I was very nervous, but once I arrived at this office I knew I was in great hands. The staff was very transparent about cost and what I would need to do in preparation for the procedure. Hi. My wife found this office in regard to our teenage daughter's wisdom teeth extraction after doing some extensive research. We met with Dr. Schiffman, who was lovely, highly personable and well credentialed. But nothing prepared us for the outcome of the procedure, which was simply miraculous. The extraction itself took less than an hour, and our daughter literally had no pain (we stayed ahead of it with their ex-strength advil; there was no need for strong drugs) or extra bleeding. The post-op instructions were easy to follow. No swelling, no bruising. Easy peasy. We've never seen anything like it. She had the procedure on Monday and was in the city for a haircut on Thursday. I love Dr Fay and her crew! Her clinic is very clean, professional and well-organised. I was not too familiar with America's dental system so it was really great that her team broke down and showed me a 'treatment plan' that listed insurance-covered versus out-of-pocket costs. That level of transparency was rare and very appreciated. On the day of the surgery (scheduled at 14:00), I was called in about 15 minutes past 14:00. Lizzie helped me get prepped. The plan was to get my two upper wisdom teeth out and apply only local anaesthesia. Dr. Fay has a very lovely demeanour and she was supportive and approachable. I felt like I wanted to be her friend but didn't ask because that would have been creepy. Once the anaethesia kicked in, she managed to take out the more impacted tooth out first (drill was involved but I felt no pain!). The other once was a breeze. All together it took less than half an hour and she helped me saved my wisdom teeth intact so I could make something fun out of it - we decided on earrings and she wanted photos because apparently a lot of people claimed they would do something like that but very few followed through. We called them my babies. They are so cute! I'm obsessed. How these little f**kers could give me so much jaw tension and headaches... glad they are out! Thank you Dr. Fay and crew. Oh yes, it's true that they have an uber professional care pack that included many gauze pads, pain killers, ice pack and even a head pouch. I had the best wisdom teeth surgery experience here with Dr. Schiffman and his team! Throughout my initial consultation, the surgery day itself, and my checkups after, Dr. Schiffman has answered all questions, given me space to ask anything I was concerned about, and has always started appointments on time. My favorite thing was that Dr. Schiffman personally called me a few hours after the surgery to check on my clotting, to give me an opportunity to ask any new questions, etc. I'm glad he did because I had misunderstood something about the antibiotics, so he was able to clear that up for me! Actually, my favorite favorite thing was that -- even though I got all four wisdom teeth removed (all at least partially impacted!), I actually had hardly any swelling the next couple days (like people couldn't tell), and minimal pain. I've just used ibuprofen, no need for anything stronger. Given Dr. Schiffman's attention to detail, my guess is that he's also just super meticulous in his surgery and was able to minimize impact. Let me preface this rousing five-star review with some background: I have a wholesome respect for dental health. Having grown up with a variety of tooth abnormalities (late adult teeth, braces, missing bottom front tooth, root canals, etc.), I've developed a love/hate relationship with dental care providers and needles anywhere near my face. Yet, when my stellar dentist, Dr. Urtula at Emagen Dental, (yep, the one I take transatlantic flights to go see) recommends that I get my incoming wisdom tooth removed by a particular oral surgeon, I don't question - I simply execute. I needn't have worried anyhow. Dr. Fay was all things exceptional in someone who's going to slice you open: warm, personable, direct, and proficient. From the moment I sat down in that plush never-want-to-get-up-again consultation chair to the moment I walked out of her practice, I felt absolutely no hesitation. The operation itself was so fast that I was bewildered when it was over. One moment, I'm waiting for the local anaesthetic to kick in, the next I'm being told that I'll feel some pushing, and a minute after that, she was putting in stitches. I was still trying to wrap my brain around what point the tooth itself actually came out! In addition to Tribeca OMFS following up with me, I got a quick note from my dentist to make sure the operation went well. Knowing how finicky my teeth can be, I'm grateful to know that whether or not it's hygiene- and maintenance-related or requires more serious interventions, I'm in good hands all around. read more

