I am sharing my experience so that prospective patients can make informed decisions. Dr. Chionchio placed a dental implant for me in 2019. Several years later, I developed problems involving the adjacent tooth that ultimately required root canal treatment. An American Board-certified endodontist reviewed my radiographic and CBCT images and provided a written opinion stating that the implant was not positioned correctly, was extremely close to the adjacent tooth, and likely contributed to the need for root canal treatment. I later obtained a written statement from another implant dentist who reviewed the imaging and confirmed that the implant is positioned in close proximity to the adjacent tooth. I provided my CBCT imaging to Park Slope Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for review and requested reimbursement. The office reviewed the case but disagreed with the opinions I obtained and declined any reimbursement or financial assistance. I understand that dental professionals may have differing opinions. However, given the concerns raised by independent specialists and the costs involved, I was disappointed by the office's response and unwillingness to provide assistance in resolving the matter. read more

I needed to have a wisdom tooth removed. Dentists have not historically provided my favorite medical experiences... However, Dr. Sengupta was *terrific*. She asked the right questions at the start, explained what would happen and how, and very quickly made me feel more at ease. She even said I could put headphones on and listen to something if that would help. From there, things went both very smoothly and very quickly. Afterwards, she was clear about the aftercare instructions, and the assistant gave me a small envelope with extra gauze--and the written instructions. Surely no one likes having to have this kind of procedure, but I can definitely recommend Dr. Sengupta and this office if you need to. This was my 2nd visit to this oral surgery office. I had Dr. Trina Sengupta for my last wisdom tooth extraction 2 years ago and had the pleasure of being under her care 2 years later to remove the 2 wisdom teeth on my left side. The office is quiet, clean and the check in staff are so sweet. They were up front about my costs outside. Of what my.insurwnce covered before starting surgery and I really appreciate the transparency. I decided. On doing. Just local anesthesia and did not do laughing gas. That's my personal preference and everything went smoothly. The surgery went well. I received detailed instructions, a packet of gauze and some mild pain medication in the office before I left as well as a cold pack. After meeting with Dr.Chionchio for the first time, he really put me at ease. I've had horrible experiences with other dentists, so I was terrified when I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled. The day of my surgery couldn't have gone better. Annie at the reception area ensured me that everything would be fine, and Carmen the dental assistant put me at ease throughout my entire surgery. I was referred to this office from my dentist because I needed to get a wisdom tooth extracted. I was able to get an appointment in 2 weeks and was very happy with the experience. I've never had anything but a cavity before, and was a bit worried about the process. The team made me feel super comfortable, and was very attentive to concerns I had/any discomfort I was in. I needed to have the remainder of a tooth removed and bone graft placed in the spot. My dentist referred this place and I went one morning before work. I know, crazy right? Anywho, when I got to the place I did the usual filling out of the paperwork. My wait wasn't long at all which was great. The dentist was great and so was her assistant. They informed me that laughing gas would have to be paid out of pocket if I wanted it and I chose to opt for it because my nerves are horrible. They put what I would assumed (I hope) was Vaseline on my lips before and after the procedure which was awesome. No one wants chapped lips while getting teeth pulled out of their mouth. The entire procedure took all of 30 minutes. I have no complaints with anything there. My problem is not being notified ahead of time that the bone graft isn't covered by my insurance. And that seemed to be the most expensive part of the whole thing. I'm pretty sure people would want to know what their total payment would not just include whatever co-pay and some laughing gas, but would also include a $500 procedure. read more

My boyfriend lives in Africa and had a tooth pulled while he was there. He visited New York for one week and while we knew he couldn't have a crown done in a single week, we talked to a dentist & learned about implants & made an appointment at Park Slope for a consultation. The appointment was fine. We went on a Monday and the doctor took some impressions of my boyfriend's mouth and said he would work out some options because there was a two-tooth gap and he promised to call us back to do the work on Thursday. We paid $200. We were told it was $150 on the phone for consultations and another $50 for the impressions. We were never called. Seriously. The doctor had the impressions made and did nothing. So my boyfriend returned to Africa with no implant but $200 poorer. We found our experience here really unprofessional. The assistant had to take the x-rays multiple times because they were having computer problems. And then the lack of follow-up to top it off. I would not recommend going here when there are so many other options in the city. read more

