was tip time. A long long time ago, in a galaxy called Mandeville, there was a really good Chinese restaurant called Trey Yuen. It was considered one of the best Chinese restaurants around. WHAT HAPPENED?!? This place is now down right awful. I recently dined with a group of friends at Trey Yuen. We have doing this for years. Our service was just way below par. Soups and appetizers were cold or dried out. Everyone's orders came out wrong and the taste was just not good. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told she was busy. FINE! Keep in mind that Trey Yuen is not a cheap Chinese restaurant, but on the upper price point. I can honestly say I get better Chinese from the local take out joints in the strip shopping center. And at half the cost. Bottom line is I will never go back to Trey Yuen. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Really good. Not as heavy as other Chinese restaurants. We got the potstickers-super good Hot and sour soup- okay, not the worst, not the best BBQ pork fried rice-super good! Trey yuen special steak- super good. Beef was nice and juicy Spicy flaming chicken- presentation was nice since they cook it table side, but flavor was a little weird to me. A little tangy. Came here the other day for lunch. Lunch menu is small. We got the soft shell crab, wonton soup, and a couple spring rolls to split. I'm not a big soup guy, the wonton soup was very good. The spring rolls were just run of the mill. Now the soft shell crab was so good. Crab was cooked perfectly. Plenty bit enough for us to split at lunch. Also the service was solid. I enjoy the food here quite a bit. They definitely have the best steak dishes out of any Chinese restaurant. Think big chunks of tender steak, cooked to a nice medium and not the think strips of beef you're used to. I've had the Ming steak and the house steak, both of which were really good. The dinner for two is also a pretty good deal and come with a lot of options to choose from for the entrees unlike some other Chinese restaurants that give very little choice in that type of offering. read more

Why am I just now finding out about this place?? I don't care for Chinese food in New Orleans. It just doesn't hit home for me. Then came this place. The food is not in a puddle of grease. Some people like that about Chinese food, I get it, but I don't. I don't have to worry about mystery meat gray chicken. An order of general Tso's chicken came out with large chunks of all white meat chicken that was so lightly breaded. The place is pretty. Take a walk around the ponds out front before you go in. First off, I was not a fan of how no Asians work here and that the employees were wearing Asian outfits (like qipaos)... for some reason, it was slightly offensive to me. I come here regularly and this my first review for them here because I guess there's no comparison. Next time I come here I will take pictures for y'all. My favor it is the crab and mushroom in a cloud, it is superb. Our family also love crawfish in lobster sauce. The egg rolls are made here by hand. My favorite soup here is the simple egg drop soup, the best ever anywhere, there is actually chicken meat in it. All in all, like anywhere else. There are some things you like more than others. This used to be the best Chinese food in All of Saint Tammany and Tangipahoa Parish! Have tried to eat there several times in the past 2 years hoping it would be delicious but the food is marginal at best. Gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because the waiters are always attentive. However I will never go back again!!!! Not only was the food about as good as you get in a shopping Mall (actually not even that good, nearly tasteless) but there were numerous fruit flys swarming around our drinks and food. We were sitting in the middle of the dining room on the upper level as you walk in the resteraunt. If they are in the middle of the dining room I'm sure there is an infestation in the kitchen!! I think it's a result poor cleanliness. In case you are wondering, we Had moo shu pork, curry shrimp, vegetable plate. Our favorites from the old days. None of it was good. I called the restaurant to let them know that the duck was not fresh. I would have sent the duck back had I been dining in the restaurant. Unfortunately, it was take out. Best Chinese is the entire metro area. Combination Lo Mein, crawfish and lobster sauce, crab Rangoon, and spicy beef are all classic.
