Dr. Young and Dr. Ta are very patient, nice, and professional. The office is clean and spacious. My family always feels welcomed and relaxed here. My only concern is the billing. I came out of the office and the front desk staff said: "Did anyone tell you that your insurance doesn't cover that?" Of course no, so I have to pay hundreds of dollars immediately. This is my second review for sustainable smiles but this time it's in regards to Dr. Ta. My mom and I were first seen by Dr. Young and had a great experience..last Friday my dad and sister where seen by Dr. Ta. I'm glad to say they had an amazing visit as well. I want to thank Dr. Ta for her kindness and thoroughness and patience with both my dad and sister, but especially with my sister considering she's deals with anxiety and has had a bad experience before at a dentist. Dr. Ta made my sister feel comfortable and heard when it came to her dental issues. I highly recommend Dr. Cynthia Young DDS and her staff for top tier dental care in Pleasanton. If you live anywhere in the east bay or even beyond she's worth the drive. Dr.Young is a dedicated dentist who practices gold standard of care. I have lived in different cites and states and she ranks among the highest qualified dentist I've encountered based on quality of care and attention to detail. She is very friendly and her staff is upbeat, professional and fun. I saw her awards on the wall in the waiting room. She's very impressive yet down to earth. I feel so comfortable and confident that she knows what shes doing and the experience is pleasant. She graduated from UCLA for undergraduate school and USC dental school (best if you don't know.) She won the top award in her class at USC for her outstanding achievement. I'm not exactly sure what the details of the award are but this is an example of her dedication and character. I happened upon her practice when I needed a dentist in Pleasanton. I'm so glad I found her. I especially appreciate her relaxed demeanor and positivity. Going to the dentist can be traumatizing. I had bad childhood experiences. Last year I had to have extensive dental procedures done and I completely trust her. A couple years ago I moved out of Pleasanton but I travel over an hour to continue care with her and her team. She recently moved her office (Sept 2024) and opened a brand new state of the art office. It's beautiful. She also has added a second dentist to the team. I'm just so grateful that I stumbled upon Dr. Young at Sustainable Smiles. I literally googled her and I am grateful that I found her. She's a diamond in the sea of available dentists. I look forward to going to the dentist now and I'm not afraid because I completely trust her. I'm writing this for those out there who may have felt the way I did about going to the dentist. I had to switch dentists because my previous dentist no longer accepted my insurance. I decided to try Sustainable Smiles based on their Yelp reviews. I came in on my appointment day and was brought in the back for the standard x-rays. Afterwards, one of the woman dentists (not Dr. Young) examined my teeth and performed the cleaning. She explained everything that was being done and asked if I had any questions. She and the other person assisting her were having an interesting conversation about food and coffee. They kept me entertained. I wish I had remembered the dentist's name, but I'm sure all of the ones that work there are fine. I was out in less than an hour and will be happy to come back next time. read more

I have been going to see Dr. Young for years. We were very happy with care provided and had no billing issues. Until recently. There is a new dentist in the office , who also works at same practice and likes to do many fillings, regardless if they are really needed. Overall, I feel that quality of work / service has declined. Wait times were long for regular cleaning due to overlapping appointments. It is my perception that the work being done is not followed through and no promise of quality in regards to service provided and I don't feel that provider stands by the job done . Dr. Young is super friendly, informative and quick. She put up fun Where's Waldo art on the ceiling to entertain yourself while in the chair. I went in today for x-rays & a cleaning. The x-rays were quick and taken comfortably. I always hated the piece you have to bite down on but didn't have any issues with that today. I have had a chipped front tooth for a long time. She offered to show me what it would look like if it were fixed and I decided to make a follow up appointment on the spot. It never bothered me before but after seeing a normal tooth - I have to get it fixed now! They still require masks in the lobby and also have air purifiers throughout the office. First of all, when was the last time you went to your dentist during the weekday at 6:45pm for your scheduled appointment? Probably NEVER. But with Dr Young, she has pretty late appointments and that works great with me since I don't need to take any time off to go during the weekdays or plan out in advance for a weekend appt. It was pretty easy to schedule the appt on the phone and they have a new patient intake form that you fill out online in the convenience of your own home! So I did that beforehand. It was a little hard to find this dental practice in the dark. Google maps directed me to an elementary school but I guess the dental office is right next to it. Either way, I eventually found the office and I was greeted so nicely by her assistant and then Dr Young came out to introduce herself. Super bubbly even for the end of the night! I went in for my semi-annual cleaning and got some x-rays done. I asked her about my jaw issues and she said that next time around, I could schedule an appt with an orthodontist that comes on the weekends since I'm waiting until the next open enrollment for FSA. Super understanding and explained everything quite easily. The cleaning was pretty good, pretty much wiped clean of any plaque buildup and stains that I collected the last six months. She gave me a goodie bag - toothbrush, toothpaste, and a mini lip balm - and scheduled my next cleaning in six months for a late time as well! read more

