Out here from California visiting some friends and they said we had to come here. We waited over an hour (due to our party size and the holiday) but I have to say, it was definitely worth the wait!!! We had potstickers, egg rolls, crab Rangoon, green pepper steak, honey pecan chicken, mandarin chicken, general tso chicken, honey shrimp, chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice and pork fried rice. They usually have good Chinese food with some consistency issues and are located in a classic Chinese architectural style building that lends good ambiance to your meal. I've been to both locations of Trey Yuen but this is the location I've visited the most often. Both locations feature rosewood ceilings, carved wall panels, antique furnishings, statues, and artwork as well as inlaid mother of pearl dining chairs. The restaurant is surrounded by gardens, waterfalls, pogodas and koi ponds. The duck sauce is much better than average here and I really like their tong cho sauce. They really do some items better than the majority of the area Chinese restaurants and focus on local products that result in a Chinese fusion style. This is much more like fine dining than any other Chinese restaurant in the area. Trey Yuen is probably your best choice for Chinese on the Northshore. read more

We went to Trey years ago and we were not happy. But we wanted to give it another try and it was fantastic. Unbelievably good we had six different dishes and every dish was successful. We had the lo mein. The fried rice. The special beef a chicken dish and a scallop dish and honestly some of the best food in the area. We loved it. The combination lo mein is not to be missed. I have been coming here since I was a kid! The food never disappoints. The wonton soup and crunchys are great. The tong cho and mandarin chicken are amazing. Always get a Mai Tai for a drink. I miss having the one in Hammond bc it closed down, but I am glad the one in Mandeville is still around. I would be lost if this restaurant ever closed. The drive to Mandeville is well worth it. This is such a beautiful Chinese restaurant! The ambiance is really special and spectacular. We ate so much food and I'm sorry I didn't take pics of any of it because we were too busy eating. The crab Rangoon has REAL CRAB in it!! And let me tell you it makes quite the difference. It's so refreshing to come to a Chinese restaurant that isn't just the basic dishes you usually find. The crab Rangoon is a substantial size plus the added flavor of real crab meat rather than imitation. If you like a more subtle sweetness to your crab Rangoon rather than the super sweet imitation crab taste, you'll love these! We also go the egg drop soup, my husband ate two bowls of it, I couldn't eat any because I'm allergic to eggs :( We also got vegetable spring rolls, and their hot mustard and plum sauces are really good! If you want more thoughtful Chinese American food then you'll like the fresh taste of the dishes and sauces. Our main dishes were curry lamb and crispy duck. They duck was so good! Duck is one of my favorite meats and this duck came with two different sauces and the spicy sauce was amazing! It came partially de-boned and the skin was nice and crispy and the meat was delicious. Wor Sue Opp, get it! The lamb curry has potatoes, carrots, and green peppers and is tender with a not too spicy curry sauce. We really enjoyed all our dishes and tried to leave room for dessert. The pineapple bites were like pineapple cheesecake wrapped in Filo dough. Really nice bite sized dessert when you want something sweet but not too heavy. We wanted to try Chinese food so we decided to stop by after Church. The food was okay. My kids thought the food was good. My husband thought the fried rice was good. There were knats and flies annoying us around the table. We ordered a Arnold Palmer and it was not good at all so just stick with the basic drink list. The restaurant was very full. Service was ok. Where do I begin we went here on Wednesday to support Trey Yuen's. They support our school in New Orleans for our Chef's Charity. The Wong Brothers come and demonstrate there cooking techniques. So as a group of Teachers & Staff came here to support them and to enjoy there amazing food!!! The waiter Dominick was great! After hearing raves from friends for years, we finally made it to Trey Yuen for supper tonight. Nice private parking, very nice grounds & building. Good wait staff. We had Szechuan Beef & Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, with the "dinner for two", including some extras like egg-flower soup & fried egg rolls. I have had consistently good food the few times I have been here. This time my fiancé and I stopped in after a parade, and we ordered the the dinner for two. We got hot and sour soup, Ming steak, combination rice and egg rolls. The steak was so tender and cooked to what looked like a medium on the inside- delicious. The rice was yummy. My husband and I have been going to Trey Yuen for a while now. The food has always been amazing but we went this past Friday for date night and it was terrible. I ordered the cashew chicken and it tasted like something was sour in it. I brought it to the attention of our server but she didn't seem to pay it any mind. They are priced similar to PF Chang's so you expect to get what you pay for. It's a shame because we love this place, but I think this experience has tainted us wanting to go back. read more

We had a Norwegian at work that has never eaten alligator before and wanted to try some before he flew back yesterday evening. Comments from the two with the mushrooms were positive. My Szechuan Alligator was amazing. Served with fried rice and white rice, everyone left full and satisfied. Portions were large enough to have some left over for later. Although none of us were willing to do so. It was just too good to not eat immediately. They were pretty packed for lunch, but our waitress didn't miss a beat. Prompt with everything. this place knows how to handle a lunch crowd that needs to get in out quick. Yes, you can find the same dishes elsewhere for a lower price. But this place serves up some unique dishes with that Louisiana flare that you won't find at the Chinese places without a dining area. Sad to report a below par review of a restaurant that's been around for years. I recently went to dinner on January 13 th with a party of 4 adults and 2 children. Service was the issue. Placed our order, waited a while to get it. Food came out cold. I tried to get the attention of the server and by the time she came around we just went about eating. When you have 2 toddlers you can't take time to have the food sent back and wait for it to come out again. Had the food come out correct the first time I would not have to take time to write the review. My family used to eat at Trey Yuen a few times a month when I was a child, but I hadn't eaten there in years. My husband was craving Chinese food last week so I suggested we get takeout here. I ordered the same thing I used to get back in the 90's (honey pecan shrimp and shrimp fried rice) and it was just as delicious as I remember. One of the most overrated restaurants in the area. Maybe at one time this was the best Chinese restaurant around (since there are few if any good Chinese in the state that may be nothing to begin with). Nonetheless, Trey Yen was know as the real deal, gourmet Chinese and/or the best in the area - but that time has past. They are a cut above a Chinese buffet restaurant and no better that the substandard Chinese american you get throughout most of the US. We had the egg roles and they were not good, soggy,heavy and tasteless, cheap off taste really. I had the eggplant pork. The eggplant was tender and good, the pork OK, but in thin strips that were not tasty. the sauce was oily, heavy, with no subtle pleasing flavor. Friend had the scallop mash up that he said was no good. (why someone orders scallops in a Chinese restaurant is beyond me) Other friend was satisfied with his seafood dish. And get this, they dont even get the rice right! Most chinese restaurants have excellent rice, not sure how they do it but it is delicious and just right. Here it was more like parboiled or 'converted' rice. No stickiness to it at all. Two stars might be generous here. Bottom line is I will not be back. And I am still looking for a decent Chinese restaurant in the area, and pls dont say Five Happiness read more

WOW! This place is so great! I tried the Kung Pao tofu last night for the first time and oh my lord...it was so beyond delicious. The hot and sour soup was on point and the egg rolls were perfectly cooked. I was so impressed with my meal last night and I am really looking forward to going again.
