I was originally referred by my dentist to a different Endodontist nearby however this particular office unfortunately didn't accept my dental insurance, the doctor was also away for vacation and the next earliest available time for consultation appt (no treatment) wasn't until May 17th despite mentioning I was in pain (toothache). After talking to my husband for other options, he remembered his own experience he had with Tri-Valley Endodontics office here in Pleasanton, he had nothing, but positive feedbacks and suggested I get a referral for this particular Endodontist office from our regular dentist and so here I am. Just like my husband, I have nothing, but positive outcome/feedback as well. In my case, .. about 20 yrs ago, the questioned tooth went through a root canal treatment + crown. From then to now, bacteria managed to slip through which caused painful toothache (sharp pain followed by throbbing) when I ate soup (broth). I right away called Tri-Valley Endodontics office after seeing my regular dentist. Nothing showed up on their X-rays. When tapping on several teeth, the pain always came from the questioned tooth. The front desk scheduled me in for an early appt, which during this phone call I learned Tri-Valley Endodontics does both consultation + treatment on the same day. I was expecting I had to reschedule a separate appt for treatment, but this office does both during your 1st appt. My husband was seen by a different doctor and I was seen by Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim was very thorough by giving me options, she explained everything and any questions I had she answered so patiently. Just in general, every patient case is different so everyone individually will have different outcomes. I also didn't know you can still experience pain even though I had a root canal treatment done many years ago. Even my regular dentist thought it was strange I would feel pain from a tooth I had done a root canal previously. I remember telling Dr. Kim and she mentioned I still have surrounding nerves so when bacteria got into my questioned tooth explains well why I was feeling pain. Before drilling, Dr. Kim also took time to make sure the pain was coming from the questioned tooth and not from a different tooth. X-ray, again, didn't show anything, she tapped my tooth, I felt pain/tender and she also placed cold sensation, but was told she didn't place the cold air on the questioned tooth. I was going to ask a question regarding that, but I didn't. I just knew the pain was coming from the questioned tooth. Dr. Kim basically went into my tooth, drilled a hole, took out the old root filling even though it was perfectly fine, but because bacteria got into my tooth she placed medicine inside the canals followed by a temporarily seal. Due to time conflict on my end I went back to Dr. Kim about 2 weeks later. Enough time to see how well my tooth would heal. My toothache continued to last for 3-4 days after my 1st appt, but as time went by as the medicine kicked in + taking OTC as instructed helped me get rid of the toothache I initially had. It's been 2 days after Dr. Kim went back in, replaced the medicine with new root canal filling + build up + permanently sealing my tooth I've been able to eat just fine. No pain at all. Dr. Kim and her office staff were all friendly, caring, I didn't feel rushed or anything like that. Dr. Kim's assistant took several X-rays (before, during and after). Like I said, "My experience with Tri-Valley Endodontics Pleasanton location was nothing, but positive and this office accepted my dental insurance." Thank You, Dr. Kim and office staff. FYI - new patients - bathrooms are located next to the elevator and make sure you grab the right key. I didn't know, I took the wrong key (men's) so explains why I struggled trying to open the women's bathroom. lol read more

Although Dr Nguyen did a good job, they have big problems with the financial part. All other doctors, dentists and healthcare providers that I deal with will bill the insurance first, and then bill the patient for anything left. This office is very unethical. They insisted on getting 80% of the fees, despite it being covered by insurance. They said not to worry because if they get paid, they will refund the money. They got paid 100% from the insurance companies yet they never offered a refund. They never called as promised and are not returning phone calls. I will be sure to tell the referring dentist that he should not be referring patients here, unless they change their business practices to industry standard ones. read more

I had a root canal performed by Dr. Franco A Tram who left an instrument (file) and now I'm experiencing horrible headaches and facial pain!!! No one wants to help or remove it. Needed a root canal done on a front tooth and was referred to Tri-valley for the procedure. Dr. Ye did a terrific job! She was very patient, taking the time to answer all my questions. The procedure itself was amazing, as she took the time to slowly numb the tooth resulting in zero pain or discomforted as she numbed it. With all the drilling involved, there was also zero pain or discomfort. She suggested taking ibuprofen afterwards for any pain, but I didn't need it as I never felt any pain. Overall, I could not have been more pleased with the work she did! She is personable and friendly, along with being very professional. Highly recommended! read more

This review is not about this office's dental service but the billing. I suggest you check closely the explanation of the benefit or EOB your insurance company sends you. I also recommend you keep the receipt. At the service, this office charged me the allowed amount on the EOB, which is the sum of my responsibility and the amount the insurance company pays. Thanks to the EOB, I realized this habit of theirs and asked for a refund. I am okay with them charging me the allowed amount. However, as some reviewers pointed out, the refund process was not easy. (You might want to look at one-star and two-star reviews.) It took me some time to get the refund. I needed to send several emails to the office. read more

