The Triad Theater is one of many mid sized theaters in New York City that seats about 115 people and hosts a variety of different shows like music, comedy, etc. Like many other standard theaters in the city they have a 2 drink minimum. I came here for a show recently. It was okay. The ambiance and architecture of the venue was alright. Just adorable cabaret style theater, perfect size and seating for an intimate crowd. Tiered short levels so that there is not a bad seat in the house..sat all the way up front in a handsome burgundy leather banquette.. Great acoustics, very efficient service for drinks as there is a 2 drink min...the Old Fashioned made me GASP...uggg..each sip I would shake my head. A friend was playing with a small band, but they have many diverse shows here..I can see the space used for any small gathering wanting a stage/lighting. I came here to see an Off-Broadway musical that I had heard about in Instagram called "Swan Lake Rock Opera". I had never been to this theater before but I was unimpressed on how disorganized and small the entrance was. There wasn't much space to make a line for the "will call" area so I lined up on the stairs. The staff announced 30 minutes before the show started that they were going to check confirmation numbers but as I got near the booth, I found out that some people had already been checked in and others like myself hadn't and I ended up having to step aside. Then when I finally got in, I learned 2 things: There is a 2-drink minimum that requires you to spend at least $25 and that it's a pick your own seat kind of theater except for some of the reserved tables in the front. I was surprised with the set-up. I thought it was like every other theater but this one has tables and the seats are elevated so there isn't one bad seat in the house. I ended up being able to sit close to the stage and ordered a glass of Rose and a Coca-Cola. I had overheard a waitress describe the most delicious fries to a group in front of me so I ended up making the same order. The waitress must be studying marketing because she knew how to sell those fries, which ended up being plain okay and really expensive for $14. The decoration of the stage set the mood for the show along with the low-dimmed lighting. And what can I say about the show? I didn't know what to expect but I am so glad that I ended up going. It is the most interesting version of the Swan Lake I've ever seen. It was funny, naughty, and mind-blowing, especially when the performers would sing their lungs off. Wow! I had never really enjoyed the ballet version because I couldn't understand the story but this show was so engaging in the development of its story. And another surprise was that there were small moments in which the actors would interact with the audience, and if you follow my Yelp reviews, then you know by now that immersion is my jam. So the menu might have been overpriced, but the tickets to the show were quite cheap on Goldstar, which I got for $25 so it is supposed to balance each other out. At least I can say that I enjoyed my time at the theater so no regrets on how much I spent tonight. read more

I came here last night to support a friend who was performing. The show was Voices Carry NY Cabaret. What a fun show this was to watch. Everyone was so good and brought different vibes to the show. I enjoyed the show very much! On the other hand the service was I am not even sure how to describe it. I sat with two friends we were in the back in a comfy booth which was fine. In back of us was also a bigger actual booth. And there were tables in front of us. well it took a while for our waiter to take our order. But the table in back and in front of us had their orders placed already. And we were there on the early side. So finally he came around to our table took our order..fine. Well it took a pretty long time for our drinks to come out. Mind you this was only for the first round of the 2 drink minimum they have at this place. And friends I was sitting with and I did not order drinks that should take THAT long. Friend 1 got a cider which doesn't come with a glass just in a can. Friend 2 ordered a Prosecco and hot tea. I ordered a Roxy which was Prosecco with a little gin, lavender and lemon I think. Well show is about to start and friend 1 and 2 drink comes. No sign of mine. My friend gave me her glass of Prosecco as my drink was probably not coming. We also asked for a round of waters ( how long can that take?!) Well ends up I went to go to the back to the bar area as I saw our waiter back there and asked where my drink was. The bartender said he had made it and neither of them knew where it went. So that was a tad strange. So then I go sit down and like 4 min later my drink comes. I tasted it and it was pretty bad and tasted just like the regular glass of Prosecco. I was a bit confused. But glad it finally got to me. Than 10 min pass by and still one of my friends and I had not been served water. I go back to the bar area and the bartender in a sort of rude tone said I can't take your order sorry. And I was like I just want water but ok. And he said oh you just wanted water well that I can do. I asked for two and he gave me two. So the show ends and now it's time to pay. I told our waiter how late my drink came and it probably wouldn't even came if I did not go up to him and ask for it myself. And I told him my friend gave me her prosecco so that could be on my bill. He seemed not to really understand how we felt about the service and he did take off 5.00 from my bill. Ok a little nice gesture. And I said listen my drink was very late and he said how understaffed they were and how crowded it was. Yes I know it was a sold out show and yes I only saw 2 or maybe 3 waiters but when you see tables around you being served their second rounds of drinks and food I mean come on. And no one came by to ask if we need anything. He also did not say like sorry for long wait or sorry I didnt bring you the rest of your waters. I mean yes we are all human and forget things and yes it was very understaffed but as I just said I saw how other tables were getting their things with no problem. read more

