Mike recently did an LED can and LED pendant light installation for our condo. Mike is very knowledgeable (especially about leading LED lighting products and considerations), he is extremely responsive, works very efficiently and is very easy to do business with. The kitchen and family room did not have attic access and Mike used surgical precision when installing the recessed lighting with minimal invasiveness to the dry wall. He also anticipated the potential for issues between the drivers for the two different LED products we were installing and designed the install with a Plan B up-front, if we needed to put the lights on two separate switches down the road. We ran into an issue with the LED pendant lights after installation which was causing some electrical humming and light flickering, but Mike quickly figured out the need for a different dimmer switch, which solved the problem immediately. In addition, we used Mike to run the wires needed for a wall mounted TV that we were putting into the family room. He did a great job on this as well. His experience suggested we were planning on installing the TV too high and he was right. Mike has very high standards for the quality of products and services that he uses and it shows in the work he produces. Let me start by saying Mike was AWESOME! My upstairs power went out over the 4th of July holiday weekend. I researched electricians near me and called about four different places. Not only did Mike respond almost immediately, but he also came by the same day, which was a Sunday. The issue was minor and didn't require any repairs, but he didn't charge anything even for the service call or his time. He even followed up the next day to make sure everything was still working ok. That said, the other three vendors never returned my call and I have yet to hear from them. I'm a firm believer in networking and word of mouth, so if another incident comes up or someone I know needs an electrician, I will definitely send them to Tri-Phase Electric. Sent out a few requests to local electricians on a Sunday for recessed lighting installation and Mike called me within the hour and came by to scope the project that afternoon. Mike was very responsive and great communications throughout the whole project. Mike does know about LED lights and provided a competitive quote for install 6 new lights + replacing 13 incandescent lights with LED single units. When Mike arrive, he discovered the old cans were square instead of round and the CREE lights would not work. However, Mike knew right away some options and we went with another light option that could fit. With a couple of calls, Mike's light supplier personally drove the new lights to my house (thanks Tal @ Lite Line Illuminations!). During installation, Mike was able install the new wiring without cutting any drywall, a big plus, no need to follow up with drywall fixing. Then it was on to replacing lights on a 19' ceiling. There were a couple of hard to get to lights and with some great acrobatic and balancing skills, Mike was able to replace the old lights. Overall, a great job and satisfied with the lights; looks really clean and great lights. read more

We needed to upgrade the lighting in our office from fluorescent bulbs to LEDs. After searching Yelp and calling numerous places to find that most electricians were not qualified to work on commercial properties, we found Mike. He was responsive and came in for an estimate quickly. Mike's estimate was half the price of the other we received so we decided to move forward. There were some delays in obtaining the specific LED bulbs we wanted, but that was not Mike's fault. When the bulbs finally arrived, he installed them throughout our entire office in two days. We are extremely happy with the results! LED bulbs are brighter and whiter, which is exactly what we wanted. And though the bulbs were costly initially, we will save in energy costs in the long run. After struggling to find someone who could help fix this issue I ran across Tri-Phase Electric's yelp page. We needed a new Chargepoint 32-Amp EV charger system installed after our 16-Amp unit died. We requested quotes from four vendors and Mike was the only one that stopped by to look at what we needed. He determined that part of our old installation could be reused and so his quote was half of the next highest quote. Mike installed the device on a Sunday morning and it works great. I wanted to install recessed lighting in my house and consulted Yelp. I contacted Mike via email and he quickly responded. His rates were far more reasonable than other estimates so we set up an appointment to meet at the house. During the appointment he educated us about the efficiency and longevity of LED lights and even demo-ed by converting one of our existing can lights to show us how bright they were. We initially wanted recessed lighting in one room and center light fixtures in a few bedrooms but when we saw how beautiful and how updated our house looked after the installs, we immediately wanted more and ended up installing recessed lighting throughout our whole house! Mike installed LED cans in our main living room that has 20 foot ceilings and they significantly brighten the room! He even helped us convert our existing can lights to LEDs, changed our bathroom fans, installed dimmers, and installed a floodlight in our backyard. Unfortunately the install days landed on a 90+ degree heat wave week but Mike was very efficient and was still friendly and upbeat. He also recommended us to Dan Pena drywall and also helped us coordinate with him to ensure the drywall was patched up quickly after the lighting installs. We needed to upgrade all our recessed lights to LED and change up a few things and were looking for someone who could help us with this. Mike impressed us with his extensive knowledge on LED lighting, latest dimmer tech including remote controlled dimmers and what to look for when choosing the perfect light. We felt very comfortable moving forward with him. On the first day he showed up with all the goodies - beautiful new Cree lights, remote dimmers and got to work. His employee Gino was also very nice and both were very easy to work with. They were respectful of our space as we are living in the house while the work was ongoing. It took three phone calls to get him to come to the house to give us a quote. He arrived on-time and was very professional asking questions to come up with his estimate. Only problem was four days later he still hadn't provided the estimate. Finally when he returned my call he said his phone erased the data. I still need an electrician so I give him all the information over the phone and he thanks me for sticking with him and promises to get the quote to me that evening. I was referred to Mike at Tri-phase by a lamp store for the commericial indoor lighting project in our facility which had about 1700 fluorescent light bulbs to be replaced by about 1000 LED bulbs at the end. Mike did an excellent job with very reasonable price. I highly recommend Mike without reservation. I like Mike's experience and qualification shown during the on-site visit so I asked him to match one lowest bid I had. Mike didn't match exactly but lowered his quote that was accepted. During the course of the project, Mike patiently wholehearted met our different demands which were changing all the time, professionally unbiased advised us on the type of LED bulbs and emergency light rebuild kit for commercial building, installed new LED bulbs for different kinds of fixture/wiring some of which have emergency lighting (this demonstrated his electrician expertise), advised us and found a cheapest recycle shop for us--as you can imaging we could not simply dumped 1700 bulbs--, and took all those fluorescent light bulbs to the recycle which he didn't ask for but I voluntarily paid for his extra service. About half-way in the project, it was obvious to Mike and me that Mike and his partner spent more time than his quote, Mike once mentioned he would loss money on this project but didn't ask for renegotiation and still took his time to finish the job professionally. I appreciated and tried to compensate some by adding two new smaller jobs which I think were still far less to compensate. I have read Yelp reviews for a long time but this is the first time I write a Yelp review--I think I owe Mike this review and it is overdue. read more

I just bought a house in Santa Cruz and the people who I had bought it from thought it was a great idea to convert the garage to another bedroom. Not for me so i ripped it out and put it back into a garage. When I did it I had a lot of wiring that didn't work. I don't know anything about wiring or electricity at all so got on yelp and read some reviews. Tri-phase had great reviews and another electric co. I called them both out and Mike and I hit it off very well. The other co. would even quote me a ball park. Mike came in told me what he thought it would be. I thought the price was very fair and he seamed really honest. He went ahead and did the work. It looked very clean and well looked like he takes pride in what he does. I think he said he had been doing it for something like 20 years or so. When he was all done he was less than what he ball parked me. Who does that. He impressed me and I know he wasn't just doing it just this one time. Obviously you can tell I'm impressed.