I booked the appt for 12:30 and they did all the scans needed. By 3:30 Dr. Schiffman was operating ( I had to be put fully under anesthesia) and by 4:30 I had a double extraction done. No more pain. I first went to Dr. Fay for a wisdom tooth extraction about 5 years ago when her office was on Central Park South and at that time I wrote in my Yelp review, "I wish I could go to Dr. Fay again because she was terrific; but at the same time I'm glad I don't anticipate needing to see an oral surgeon again anytime soon!" Sadly, I jinxed myself and cracked a molar. So I found myself once again at Dr. Fay's office for the extraction and subsequent dental implant. It was a nine month long process: waiting for the extraction to heal, getting the titanium screw implanted into the bone socket, waiting for it to fuse to my jaw... But through it all, Dr. Fay was the best. She explained everything to me and made sure I understood every step of the process. The extraction was more painful than the implant, but I wouldn't really say it was painful -- it was more like a lot of pressure because molars don't want to come out! The implant went smoothly and my jaw was only mildly sore for a day or two (nothing that ibuprofen couldn't handle). After my implant healed I had to go to my regular dentist (Dr. Amy David, who is also awesome) to have the fake tooth made and attached to the metal screw/implant. My dentist was so impressed with Dr. Fay's work and professionalism that she told me she now refers all her other patients to Dr. Fay for oral surgery/extractions. Not going to lie, it was *expensive* - my dental insurance would only cover part of the extraction and my medical insurance refused to cover the oral surgery (e.g. implant) and she was out of network. But it was completely worth every penny to go to her for peace of mind. read more

I recently was referred to Dr. Schiffman to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled & I literally couldn't recommend him and his team anymore. Scheduling all of my appointments were super easy and they were very flexible. I was definitely pretty hesitant given that I'd only really heard horror stories about the process but Dr. Schiffman truly was able to answer all of my questions and address all of my concerns with ease. He is extremely knowledgeable and immediately gives off that impression which was something that was very important to me and was very reassuring. His expertise lead to an extremely smooth recovery (besides not being able to eat solid food as expected, I was in almost 0 discomfort literally the day after the surgery) and he was very easy to get in contact with (even outside of business hours) when I had any questions or concerns which was great given that my surgery was on a Friday so it was nice to have that ease of mind. His office was also super upfront in terms of communicating how much would be out of pocket vs what insurance would cover which was really really helpful. Dr. Shiffman is really great at what he does - had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out and there was ZERO pain after the operation, at all! Under a week I was able to return to normal eating because they healed so well. Considering the scale of the operation, the experience was excellent (a sore in my mouth hurt more than this, lol). I made the appointment and was asked to provide any X-rays I had. The most recent X-rays were from a month before my visit. When I went there was no offer to take new X-rays or CT scan to determine if anything new developed in the area since my last scan. I had a tooth extracted nearly three months ago with bone grafting done. I said the only time I get relief is when I use chlorhexidine, which kills bacteria, but no offer was made to take new X-rays or CT scans to determine if anything was going on in the area. I sat in the chair for 20 minutes and had a conversation with the oral surgeon. He briefly looked in my mouth, but that was all. I was charged for the visit and almost felt rushed out of there. I walked in with discomfort and left with the same discomfort. I was extremely disappointed with my visit and the quality of care I received. read more

Dr. Fay is a serious contender for the title the Michael Jordan of teeth extractions. Overall, very good experience; consultation, extraction, checkup - everything went smooth. Even got a fancy water gun to rinse the healing alveolus. The entire staff is very friendly, and the background music at the clinic - 90's grunge - sets the perfect mood for losing a tooth. I had a fantastic experience with my wisdom teeth removal! Its the day after my extractions ( all 4) and I barely have any discomfort and my swelling has gone down almost completely. Im still following all the after care instructions for the next couple of days but Dr. Fay and the staff did a great job! IV sedation is definitely the way to go, I tried one extraction with just local anethesia and it just gave me anxiety but the team accomedated me for the IV sedation and it was smooth sailing after that (and i dont remember a thing which trust me its how you want to do it lol) Thanks again team! read more