I really enjoyed dr young. She helped calm me down knowing I had some significant problems and was afraid of the dentist. My forest bust went really well. I went back for my second appointment that was for an emergency and was told by her front desk staff that when I got there I owed $400 from my previous visit and couldn't finish my emergency until I paid. Her from t desk staff ( white lady) was seriously rude and then decided to call me daily to get the money and wrote me a few letters too. Dr. Cynthia Young is a pro. She takes the time to get to know her patients and explains the different options to them. She has great hours which helps if you are a busy person and only can do nights. Sometimes her answer is lets watch this tooth and you never feel pushed to get any unnecessary dental work. As someone who is not a fan of the dentist (let's face it, who is), both she and her team do a good job making you feel relaxed and welcome as the poke around your mouth. I tried this office because of good reviews, but very disappointed. The cleaning job was really so so, after the cleaning I can still feel the roughness between teeth when flossing, which is due to uncleaned buildup. The doctor explained things well, that's the 2 star. But more time was spent on selling me some mouth guards than the cleaning I need. After the appointment I received a bill for x-rays which is a surprise to me. Routine x-rays are covered by my insurance. if there is anything uncovered, the standard process is to inform me the cost before the treatment. It turned out that they took all kinds of x-rays I don't actually need for a regular cleaning and didn't check my insurance. I inquired this charge, the front desk person said "patients are responsible to know all the rules of their insurance". Wow, to be qualified as their patients, you have to remember all the terms of your insurance, and be ready to pay any uncovered, unauthorized over-treatment! Why was I so unlucky while the reviews were so good? Maybe the good experienced staff has left, maybe the doctor was distracted by other things in the life, maybe they are too proud of the good reviews so have a higher standard for the patients than for themselves. I don't know. What I do know is that the service quality doesn't meet my standard, and I have canceled all appointments with this office. read more

By far the best dentist experience I've ever had. From someone with a cracked molar, braces, and a terrible wisdom teeth removal experience, sustainable smiles was a dream. This team is attentive, kind, and sensitive to your needs. Dr. Young is easily the BEST dentist I have EVER been too. I came in originally because I thought my wisdom tooth was infected (the tooth wasn't but still extremely painful). I told Dr. Young from the beginning that I'm terrified of the dentist and she put me at ease and talked me through my entire procedure. I think she is in dangering her patients by not listening to them. I brought my brother to have his teeth removed, the whole upper jaw which is a total of 13 teeth; and Dr. Young REFUSED to give or write the prescription of ANTIBIOTIC and/or PAINKILLERS. we requested for multi times to have antibiotic and painkillers, she insisted my brother would not get infected nor pain; the truth is my brother suffered from a HUGE blister on the part that she removed his teeth, we took a picture and sent it to her, she did not respond our phone calls, we did not hear anything from her until the next appointment, that 5 days later. This is ridiculous, how could someone experience no pain when he has 13 teeth removed, who will believe it? Does Dr. Young have a dentist's license? otherwise, why would she refuse to write a prescription to a patient who she removed 13 teeth? The bottom line is she does bad customer service; I regret I went to her, and I will not recommend anybody to go to her. read more

Our family had a horrible and exhausting experience with Sustainable Smiles. Dr. Young will have you wait for hours in the chair while she takes multiple patients at a time. No respect for appointment duration at all as if we had unlimited PTO to sit and wait. Our main gripe is that every single time they billed us it was somehow hundreds of dollars more than what was quoted and they illegally charged all their patients for their gloves and face masks during COVID as if it's the patient's responsibility to protect the doctor during a pandemic. I don't typically use online platforms to complain since I have the respect of connecting with the business first but they literally told us we would only owe $300 then magically another$600 bill came in the mail after 6 months.... and this happened twice! This is along side of finding out from from our insurance provider that billing patients back for PPE is illegal. I'm so frustrated and dismayed. I'm quite certain the multiple positive reviews cannot possibly be authentic since both of the teeth I had worked on are now needing to be recrowned. I have had a crippling fear of the dentist for many years that stopped me from going to appointments for many years (8+) and she welcomed me with no judgement and complete understanding of my situation. WOW! I can't believe that a dentist appointment could be so enjoyable! Dr. Young was just about the nicest person I've ever met and you could tell that she really knew her stuff! The whole staff at Sustainable Smiles gets two BIG thumbs up for their friendly and efficient service. The office itself was also very welcoming with complimentary water, coffee, and tea. Not to mention plenty of high-tech gear like tablet computers instead of paper forms, digital X-Ray equipment, free guest WiFi access, and big flat screen TVs that Dr. Young used to walk me through my X-Rays! The excellent service provided by Sustainable Smiles is exemplified in my first office visit detailed below: I walked in for a new patient appointment after not being to the dentist in a long time... needless to say I was apprehensive as to what issues might be found after so long away. After the super speedy registration, my X-Rays were taken digitally, and my teeth were examined. Unfortunately, Dr. Young found 2 cavities. Typically, any other dentist would have made me schedule a follow-up appointment to fill the cavities... but not Dr. Young! She took care of me like a friend and fixed me up on the spot!
