We needed framing, sheetrock, electrical, trim and closets built. Joe was way more responsive than all other contractors and was very reasonable with costs. The price was exactly what he quoted us. (Another contractor was supposed to start before we found Joe and completely ghosted us around the start date.) Lou was the main guy who was here several days and he was great. We felt totally comfortable with him in our home. Our 4 year old son kept asking where Lou was after the project was completed. Lou worked around us when it came to hours that worked best for our family. Our kids love their bedrooms. And our 4 year old son finally sleeps in his own bed. We will be calling Joe when we are ready to remodel our kitchen and bathrooms.

DISASTER. Turn and run. We hired Joe for a large 203K project. We had problems from the very…read morebeginning: he was slow to start, kept changing his mind about the game plan, complained about the fact that he could get no money up front--terms of the 203K that he had of course agreed to--and pressured us to give him significant up-front money to "help him start". He instructed me in June of 2024 to rush to buy materials for a small bathroom that was still mostly unfinished in April of 2025; that kind of thing happened multiple times. His workers were inadequately supervised, and he was difficult to reach, often saying things like I'm at a kid's soccer game, out to dinner with my daughter, etc. The way that 203K's work is that HUD inspectors come out at regular intervals to make sure that adequate work has been done to make a draw from the total budget. Joe did a bunch of stuff merely to look busy to justify the first draw, in August: a slap-dash exterior paint job over crumbling paint that made a mess and did not hold, for instance. Between the first and the second draw, there was slow but meaningful progress--but by then we were 5 months into a job that we were told would take 4-6 months, and nowhere near done. During much of that 3-month interval he had just one guy working on our huge project, an electrician. After the second draw, in late November, he basically just stopped working on the house. We were making double housing payments the whole time, of course, so we panicked. We were almost out of money. After numerous calls and messages failed to get him to pick up the pace, at the urging of our lender, we scheduled a third draw, 3 months after the second one. At that draw, the HUD inspector certified that no work had been done, so no funds would be paid out. That's when we finally worked up the nerve to fire him. It was terrifying, because our lender told us that we would have trouble getting anyone to take on such a large project with only what was left in the budget after Joe depleted it. By the grace of God, we did find one. He swept in and got the job done in about 4 months. We finally moved in almost exactly one year after closing. Of course we had two mortgage payments the whole time. The work could have been finished within 6 months, or close to it, if we had found a great contractor like the one we found after we fired Mr. Depiano. Working with Mr. Depiano was harrowing. We were newbs at this, and therefore easy to fool. DON'T MAKE OUR MISTAKE.

I have already laid out what our experience…read morewas with him, the subsequent issues of that work, and what other contractors have told us since we have had others in to actually resolve the core/root problem we were having and feel it's no longer productive to belabor this aspect. However, the true issue here is the picture John has decided to paint of us, which is the reason why I have chosen to write this update just for further context for others considering working with him. To clarify what John describes as "nightmare" behavior. As he says we did not reside at the residence yet so obviously someone had to let him in to do the work. I'm not sure why he believes we were not on time- that's how we knew he was always late sometimes to the point of having to reschedule because we would be waiting for him at the house first. I do not know what difficulty he is describing contacting us and getting into the house when we have frequent text messages and outreach confirming our meeting times with him. Additionally the "late" payment he is referring to occurred over the 4th of July holiday weekend in which he gave us no exact time estimate when he'd be done; we were out with friends and not checking our phones but he messaged us at 5:45PM and we paid at 8:26PM, the very same day with apologies of the inconvience caused by the few hours delay when we had a spare moment to send payment while out. I'm happy he's brought up our text conversations as that is at least one thing I am very much in agreement with. We were nothing short of respectful and cordial in our exchanges with him and thanked him for coming out to do the work repeatedly and I would also gladly show anyone the conversation history and very much stand by the courtesy and understanding we treated him with when he asked for schedule flexibility in arrival times and more. Minus the 4th of July message delay because of us being out of town, we were prompt with responses as well which our texts would show. We also initially reached out privately via email first to try to resolve this directly with John before writing this review. It's one thing for business owner and client to disagree on an experience however I strongly feel the way John painted us as clients is highly inaccurate and upsetting.

We were scheduled for a roof replacement, new gutters, and masonry repairs. All the work was completed within two weeks. Lane did everything they said they would and on the schedule they provided. To be sure, this was the least stressful construction/contractor relationship I've ever experienced. The final cost matched the estimate. Throughout the entire process, Lane communicated everything - when they were starting, who was showing up, and how long the work would take. They cleaned up every day. For perspective, our roof is a nightmare with some very steep pitches, multiple dormers, and a chimney running through the middle of the roof. The last time we replaced the roof, the contractor took over a month to complete the job. Lane completed the roof in less than a day. To be sure, Lane was the least stressful construction/contractor relationship I've ever experienced.