Definitely recommend Dr Fay and her practice! I had wisdom teeth consultation in May 2019, and had two removed in December 2019 and two in January 2020 to take advantage of the insurance annual maximum. For the right two I did with IV bc one tooth was impacted, I was so scared the moment I stepped into the surgery room but it turned out to be an easy and quick no-memory experience. According to my mom who was waiting outside to escort me home, she was told the procedure was over after only 20 min and it took me another 20 min to wake up. The left two I did with local anesthesia, a little bit scary but absolutely quick and no pain at all (literally 1 min per tooth). Dr Fay and her assistant kept chatting casually when waiting for the anesthesia to take effect to ease my nerves. The recovery was always quick with no pain or swelling at all. Dr. Schiffman is really great. I got three wisdom teeth removed with IV sedation, which was not painful at all throughout the whole process. I don't remember the surgery actually. Clear after surgery guidance was given with medication and an awesome ice pack head bandage. Disclaimer: I may be writing this review under the residual effect of nitrous oxide, so take it for what it is. :-) I arrived a few minutes late for the appointment but was taken in promptly. Dr. Fay is very good at making you relaxed. She had nice music going in the background which was cool. Everything was set up, and at the last minute I asked for the NO2 option, and her assistants set the contraption up quickly. Dr. Fay explained what she was doing every step of the way, and was very mindful of any discomfort I may have, but seconds into the the NO2 and by the 3rd Novocain injection, pain was the last thing I could feel. I kind of lost track of time, but it felt like the extraction itself took less time than the prep! Dr. Fay opted for no grafting when conditions allow, as she prefers to let the bone structure heel on its own, which would be my preference anyway. It was a great extraction experience, whatever that meant. I took two Advils for the discomfort as the Novocain wore off, then two Tylenols for the night, no discomfort since. If you need an extraction, she's definitely someone you should look up. read more

First of all, I can't believe I'm reviewing a dentist, but here we go. I put off having my wisdom teeth removed because of all the horror stories you hear, but Dr. Fay is amazing. First I had a consultation where we talked about the procedure and the IV sedation. I needed an appointment asap as my partner is starting school in a week and I needed him to bring me home, so when I talked to the girls up front they managed to get me in next day as there was a cancellation. So this morning I just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed with iv sedation and wow I can't believe that I'm in next to no pain. Over the 1st 12 hours after the surgery my face slowly regained feeling, I took 1 600mg Ibuprofen around 2pm to try to get ahead of any pain, but its now 10:45pm and still no pain. The actual procedure was great also. I went in, nervous as can be. Was brought to the room, offered a warm blanket, took my HR, then gave me the IV so I would face any discomfort. I woke up about 45 mins later, feeling pretty good(thanks to the sedation), but still feel great, even managed to eat some Mac and Cheese. I highly recommended anyone to Dr. Fay, especially if you have any fear or anxiety of wisdom tooth removal. She's great at what she does and has a great, upbeat personality that easily calms your nerves. read more

I can't believe I didn't even need to use the painkillers she prescribed after having both my wisdom teeth removed, and one side was complicated due to an infection that required cutting into the gum and stitches after). Great bedside manner, very speedy recovery (2-3 days!), was even contactable by mobile afterwards if I had any questions (I did and she happily reviewed a video I took of my sockets when I was concerned about my stitches). Dr. King and and his staff were all very pleasant and patient in explaining the procedure. Dr. King presented my options and made some recommendations. He was not pushy at all and I felt very much in control of my decision to do general anesthesia since I was getting all three of my teeth removed. I came in intentionally removing 1, but ended up removing 2 due to a recommendation and am so glad I did. Had an IV and before I knew it, i was knocked out. Woke up with almost no pain and minor bleeding. I was able to even eat some solids that evening and went to work the next day as if nothing happened. No swelling, barely used the painkillers. I didnt get a follow up like others did and my initial injection for the IV was hurt since it was poked into the side of my arm and not a vein, but once it was switched to my other arm and into an actual vein, this experience was totally painless and my insurance covered most of the cost.
