My wife and I have been going to Club4 in McKinney three to four times a week for over nine months…read more I can only speak to our experience with the club, and what we've seen since we've been a member. We were signed up by Barrett, who's since been promoted to general manager of the location. We speak to him almost every time we come into the club, and he's always warm and welcoming. The rest of the staff has also been very warm. Early in our membership, we were pitched a personal training program by Brady, the manager of personal training at the club. While his proposal was impressive, and we believe Brady and his staff of trainers are excellent at what they do (we see them often when at the club), we decided to go in a different direction and train outside the club with the daughter of a friend who's starting her own private training business. This shouldn't be taken as a knock on Club4 or their offerings at all - I'd urge new members to speak to Brady and his staff and consider their offerings. The club itself is always clean and well lit, but a disclaimer here: We don't use the locker rooms except to use the bathroom since we live nearby and can change and shower at home. The bathrooms themselves are fine and have always been clean and well stocked. The exercise area itself features a wide array of gear, with free weights, dumbbells, barbells, traditional weight machines with the big round weights, and our favorites, the more modern machines where one sets the weight with a metal pin in a stack of weights. They're easy to setup, and there's an app that can be used to track progress and save the settings of the machine, so it can be setup the same way each time. There are also a ton of cardio machines, including treadmills, stairclimbers, ellipticals, and other machines. There are spin bike classes in a separate room, and members can use the bikes individually when there's not a class. There are plenty of matts for floor work. Basically, there's all the gear you need, really. When your workout is done, there are the wonderful Hydromassage chairs, which we use after every workout. There are only three of them, so sometimes there's a wait, but not usually too long. The location in Plano has four machines, but it's a bigger club and probably has more members coming in on a daily basis. Having said all of these glowing things, and despite the five star review, there are some things I'd like to see improved. Number one for me is getting the rep counter/timers on the Life Fitness machines fixed. There are three or four of the machines that I use almost every time that have non-functional counters, probably just because the batteries are dead. I've mentioned it to the staff, but the issue remains. Also, broken machines, while not common, sometimes seem to take a bit to get fixed. But I stress, this is only a minor inconvenience, as there are plenty of machines to use. All in all, we enjoy our workouts at Club4, and I'm sad to see the bad reviews here; I don't feel that the experience warrants them, personally. We're in the club very regularly and have not encountered rude staff or widespread issues with the gear. We enjoy our membership and are seeing the results from our workouts when we look in the mirror!

The facility itself may be fine, but in my experience, I felt argued with and not respected as a potential client because I asked questions. Glad I found out the culture here before signing up.

I see some of the trainers push around a mini dust buster or use dirty, dust coated dusters pushing around more dust and dirt, but I've never seen anything be sanitized or any cleaning products come out. The corners of the gym and the bottom of every machine are coated in dirt and dust. The sign in desk is always coated in a layer of dust. They don't even bother to turn on the fans anymore because they are so dusty. I mean COATED. Speaking of fans, it's always boiling hot in there. It's uncomfortable. They need to spend a little money and have the place professionally cleaned minimum once a week. All other gyms I've belonged to hired DAILY cleaners. I don't think once a week, especially when they're only open 6 days, in a building where people sweat and touch things all day, is asking too much. They also need to get rid of their (basically empty) glade plug ins. Somehow the gym rarely smells, which is great, but those plug ins emit VOCs and are terrible for your lungs. That's the last thing you need to worry about in a gym where breathing is key. And crank up the AC year round. I know it's expensive, but that's the nature of the business. I wish they had a few more machines, but for the size of the place they have a nice set up. It could be a great little neighborhood gym. I enjoy going, I'm just always worried about getting overheated or sick. They have a good thing going here. Everyone is nice and respectful. Just needs some TLC.

In addition to the treadmill for 45 minutes, I am also working out with weights. Jonathon is a very methodical trainer. We get a lot done in those 30 minutes of weight training. Jonathon is an excellent communicator. He enjoys talking and making sure that your form is on par. He genuinely cares about his clients. The gym is very adequately furnished. The price of membership is very reasonable. I believe it is only $20 per month. There are no children allowed in the facility. I will continue to come here six days a week and train. Since starting, I have lost over 60 pounds.

In particular, as a customer of the Allen Spa I have never understood why the spa did not have it's own bathroom facility. Massages, facials, and hair appointments frequently take a while. It is reasonable that someone would want to use the restroom before, during or after a service. The idea that you have to walk across the entire facility to the locker rooms for their 5 aged and sad looking stalls in the ladies locker room seemed ridiculous and potentially embarrassing. So the "brilliant" answer was using the much closer "family" bathroom in the "family" locker room. That was workable, but certainly not a great answer. And now they have decided that Spa clients are no longer allowed to use the "family" bathroom. I do not know the real reasons why, but I assume it has something to do with not being a "family." Locked out! So we are now fully expected to trek our foiled, caped and oily bodies across the very large and very public facility to those previously mentioned locker rooms. I know of no country club that would expect its members to parade around in such a manner, nor inconvenience their hard working stylists and therapists with a bathroom so very far away. I really wish the Lifetime would fix this situation. It makes visiting the Spa stressful rather than Zenlike and peaceful....which is how a spa should feel.

The workouts here are versatile and use the accessories in a manner that flows well and doesn't feel forced. The instructors give good cues and always give instructions for lighter or more challenging options. This is a great gym for any time of the day workouts. There are a few treadmills, stair climbers, cardio machines to the right when you walk in. The turf is massive and they have wonderful strength equipment. The locker room is clean and pristine!! They also have amenities and showers if you are booking it to work after. If more up close and personal training is what you are looking for they have that and it is a low key environment so you get the 411 and the lay of the land. I enjoy having this as an option when I want to do my own thing. If you are self sufficient in the gym this will be your vibe. There are boxing classes too in the early mornings and after work.