I have been to Tri Valley Endodontics twice. Once was several years ago when I had a temp crown put in and it was uncomfortable for too long. After a bite adjustment with no improvement it was recommended that I see an endodontist to make sure that the tooth was ok. After examination by Dr. Nguyen he did not see anything wrong with the tooth and advised me that sometimes the healing process takes some time and to call back if the discomfort continues. The tooth eventually healed on its own. I appreciated him not just wanting to start any treatment right away. The second time that I went to Tri Valley Endodontics I had an excruciating toothache on a different and older crown tooth. They were able to see me within a couple of days. Dr. Jing Ye saw me and performed the root canal treatment. She was very gentle and talked to me during procedure about what she was seeing and what she was doing. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating. It is less than a week later and I feel no more pain. Two visits and two good outcomes. read more

Great experience from start to finish! I scheduled a root canal 2 weeks ago for after the holiday. Sadly, too much pain took over and I couldn't wait another week. I called this morning to see if they had a sooner appointment (even though tomorrow is Thanksgiving) and they were able to get me in today! The staff and doctor were all kind and explained everything they were doing every step of the way. This root canal was so much better than a previous one I had at a different location. Although it is a long process, the Dr and team there made sure I was numb and asked me if I was ok during the process. They took x rays at the end to ensure their work was complete. I can't say I had a great time here since I was getting a redo root canal done but they did a great job and thats what I care about! Dr. Nguyen was recommended to me by Dr. Sooleimani since my tooth needed extra care and was possibly going to need to come out. I'm 25 so that's not exactly ideal but here we are. I'm happy to say Dr. Nguyen saved my tooth and prevented so much damage. I'm writing this review update after a long conversation with Dr. Tarm, and while that did not change my previous experience, he did address many of the issues and concerns I had during those experiences. He did not ask me to "dumb down" or delete my review, so I am writing this of my own accord because I feel that his courtesy and time really reflect on the good intentions of him as an endodontist and his moral business model for his practice. In my initial review, I addressed the unsatisfactory service and attitudes of the staff, and Dr. Tarm informed me that he had taken what I said and used it to better the performances of his staff. I can't express how much I appreciate the fact that he takes his customers' and patients' reviews seriously, and rather than writing it off as "you can't please everyone," he took the time to speak to his staff and then to me to see how improvements can be made. In my previous review, I also mentioned that I observed that my mom had to ask for another numbing shot and that there were concerns about whether or not the tooth could be taken out. Dr. Tarm informed me that sometimes in situations like this when the tooth is incredibly inflamed and swollen, there may be excessive bruising and discomfort. I understand this, and I do see that sometimes in extreme situations, it can be hard to gauge the extent of what can be done until the actual procedure. The server setback I previously mentioned was a result of rotten luck, but Dr. Tarm did admit that he was quite frustrated by the setbacks that morning and that it may have affected his mood, which is absolutely understandable. I really appreciated the fact that he didn't try to make it seem like I was being too sensitive or unreasonable, and that he was aware of the issues that happened that morning and is working hard to make sure such problems don't happen again. I feel that the fact that Dr. Tarm took the time out of his own personal schedule to call me and have an actual conversation about my experience truly reflects on the kind of dentist (and person) he is. He has plenty of rave reviews, so what's one unsatisfactory review? Instead, he took the time to address and improve, and I can't be any more thankful for that. I feel that it shows he takes each and every one of his patients seriously, and that's really one of the most important qualities in a healthcare professional. read more

Is it possible to have a 5 star review for a root canal--4 roots on 1 tooth? Yes, when it's literally pain free. The practice is very careful in terms of checking for fever, having things sanitized, face masks, etc. The procedure was painless and I felt well informed about what was needed. This is a long overdue review regarding my first root canal. Like most people, I was completely freaked out when I heard I had to get one, as I've only heard horror stories about them. I was referred to them by my dentist , so they knew my situation and my problem, when I called ,they gave me the estimate and I made the appointment, the moment I got there they surprised me with the consultation cost which was never mentioned to me when I made the appointment, then the cost they gave me went $500 dollars more , when I asked them why it went up that much they denied that they told me that price, it's not about the money, but I felt it was a ripoff, just pulling my leg to the office, I end up paying the outrageous consultation fees , and left the office without getting any treatment. read more

Eventually I got a callback and the person told me they haven't received any payment from my insurance. I checked my insurance and saw that the payment was processed 3 weeks ago. The person told me she would need to check the pile of letters next to her to see if my insurance payment is in there. If not, she would contact my insurance. After about another 2 weeks, my refund was finally processed. I wish they would have handled it more professionally instead of waiting for someone to leave a bad review on Yelp and then taking care of it. read more

EMERGENCY ROOT CANAL. 3 words someone ALWAYS wants to hear (detect the sarcasm)! But alas, I did hear those fateful words after some severe tooth pain sent me to the dentist on Thursday morning. I was referred from my dentist to Tri Valley Endodontics and I was very pleased with my experience there. From office staff to Dr. Tarn himself, they were all super nice and very great in explaining what was going to be done from start to finish What I loved as well was that the hygeniests always asked if I was okay and if I needed anything. This may have been the single least painful dental procedure in my decades of health care. Doctor Tarm was very careful about not causing pain and he didn't. I also have a bad fainting issue around needles as a consequence of many childhood surgeries and during my procedure the doctor and nurse were both careful to keep needles out of my line of sight and ask me to close my eyes if anything sharp was at risk of crossing my field of vision. If I'd had dental professionals this kind and competent when a child then my teeth would be in infinitely better shape...Everyone who mentions their horror at a root canal I'm sending here. read more
