Changed stars from a 2 to a 4. 3/13-deployed to Amarillo from 2/27-3/12/2024 to support those impacted by the very recent wildfires. On my day off, I visited the Native American Heritage Center and gift shop. The museum is wonderful and has multiple rooms and open spaces filled with artists works, collections of all things Native. Well worth the stop and give the displays as much time as you can. BEWARE of the gift shop. They offer great merchandise including used books, handmade item, custom jewelry, etc. I bought several items, one being a pair of earrings tagged $36 and in a glass display case that was clearly marked 40% off. The clerk of Norwegian background confirmed the earrings were indeed 40% off. I bought them, postcards, and a beaded hair barrette. Returned to my room only to discover I received not a 40% discount but a 25% discount! I called during posted open hours over 2 days, leaving a voice message each time. I never had another day off to stop at museum before returning home. Still have not heard back about the error made, nor seen a correction made to my credit card.

This is a great little Museum with lots of artifacts, relics and artwork on display. There are…read moremultiple little rooms so you have to wander around quite a bit to make sure you see everything. When I first walked in I was a little bit intimidated because I ended up in a small Auditorium type room where a group of young people were learning native dancing. There was an older man and young boy up on the stage slowly beating the drum beat on huge drums with a wonderful sound and probably 20 or so children and teenagers listening as he called out the moves they should make to the beat, kind of like a square dance caller would tell the dancers what moves to make. I sat and watched this for a while and enjoyed it. As I was looking around I saw a doorway that said entrance so I eventually walked over to it. There were three ladies talking just inside the entrance and I asked them if I was going the right way. They gave me a few quick directions and told me to enjoy looking. First I went into the little gift shop just to see what they had which was actually quite a bit in the way of jewelry, handmade items, Indian related gift items, better quality stuff than you see in a cheap tourist store. They had a wide selection of beads for sale also for people who were into doing their own beading. No one bothered me as I looked around and they seem to all know each other and enjoy visiting with each other. I'm sure if I'd had any questions someone would have been happy to answer. In the other rooms there were displays of beaded items, moccasins, Indian clothing, headdresses, Buffalo and deer heads and skins, old photographs from the area, dioramas of cliff dwellings, Papoose carriers, weapons, and historical information regarding the various tribes of the area and of the country as a whole. See my photos for a sampling but they just scratch the surface of what there was to see. I probably spent about an hour wandering around looking and reading. In one room there was some crafting going on of people working on beading. One person appeared to be making jewelry and others were working on beaded clothing. It was interesting to watch them for a few minutes. One whole wall was devoted to photos of young men from the area who had qualified as Eagle Boy Scouts. As a strong supporter of scouting through the school years myself I enjoyed looking through those. As a side note, it looks like they are preparing to expand the building according to a sign I saw as I was walking in. They seem to be very involved in activities not just displays so I look forward to coming back another time and seeing the progress they have made. Also I should mention there is a decent parking lot with not a far walk to the entrance. If you happen to be in Amarillo on one of the days this museum is open be sure to stop in and check it out if you are interested in the native heritage of the area. I thought it was well worth the time. I don't know about the summer hours but I'm sure their website tells what they are. In the winter they are only open from 1 to 5 p.m. on the weekends.

Words of warning to anyone that is a current season ticket holder, or considering to be one. I was…read morelooking over my bank account and noticed a $600 charge from the Sod Poodles. I reached out to my season ticket rep and he started spouting off "fees this and cancellation charges that" at which point I tell him that I have no idea what he is talking about. He proceeds to discuss an old contract that I am no longer under and how they "could have" charged me more but did me a favor and charged me less. When I go to point out that the current contract I am in doesn't state anything about these fees, I am ghosted for a few days. Then I get an email from Jeff Turner, assistant gm, that starts talking more about an old contract and how they are giving me benefits of loyalty by not charging me all the money they "could have" charged me. Regardless of any of that, I point out that in my current contract, the very last line (which is bolded and larger than the standard font) actually says that they WILL NOT charge my bank account any additional fees other than those that are listed on said contract. Well that $600 is no where on that contract. After I sent that email, I have received ZERO response from Mr. Turner, and that was almost 2 weeks ago. I have sent numerous emails asking for follow-up and I even reached out to my rep and all I got back was "Mr. Turner has had a busy week" and that he would "personally go check" with Mr. Turner and make sure I hear something back. Well that still hasn't happened. So only thing I can do now is to keep attempting to contact them, perhaps put in a fraudulant charge claim with my bank and also warn all of you guys too. I guess the way they figured they can start paying off the stadium more is to randomly/secretly charge people unknown fees and then just ignore customers when they call about them. So, like I said, check those bank accounts for any fraudulant charges from the Sod Poodles and make sure to warn you family/friends if they are considering getting season tickets.