What a beautiful and cozy theater gem on the UWS! I've been there several times for live music variety shows put on by Four Hands Collective. Such talented and friendly musicians! Wow! You do not want to miss the next show they have there! The snacks and drinks they offer hit the spot. The house manager Hannah Celeste was friendly and welcoming and attentive to the needs of all around, including both the audience members and the performers. Last night, I had the very good fortune to see Jack Ramp's Unfortunate Cabaret at the Triad Theater in Manhattan. It was a hoot! This vaudeville-like show was funny and clever, the talent was excellent, the singing was terrific and I especially liked their version of The Wizard of Oz and the singing cowboy. Everyone was very entertaining. The Triad Theater is a hidden gem. It's like a jewel box of a little theater and very comfortable. I was in the balcony. Loved it. Good job by Hannah and their wait staff (thank you!), good bar and drinks, and a hilarious, amazingly costumed, cabaret show. A good night out! read more

The staff here are phenomenal. As a performer, I cannot recommend it enough. From the amazing sound skills of JP to the hospitality of Russell to the beautiful film and editing work of Jonathan, this is truly a team who cares and does quality work. JP went above and beyond for sound and tech for us. Everyone in the audience said the lights and sound were really good, and they loved the theater (as do we). They are very honest about their 2 drink min (helps keep the place open and you happy ;-)). Only thing they're missing is a big sign out front! A theater of this caliber deserves a great audience and a great big sign! Perfect for shows of all kinds: cabaret, singer songwriter concerts, rock bands, small plays, solo shows and more. I want to preface my review by saying every employee we encountered was very nice and friendly. Not the most handicapped friendly place. We ended up sitting in the balcony because the first floor filled up. A young lady came outside and scanned tickets. She said she would talk to the manager about putting us in the elevator, which turned out to be a lift inside the restaurant downstairs. However, they left us waiting on line before the manager took us up on they lift. We still ended up having to walk up one flight. They offered 2 seats downstairs but we were with family. We made it, though. They could have taken us off the line and get us upstairs or even downstairs sooner to avoid the stress. There were multiple people working the line and it's not a large space. We caught the Lucy Darling show. There was limited views where we sat so we couldn't see the crowd, which she made part of the show. She could've used a mic as well since we didn't catch everything she said. One for the audience would've been nice as well. After the show ended, however, staff wasn't trained on what to do. A young lady put us alone in the lift (which had no light). She told us to press the first button (which was wrong). We had to turn on a cell phone to see the buttons once the first button didn't work. We pushed another and it took us down. Seems they didn't realize the restaurant was closed. Because once we got downstairs, the restaurant was dark and we couldn't open the elevator door. We had to go back upstairs on this dark lift. I was almost having a panic attack because I'm claustrophobic. Once back on the second floor, we had to walk down the steps. We noted the restaurant was padlocked once we were outside. It's safe to say, we won't be back. Beware if you are handicapped. Also, I encourage the manager to train staff a little better. read more

Our group had another show at The Triad yesterday and it was the best yet. Russell always takes amazing care of us - and we have 25+ performers and a packed house - so we need all the quality support we can get when it's show time! Our performers always feel like they're coming home when we have our seasonal show here - and it's all thanks to the amazing team from booking (Gene) to day of (Russell, Phillip and Ben) and the amazing waitstaff and bartenders (thanks for coming early Sally!). From opening up early (11:30!!) on a Sunday so we could start setting up, to helping us wrap our show in time (we had 17 numbers) before the next performers came in - everything was seamless. Even as we grow in numbers, we know we will always come back to perform here because they are the best in business and treat us so well. Can't wait to see you all again in March! read more

