I was having a strange power fluctuation issue on some circuits at a home I'm renting. The owners contacted California Power & Light, who were able to fit the service call in at the end of the day. Henry investigated the subpanel and then worked with us to re-create the fluctuations so that he could diagnose the problem. This was above and beyond compared to another vendor who came out a couple weeks before. Upon investigating the main panel, Henry discovered that the phase-A splice was corroded and burned at the riser. He recommended PG&E replace that and then call him back if that didn't remedy the problem. PG&E came out that night and replaced the splices, fixing the issue - although PG&E initially said they tested good. Henry was able to tell us exactly what to say to PG&E to not only get them to come out promptly, but to actually investigate and ultimately repair the issue. I called Henry around 5 am, and he answered the call. I had a semi emergency and asked him to come by and help check out around 6:30 am, and he said sure. I had some issue with flickering lights since shelter in place, lights dim when microwave is a on, and we can hear sizzling sound and power went out when the dryer is on. Henry helped identify the issue and replaced the main and sub panel. His price is almost half of the other bigger company that I checked out the previous day. And his work is of top quality. Henry is sharp and analyzes problems logically. He always explains to you what's his thinking, why he wants to take some actions, etc. He identified issues and some burning signs in the panel (which is probably more than 40 years old). He also checked various lines and wiring to see if the problem could be PG&E related. Eventually, he and his helpful coworker replaced the panels within a few hours, and the flickering lights and weak electricity problem was gone ever since. In addition, Henry is very well connected given his almost 30 years of experience in the industry. He knows the supervisor who's in charge of the city permit and can sort things out quickly; he recommended a stucco guy who helped repair the external wall and did a good job with reasonable price; he also recommended an HVAC guy (lots of my appliances are unfortunately broken down at the worst time) who helped check out my AC and gave a quite reasonable quote (compared to the bigger company mentioned earlier). In general, Henry is very resourceful and can be very much trusted and relied on. I really appreciate his help with my emergency. I would definitively call Henry for any future electricity issues or other types of issues (just in case he has some good referrals), and would highly recommend him to anyone who's looking for a 'primary' electrician :) read more

We had an old panel that needed a replacement for a long time. Henry did a great job sharing the quote and getting the whole permitting process to get the installation completed. On the installation day, Henry had a personal emergency, and his crew showed up. They did a decent job but conveniently left a hole on my roof. I noticed it while they were waiting for the city inspector to show up. They said it was a new panel, and it had a different alignment. I need to get my roofing contractor to fix this. It wasn't comforting to hear such an explanation. Funnily they took a metal plate and nailed it to hide the whole. Neither the city inspector nor the pg&e person noticed anything wrong. The crew also forgot to label the furnace. Which they returned did the next day. Then came the rain, and I found my roof leaking and water going inside the panel. I called a roofing contractor to fix the problem, and thankfully, there wasn't much damage inside the house. I may still need to repaint the interior of the house and fix some open cracks left by hammering. The stucco person did fantastic work. Overall I am a bit disappointed. If Henry were physically here, it would have been a better experience. So if any of you are upgrading panel, please do close attention to the roof. read more

Only reason we knew about California Power & Light is that we needed a new Electrical Panel Box as we are upgrading our home with Solar Panels through Future Energy. Our old panel was 100 watts and was the same old panel since the house was built way back then and the same panel when we moved in 3 years ago! Our new Panel is now 200 watts with room to grow. Doug and Henry are friendly, knowledgeable and takes pride and quality back it up behind their work they do. Carefully making sure that there are no short cuts and that things are done beyond code. These guys take their work very serious and it's very rare to see a company or even a person do things right the first time. Let me put this way, they arrived promptly at 8AM began the tear down and removed as much stucco to get the new Panel Box in! (my two year old slept thru all the pounding and wall demo I kid you not and was even smiling in her sleep). By 1:30PM the panel was up and lines and switches were all installed. Henry left to check up on another job, Doug went to finish somethings in the crawl space, SJ Inspector arrived between 1:30-2PM gave the go ahead and was off to another site. 2:30PM PGE arrived to make the final inspection cycled the power to house and I had power by 3:00PM! They clean up after each job and it showed! Henry was also quick and friendly to point where some areas were not up to code (previous owner ran some lighting to side of the house and the box was not waterproof and one of the other pointers was not even related to electrical! it was plumbing!) I have used this company in the past and was really happy with the straightforward way they deal with their customers. I received a return call very shortly after my initial call and I got an appointment for the following week. The fans I had needed to be installed in rooms with 17' cathedral ceilings, so they had to run power to both places. They did and excellent job in both locations, no unnecessary damage or mess. Henry was able to work to fit my schedule for upgrading my service panel to 200A earlier this summer. He was willing to give a quote remotely when I was shopping around and stuck to it. I see there are a lot of 5 stars reviews here. He probably does some decent works for those guys. I am telling you my experience with Henry. Portions of lights on the same circuit breaker went out, including a ceiling fan. I was hoping to find an electrician to assess what the problem might be and attempt to repair for me. To be fair, he came on time. Upon arrival, he told me it's $120 instead of the $90 he told me over phone two days ago. He started putting his detector around each of the breakers in my power panel. Somehow for some reason, the lights just came on. That was about 5 minutes. Then he started preaching he had "temporarily fixed" my problem, but the bigger and real problem is my outdated Zinsco panel. To do a complete replace, he needs to work with PG&E and the city, the total cost is $2500. He then charged me $120 for the "diagnosis". Two hours later, the lights failed to turn on again, I wanted to have him back, he said if I wanted to have him back for a "troubleshoot", it is $450. Again, to be fair, he did say the $120 I paid can be applied to the $450. Throughout his service, he did not even bother to troubleshoot at all. He did not even open wall switch box of the problem lights to measure voltage, or listen to me describe the symptoms I observed; rather he spent time telling me my panel is old (sure, of course I know), and stated in Marin county, it is illegal to have this kind of Zinsco panel because of fire hazard, then urged me to go online to see the complaints on Zinsco panel. Again, to be fair, he said I should get bids from other electrician and see how much it cost to replace, which implied he did not force me to get the work done by him. Well, I would rather have him spend the one hour to really troubleshoot my problem, just like another electrician did later. I had Dale Aimers came over and fixed my problem. It was a wire nut in the ceiling fan box that went loose. I complained to him, I told him I was not happy to pay $120 for virtually nothing done. I suggested $50 for his time and gas, he agreed, and refunded me $70 dollars, he agreed to my term, that was a star added. read more

Dryer wasn't heating and appliance repairman told me the problem wasn't the dryer, it was an electrical issue. Electrician from CP&L came out and checked the circuits (they were fine) and also determined that there was no visible heat damage to the power cord. He said that the repairman was wrong and the problem wasn't electrical. He recommended a licensed appliance repair company and I contacted them and they fixed the issue, which was a sensor in the dryer. Appreciate the electrician's checking things and also giving me a good recommendation for appliance repair. read more

The light above our kitchen sink burnt out. Yesterday I tried to replace the bulb and ended up accidently pulling the light fixture out of the ceiling trying to get to the bulb. I called Henry this morning and he said he could send someone out today. Mike came out early this afternoon and did a great job fixing my mess.
