My review is based on camp and boarding w/camp. We were searching for the right doggy day-camp, so called a few places. I was told there's an evaluation process (which was expected since I had to do this with other potential facilities), and Josh helped answer all my questions! He explained everything clearly and even sent me photos and video of my pup to let me know how he was doing (he settled in nicely and was doing well)! There isn't a time limit for the evaluation, so I kept my pup there all day to let him have the full experience. I've since bought the punchcard which has two options. 10 daycamps for $400 or 20 for $700. We dropped our dog off a few times over summer for day camp, and almost a handful of times we were called just a couple hours after drop off because they had to bring the dogs in due to the heat. We were still charged a full day of camp. I get the full day charge if we leave our dog there all day, but it would've been great if they worked with us to charge half days (prorate it), or give a few extra comp days to compensate if we pick him up right away (which is almost always before 12). One time they noticed he rolled in his own pee while in the kennel, so they offered to give him a complimentary bath which I appreciated! Now onto my boarding experience. First and foremost, the rate for boarding is: $63. The rate for boarding with camp is $87. I signed up for boarding with camp, and asked a few times on different occasions about the charges for boarding with camp (ie. what's the cutoff time that I need to pick him up by, etc) - and was told 12pm. I asked if there was flexibility to pick him up before 3 since I indicated in the application - but the price listed is per day - so if you want your pup to have camp on the day of pickup, that's an extra fee. Multiple people told me in person and over the phone that I "should be ok" because I put it on my application - so I didn't think I'd be charged extra. So watch out for this and your pickup times if you decide to board here. They won't honor what you were told over the phone, and will only reference the contract. Also, if you sign up for boarding with camp, you are billed separately for each of the services, which creates some confusion but the math adds upcorrectly. Our dog ended up with conjunctivitis after his second boarding stay, so we were hit with an unexpected vet bill on top of that. Overall, the hours are convenient and I'm glad we found the right place for our dog, but the customer service / communication aspect for boarding needs improvement. Shoutout to Josh for all you do! Grateful for their inclusion with potentially' difficult' dogs - we have a behavioral challenged dog Mister Burt who can be reactive to other dogs and just 'a lot' as far as energy wise and vibe (lol) They have the Lone Ranger package which is so amazing and appreciated! The staff is all very nice to deal with as well! They also have vet techs on site so if your dog is behind on a vaccine (not sure if they carry all, but they for sure have all bordetella available as well have done that twice) which is amazing! read more

We have been bringing our 7 month old puppy (Clairah Belle) here for a few months now and we couldn't be happier. The staff all know her by name and greet her affectionately. Aryanna, Josh, Cesar, there is so many more to Mae but they know who they are and I thank them everytime i see them! They capture my baby's growth and have the best photo themes! Yes I am that mother yah makes magnets from these photos and gift them to friends and family . Please bring your fur babies here for day care even boarding! Our Hank loved it! Came home super tired and was excited the next day when I dropped him off! My complaints: Staff on the phone great! The guy I spoke with was very helpful and seemed like he really liked his job. Unfortunately my very first visit when we arrived the girl was sitting on the bench on her phone, no one was at the desk. We sat and waited until she could finally be bothered to help us. Strike one for me. Then she just took our baby, didn't introduce herself to him or give us a minute to say bye. She seemed genuinely inconvenienced to help us. Day 2: pretty sure we got the guy I spoke to on the phone. He was fabulous. I asked about a webcam or updates while Hank was there, he said they didn't have a camera but feel free to call. I called and got an update midday. Then pick up basically same inconvenience as prior day. My update at pick up consisted of "he was good." Also he spilled water on himself when she was getting him out so he was wet. We got him in the car and he's full of sand I don't know how since I just washed him two days ago and we haven't been to the beach. And he smells so bad like urine we had to leave all the windows down. read more

We were a little nervous to Board our dog. He's a little rescue, and he's like our little child. Our neighbor recommended The Animal Keeper, and was very happy with it. First off, making the appointment was very easy. The people answering the phones are very kind and helpful. When dropping him off, there's a little form to fill out. The attendant took the dog from us immediately so he wouldn't have to sit in my arms shaking. The whole process of dropping him off went fast without a hitch. We were able to call and check to see how he was doing. Phones were answered quickly and we didn't have to wait long for a reply. When we picked our dog up, he seemed very happy, clean and full of energy. The manager, Rachel is amazing to deal with. Very kind and helpful. We took our 5 month old pup to daycare for the first time yesterday. We ended up needing to board him for the night as well and the staff was super helpful! Boarded my senior dog for 2 weeks. My dog lost 2 kilos in 2 weeks, was given back with poop in her nails and butt, dry pee on her tail and pee around her pee hole. Was not given pain meds because we wrote "as needed", whoever the staff communicated she was restless, seemed uncomfortable and pacing most of the time. I'm newer to the area and have been taking my dog here for about a year. I selected this place based on yelp reviews. The first few times were fine, but the last three visits have been one issue after another. The place is mostly run by younger staff, and unfortunately, a lot of them don't seem interested in their jobs. I've seen several leaning against the walls or sitting on their phones. When you walk in, it's not very welcoming, there have been multiple times where a few people in the font desk area sitting or standing(or on their phones), but not one person greets me or even looks up. I usually have to wait until someone from the back comes out to finally help me. I've also noticed the staff who are supposed to be watching the smaller dogs in the back just sitting in chairs on their phones while the dogs are outside. Their services are advertised as staff actively engaging and playing with the dogs, but that hasn't been what I've seen. The first major issue I had was when my dog came home smelling like urine. I let it go and figured it was a one-time thing. Then another time, I asked for her to attend camp, but when I picked her up, I realized she hadn't gone. This last visit was the worst. The same evening I dropped her off they called to say they "spilled" her food and asked if they could give her something else they had on hand, there was no issue there, I understand accidents happen. Again I requested for her to go to camp during this visit, but she wasn't billed or placed in camp. They had told me she needed a Bordetella when I booked so I submitted her vaccine records at drop off as she was up to date. They had the records pulled up on the computer and said she was good. At pick up they initially charged me for the Bordetella, and when I said she didn't need it, they just removed the charge, which now makes me question whether they actually gave it to her or not. All of these things might seem small on their own, but when it's one issue after another, especially all in a single overnight stay it raises major red flags. I wanted to love this place, but the lack of attention to detail and care has made me lose trust in bringing my dog here again. read more