I came here last night to see my best friend sing in a cabaret show. I am in the theater scene in NY, but I have never heard of or been to the Triad. I am so happy a went! It is one of the cutest cabaret-type spaces I have been to in the city. So many times, these types of venues are super cramped and do not feel like a real theater. This definitely did not have that feeling. I also like that you could sit wherever you wanted and there were lots of tables for two. The tickets were $10 online and $15 at the door, plus a two drink minimum. I am not sure if this is the norm, but it was the case last night. The drinks were definitely overpriced, which is why I took a star off. I understand that that is usually the case at places like this, but the drinks were a lot for what they were, in my opinion. I had 2 vodka sodas and they were $12 each. Something nice was that they let you get a non-alcoholic beverage or a snack item if you don't drink or are underage. They take your first and second drink order before the show starts and bring one before the show starts and one in the middle. I thought that was great! The waitstaff was efficient and moved quickly so they did not distract from the show. If other shows here interest me, I would definitely come back here! read more

Wonderful venue. Great acoustics and the seats are statically placed so that every audience member can see the band and the headline singer. This night I saw blues artist Carole Sylvan. Ms. Sylvan had the rhythm popping and when she sang Southern-themed songs it was like going to church. I other words she was crisp & juicy. The service was polite and friendly. read more

If you are looking for a Christmas outing - or just a fun evening definitely SKIP the Triad Theater's Christmas comedy show. My daughter and I were in town to celebrate the holiday weekend and wanted to do something Christmas related. Chose the atTtiad because they advertised the show as a Christmas Comedy. 4 comics and 3 were so bad it was uncomfortable to watch. Not one joke relating to Christmas or the holidays in general. 2 drink minimum- ordered the first and they tasted so bad neither of us could drink them. Ended up being billed $55 for the two they served us because they still had to charge for 4. Absolute waste of a night in New York and a complete waste of money. read more

My wife and I were visiting New York and staying on the upper West Side. After a day of seeing the sites, we wanted to experience some live theater that didn't involve heading down town. We ended up at the Triad Theater and couldn't have been happier. The Triad Theater sits above some restaurants on 72nd Street. It is intimate and recently refurbished. Seating is at tables and booths (I was told it had been a dinner theater) . Lots of room, and a full bar. Besides your tickets, they have a 2 drink minimum. We were there for the "Trump Family Special". It was hilarious, and the drinks didn't hurt... The play was great, and the performances were really top rate. I have been to the Triad many times, but I just had to write about my experience today. I was late and stressed due to a parking situation (not the Triad's fault, obviously) and the moment I entered Russell and Danny made me feel so welcome. Seriously, their kindness went way above and beyond. The show was great, but my experience was perfect because of the staff, especially those two. I feel like I now have a new "home" on the UWS and I can't wait to go back. For such a legendary spot to still care about greeting and treating its customers like they matter, they will forever get my business. I look forward to seeing a show there soon. read more

I've walked past this building dozens of times but never realized this theatre existed. I'm so glad I found out about it! The Cougar musical was so entertaining I didn't want it to end. I was fine with the two drink minimum but the best part about my martini was the olive. The liquid portion of the drink was a poor imitation of anything resembling alcohol. For $18, I expected a my martini to taste like one. I was also frustrated that the server went by so many times without taking my order and only got around to me well after the show had started. Not a fan of this theater. No way no how. First off, the ticket was $60-$70. Now, I know that the theater doesn't set the ticket price, but if you are paying that much, the venue should know to lower the drinks prices or, at the very least, serve some appetizers, especially if events start at 10pm and end at 2am. Drunk people equals hungry people. Second, they said in their email and when we got there, that performances would begin at 11pm. They started at 12:15am. That is not cool for people like me whose bedtimes are usually 12am! We were getting impatient and I was in no mood to mingle for an hour and 15 minutes. If you say you will start at a certain time, be a professional and start at that certain time. When the show finally started, I couldn't even see anything because of the way the theater is set up. There are a few booths in the front but those get filled up immediately. And because this space is SUPER CRAMPED, everyone stands in front of you in a very tight crowd. So if you are standing in the back half of the room, unless you are 6 feet tall, you won't see squat. So there goes the money you paid for the show that you won't even see. And last, the show wasn't even good. I've seen burlesque shows. They are supposed to be smooth, sexy, and fun. The performers were nice girls, but they sucked at the burlesque part. They were awkward and clunky. It was utterly painful to watch. Girls, don't quit your day jobs. If you're invited to an event here, I suggest you skip it. read more