Jim and Andrea were the last company to give us a quote for a fairly complex floor refinish/install and thank goodness for our perseverance. Our pre-finished builder grade Bruce hardwood had a pretty good bevel, multiple spots on the floors were worn through the finish from previous owners' dogs, there was some inconsistency with the install that occurred 20 years ago when the house was built, not to mention water damage and we wanted to add hardwood where there was carpet in the family room. We were beginning to lose hope with previous 4 quotes ranging from "we can do it, but..." to a disheartening quote from a well known local company that is considered high standard in this area. I'll name drop simply because others feel compelled to name drop on their critical reviews. My quote from Ziggy's consisted of Ziggy wandering into my open garage and knocking not at my front door, but at my garage door. It was him coming in and basically saying I can't do anything you're asking for. He said, "you can't sand that bevel out, you'll end up with uneven finish and splinters, it will splinter. I've been doing this for 30 years and I teach this stuff. You can't sand out that bevel." He said this even as the other three quotes to this point indicated it was absolutely possible. "You won't be able to make the new floors look like they belong with the old floors." Also not true. Aside from spending half of the quote touting his credentials, Ziggy was also very dismissive of anything we had in mind and simply told us what he envisioned with our floors; it felt as though he didn't listen at all and was only quoting us for what he was willing to do. 10 min after his arrival, he was gone and we were on to the next...we were frustrated because we were being told by one professional who had good ratings that it was impossible to complete this job and then by three other companies that they wouldn't be able to do what we were asking...but could do it half ass for x amount. Boy, were they ALL wrong. Jim and Andrea came into our home with a keen eye and plenty of recommendations for a perfect finish and they quoted us to ensure the floor was done correctly. They were here for about 45 minutes to really get a feel for what it was we wanted to accomplish and to visualize it with us. It wasn't a matter of IF we wanted it done correctly or knew enough to ensure we asked about having it done correctly, they simply said "we can do anything you want, but this is how you do what you're asking for." They were very reassuring that our situation was not unique as others had made us feel. Jim, who I learned is a MASTER in his field and actively trains his peers (he received multiple phone calls while on our job from other flooring professionals with text pictures asking how he would properly complete a job and he even lent tools to another peer who had a tool break in the field) in this field, not simply high school wood shop. He did a GREAT job explaining the process both before and during the refinishing/install process. I also found that although he doesn't like to brag about his education and training, he has more cumulative hours on very specific finishing methods than most do on flooring in general (upwards of 16k hours). Couple all of this expertise with the fact that we didn't have to move out of our house for a week or more and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our floors have been finished for over a month now and I have recommended Jim and Andrea by mouth to close friends in the market for floor refinishing. It took them coming over once to see our floors to convince them to give Jim and Andrea a call. If you're getting frustrated with quotes that you've been given or you've had a bad experience with a nightmare refinish, give them a call! I can't recommend them highly enough. See before and afters below (no splinters and the shadow lines prove it's perfectly even!).

A Complete Tear Down and a Complete Transformation…read more This was my second project with Martin's Home Improvement and they exceeded my expectations AGAIN. This wasn't a simple remodel. My home is older, and once demolition began, it became clear that even the studs had to be removed. This turned into a complete tear down. Everything had to be rebuilt and re-leveled from the ground up. Watching the process, I truly realized how much structural knowledge and skill this project required. Tom literally rebuilt the space. He leveled everything properly and created a solid, beautiful foundation before a single finish went in. That alone gave me tremendous confidence. And then came the artistry. The floor-to-ceiling marbled porcelain tile is absolutely stunning. The tilers are true craftsmen -- their design, alignment, and placement are flawless. The shower is custom designed with a perfectly tiled floor, a coordinating niche backsplash, and a built-in seat that looks like it was meant to be there all along. The unique floating sink, elegant toilet, gorgeous lighting, perfectly matched mirror, and beautifully finished linen closet shelving all come together in a space that feels high-end, thoughtful, and completely custom. Tom needs to be cloned. His structural expertise, attention to detail, and vision are remarkable. Tom's craftsmanship is unmatched. This project could have been overwhelming given the age of my home and the scope of the rebuild -- but instead, it was handled with confidence, skill, and professionalism. All I can say is wow.