Took my big grumpy Rottweiler for a nail trim. They ladies in the back were the best! Handled him with professionalism and let me come back to put the muzzle on him. A few nails were still a bit long but it wasn't a big deal. I paid for two dogs nail trim that included a discount of $5 off each. Totaling $30 for both nail trims. I gave $60 and said the rest was for a tip. $30 tip in my book is exceptional on a $30 bill but I wanted to show appreciation to the girls in the back who were all AMAZING! I took my dog, Teddy, to The Animal Keeper in Oceanside for a grooming appointment and was really disappointed in how the situation was handled. I dropped him off, left the facility, and shortly after got a call to come pick him up because the groomer had been in a car accident. I absolutely understand that emergencies happen and I'm glad the groomer is okay. My issue is not the accident itself, but the way the business handled it on the customer side. When I came back, no grooming had been done, and the staff member Andrew: * Did not offer any discount, credit, or goodwill gesture for the inconvenience * Only offered to put me on a waitlist and for another appointment a week later, which would be after Thanksgiving (I had specifically booked this to have Teddy groomed before the holiday) * Told me I would need to wait a full week for the manager to return just to maybe find out if any discount would be approved For a pet business, this felt very dismissive of my time and planning. A simple, "I'm sorry this happened -- let me offer you a discount or a priority appointment as a courtesy," would have gone a long way. Because of how Andrew and the situation were handled, I've decided to take Teddy to another grooming facility. I'm leaving this review so other pet owners know that while emergencies can happen anywhere, the level of customer care and flexibility I experienced here was very disappointing. read more

I have been taking my 12 year old little girl Nellie to animal keeper for some time now and I just took her on Sept 15 2025 and she stayed four nights she played each day with the other little dogs . I had her get a full groom also. Nellie. has always been a little barky toward other dogs but once she gets inside animal keeper she. has a different attitude and is calmer this time I picked her up she was so calm and happy and. even here at home she is very. calm and no barking I am very happy with the animal keeper each time I take Nellie there . the groomer did a great. job with Nellie And I will use her again If you haven't used animal keeper. The Animal Keeper has been my Dobie's go to place for burning energy and playing with friends for almost three years now. From the front desk staff to the camp counselors outdoors - he loves it. I think he has a crush on Aryanna. He goes bonkers when he sees her in the lobby. I always laugh when he gets out in the yard and does a chest bump with some of the camp counselors. Because he loves it so much, I do my due diligence to make sure it is a good place for him. I appreciate the fact that they call when they are going to bring the dogs in due to inclement weather, to include extreme heat. If I have questions, they do their best to answer them. Time for an UPDATE! Our best floofy friend has been coming here since Dec 2015. (Note: We moved away Aug 2018-Aug 2021) There's been *a lot* of turn over in that time (to be expected). One bright spot is JOSH. Also, the camp staff HAS REALLY IMPROVED--LIKE A MILLION TIMES BETTER. More personal/approachable, and honestly the dogs seem to like them far more than the previous (married) couple. **BEST PART IS THEY KNOW MY DOG.** We used to day board her 4-5x/wk; which was rather expensive (about $5k/yr) Living/work situation has since changed and now we take her to overnight boarding as needed, and camp once a week. We purchase a punch card for 10 camps, so I can't recall how much it is--something like $30/day. She can go from 0700-1800, although I take her from about 0800-1530 to avoid the traffic. (Driving tip--try to come in on the North bound side of College during rush hours as crossing College from the center divide can be challenging with the car wash sharing an enter/exit. But note, there's no U-Turn at Marron/College; plan accordingly.) For overnight boarding, pick up is 1200. Otherwise you pay a late pick-up fee. (**I HATE THIS CHANGE WITH A PASSION AS IT IS PURELY GREED!!!**) Food is provided for stays. There is a charge should you bring your own food. There's also a charge for medication dispensing. (I LOATH THIS AS WELL. Like c'mon! STAAAAHP IT.) Grooming/Camp in conjunction with boarding is an option for an additional fee. (THIS I AGREE WITH.) Overall, I am super happy with AK and will literally pay the price for peace of mind. On Dec. 5th, Pricilla took pictures and a video of Charlotte and noticed a slight limp. Although the limp didn't recur, Charlotte had a vet appointment that afternoon. Dr. Kang reviewed the video and found she had a sprained back leg. I'm very thankful that Pricilla texted the video. Otherwise, I might not have noticed the one-time limp. She is awesome! Hello, I recently took my 2 Shih Tzus (Lucy and Linus) for grooming on May 30, 2025. Though, they took all day ( Idropped them off at 8am and they were ready at 5pm), I have to say the groomer did an awesome job. I was really anxious they were taking so long. But really, Lucy and Linus have not ever looked this good. We have been to a few groomers but Animal Keeper is, well, no comparison. This is the place.