This review is a two star for one reason alone... the drinks are awful. Cocktails so bad that I set a reminder to post a yelp review when I got back to LA. In fact, I almost left a one-star review, but I don't want to throw your stars off too much because the show was awesome. The theater and show (the 12 divas) was TERRIFIC -- go see it. The actress and her friends sing their little hearts out. Absolute fun! The theater itself is adorable. Now, back to the drinks. There is a two-drink minimum and I have no problem with that. The first drink I ordered was a coke... literally a coca-cola. I don't know when that coke syrup was changed, but it was so disgusting I couldn't finish the glass. Please do a taste test before you serve. I upgraded my next order for a gin and tonic with good gin. Dear god! Someone buy a cocktail recipe book for the bar. A gin and tonic is one shot gin, three shots tonic - a slice of lime and that's it. It was dreadful. Probably the worse gin and tonic ever made... in the history of mankind. Our entire table left almost full drinks - Some backstory, I love a good cocktail. I also love mediocre cocktails.... and being that I was on vacation, I would have surely ordered more than two cocktails (they are tiny!). I couldn't even get through half of one. And you know how drinking gets easier as you get drunk.... not so much here. Every sip was even worse than the last. I felt really bad for the talent.... they worked their asses off getting people in the door and gave us a great show. But the terrible drinks make it impossible to return. One thing I have learned about traveling to NYC is that New Yorkers like you to be as direct as possible. So this two-star review is for the manager and the bartender... you are single handily killing this theater. Now I'm not sure if this was the full-time bartender or a fill in. Maybe the waitress had to do double duty that night. Whatever the case.... it's the manager's fault for not having a good bartender (or even thinking customers deserve that) and the "bartender's" fault for not googling a recipe. Please invest your time in teaching your bartenders basic cocktails --- even if you only offer two signature drinks... do them really well. Everyone will come back -- your actors will be happy. The theater will make money.... win win win! Until things change - order a bottled water and save yourself the money and taste buds. read more

I've had terrific and greatly entertaining experiences at the Triad Theater in NYC. It's a beautiful jewel box and versatile theater and performance space. I've seen many different kinds of shows there e.g. Cabaret Performances, Film and Multi-Media Shows and Events, Jazz Singers and Bands. The sound and lighting I might add is superb and really 1st rate which is unusually sophisticated for a smaller venue to have such great technical features. Staff there are very personable and accommodating which makes one feel very welcome. I'm a NY'er and have been to my share of venues and this one rates high among the best of them. read more

I love the theatre, I was there for Jonny Rosch and Friends which were superb. Thank you. The only reason I gave only 3 stars is because the show was free with no cover, but before we sat we were approached by two waitresses to buy drinks before goi g upstairs and just when we sat the hostess lady came with a bucket for donations. I mean Im good with having a drink and donate money, but not cool with harassment before I even get a chance to sit down and enjoy the band. Is tacky. I know is probably what they are told to do, and I get it, is their job, but it will be best to offer drinks while people are seated and passing the bucket after people have enjoyed some music read more

Went last night to see The Bitchy Waiter show. THe place is super small and very hot. We only waited like 10 mins and were shown to our seats. You are basically sitting on top of each other its very small. The theater was built i 1936 so its very vintage and cool looking. The show was amazing our server was great and we had a blast. BTW its a bit hard to find. Its located on the second level of some Turkish restaurant. And anyone that is complaining about a 2 drink minimum is a just a cheap asshole. I hosted and produced a stand up comedy and live music show called #UptownComedyJam at their venue last night. AMAZING THEATRE!!!! I am born and raised in the bronx and have been producing events for over a decade in music and comedy and I've heard and seen events but never taken the steps to do an event until last night. The staff were a great help, especially Russell. He really helped and made sure everything was accomodated and ran smoothly. The bar & waitstaff was on point making sure the guest orders came and went in a timely fashion. Ben was great to work with on sound (I think I need him on every event of mines there in the future, he really know his stuff). Overall the show was a success and I am looking forward to bringing more productions here.