I'll start by saying Dr. Chionchio is GREAT! Removed my wisdom teeth and was fully recovered in a week with no problems. However - as for the staff, I was not impressed at all. 1) I was charged "out of network fee" even though my insurance was in network 2) Charged me for procedures that were already covered by insurance (I'm going to assume they did not even run my insurance before calculating payment needed - total overcharge $560 - realized this after I received the statement from my insurance on what i owed) 3) When I called to find out about my refund, the staff seemed more annoyed than me. Basically telling me the office manager was out and I would have to wait for when she gets back. This is my second time extracting a wisdom tooth here and it's always a breeze. Dr Baker is a gem and he really makes you feel relax. He explains everything while he doing it and that's really important to me. The wait time was under 10 minutes or less. The office is very clean and relaxing and they even offer free wifi,although you may not have to use it since you may not be waiting long. The whole procedure was very easy (true story). I was really numb about a few hours after the procedure and I had no pain after numbness wear out. I ate the same day of the surgery I only stayed away from my favorite nut raw almonds lol. I woke up the next day and I had almost forgot that I had a wisdom tooth extracted. The staff is excellent. I received a confirmation call two days prior my appointment day. The office is very easy to find but finding parking is quite a challenge. Waiting area as well as the exam rooms & bathroom is very neat. On a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the highest, Dr. Chionchio is a rock solid 10. HE IS SIMPLY AMAZING!! A friend referred me here after having a HORRIBLE experience at my normal dentist office with an attempted tooth extraction. When I walked in I was greeted by a wonderful receptionist and dental assistant. When called into the room I started to get scared not knowing if this procedure was going to turn out the same. Dr. Chionchio explained the process to me and assured me he would not tug on my tooth to take it out much like the other dentist did. After a little laughing case, a small Valium pill, a fully numbed jaw, my earbuds and some music I was relaxed. It took five minutes to extract the tooth and I didn't feel a thing! After the procedure I gave him a high-five and said "you are the man!" He prescribed me pain meds and a antibiotic however I don't think I'll need the pain meds at all. Dr chionchio is awesome!! He was very kind smart patient and down to earth. I made an appointment about 3 weeks in advance to remove my wisdom teeth as they have been bothering me and I wanted to make space for Invisalign. This office can not take out all four wisdom teeth at once but can take two teeth at a time. This way you prevent infection and can eat solid foods on the other side of your mouth on the same day of the procedure. I have to say the procedure was actually enjoyable and I have been procrastinating on getting this done For no reason. I've been putting off pulling out my wisdom tooth for quite some time until the pain became unbearable the past few weeks. My regular dentist (Matthew Lieberman who is also amazing) had referred me to their office and I FINALLY scheduled an appt for my tooth to be extracted last friday. After hearing everyone's horrifying experience of getting their own teeth pulled, I was on edge, anxious and nervous. However, the staff was very pleasant and nice. Dr.Chioncio quickly eased my nerves and made me feel comfortable, was very friendly and attentative. I was able to listen to my music to calm my nerves, the laughing gas kicked in and before I knew it was over. All I really felt was pressure and no pain! Even the day after I didnt not feel pain, just stiffness and tenderness around my jawbone. If felt like someone punched me in my jaw. I was able to eat pasta,mashed potatoes salmon, yogurt, anything soft. The day after my surgery, Dr.Chionchio called to follow up to see how I was feeling. This is going above and beyond in my book in terms of service. I wish all doctors could take notes on how to really take of their patients! You are in GREAT hands when you come here! I know it is hard to say you love your dentist, but this is as good as it gets. I put off having my wisdom teeth out for a little over 20 years, so I wasn't that excited when after a second infection, I decided to finally do it. Way easier than I thought, and it was because of the dentists. I saw Dr. Chionchio, but had one follow up with Dr. Baker as well. Both are great. 1. Easy to book appointments. 2. Less expensive than I thought and on the low end of their estimate. 3. Spent plenty of time explaining everything. Very easy mannerisms 4. The extractions were easy. With the numbing and nitrous, you feel nothing. 5. Personal call from the dentist during your recovery. 6. Free follow up like a week later to make sure my healing was going well. 7. Let me start out by saying that I have been putting off getting my wisdom teeth out for over a year because of how scared I was. I literally have anxiety about anything related to doctors/hospitals/surgery/etc. Dr. Chionchio and his staff made me so comfortable and took away all of my fears. At the first consultation, he and his staff took the time to answer all of my questions regarding my options for the removal and explaining things so that I could understand. They were all so patient and so caring! The day of the surgery I was still a little fearful (even after taking the prescribed Valium). Dr. Chionchio, and his assistants Carmen and Julie, were so caring and took the time to explain what they were doing and how it was going to work. Once they put the Nitrous Oxide on me, I was so relaxed and didn't care about anything! They let you listen to your own music. After what felt like 5 minutes, they sat my seat up. I took my headphone out and asked if we were done! Apparently we were! Just like that! Never got nauseous, no pain at all! I'm writing this the day after surgery. Didn't have to take the prescribed pain killers and had little to no swelling while still icing. Just on Aleve! My fiancé is genuinely shocked at how well I'm doing. I cannot thank the team at Park Slope Oral Surgery enough. I was SOOO afraid and it was a PIECE OF CAKE. I will definitely be going back to them to get the other two out in a month or so! Oh! I've been putting off getting my wisdom teeth extracted for over a year now.. I made appointments with other oral surgeons only to cancel a few weeks prior because I would get so anxious. I finally decided to suck it up and get it done. I researched for top rated oral surgeons on yelp and came across Park Slope oral surgery associates! Dr. Baker was great! He made me feel comfortable and he completely explained everything to me and my mother before doing anything. Then came the actual procedure. Trust me when I say the worse part of the whole thing is getting the local anesthesia shots (and it is not bad at all!). After that I was given the nitrous oxide (laughing gas)!!! I felt like I was either drunk or on drugs.. but it was not a bad feeling! It just relaxes you before the extraction. The gas made me feel a little cold so I was given a blanket to keep warm! :) Within a few minutes, both of my teeth were out! I felt zero pain; only pressure!! Also, because you do hear the sound of the teeth being removed I would suggest listening to music to help with that! Dr. Baker even asked if I wanted to keep my teeth and take them home. Of course I said yes! They gave me Motrin to take immediately, but since I had informed them that I did not eat all day they gave me a cup of apple juice! Once the procedure was done, I was given full instructions on what to do in the upcoming days. I was given gauze pads and an ice pack to take home as well. Even though I was prescribed stronger painkillers and got the medicine just in case, they were not necessary. I had no pain!!! It's unbelievable! Despite this, I still stuck to Advil for a day after just to prevent inflammation. Within hours of the procedure, I was able to eat salmon and broccoli! The next day I even ate bacon, beef and Pringles! I was amazed that I could eat all these foods as I heard it is difficult to eat the following days! Just be careful not to get anything stuck in the stitches. I would definitely recommend anyone going to Dr. Baker! He even gave me a call the night of my extraction to see how I was doing! Let me start from the beginning. My trusted dentist says I need my wisdom teeth out. I tell him I need to be put under to deal with such madness as having teeth pulled out of my head, so he refers me to an oral surgeon. This surgeon, a very kind and mild-mannered young guy working in a pimped out office he shares w/a boob job doc, quotes me at over 4Gs! Reduces my out of pocket to 1G after some negotiation. So, of course, I decide to look elsewhere. As usual, I dont do anything w/o consulting yelp. After reading amazing reviews for Park Slop Oral Surgery, I make an appt and walk on over to the office. Dr Baker, with his calm and friendly disposition, thoroughly examines my grill and explains everything going on inside my mouth. He, a self-proclaimed "wicked conservative," surgeon, suggests I only extract one wisdom tooth as the other three have grown in properly and don't require removal! WTF?! The previous doc at the boob job office didnt make any such statement and wanted what might as well be a million bucks while he was at it! So, after going over costs, which were very, very reasonable, I call back a few wks later to schedule the appt. Day of appt - I am frantic. Sitting in the waiting room sweating and, I regret to admit this, dabbing the tears from my eyes. To my credit, I've been lucky enough to avoid any type of surgery all my life... And the ballads streaming over the satellite radio seemed to strike a chord, as well... Anyways, Dr Baker greets me in the waiting room, tells me to hang tight for a few more minutes, asks if I need anything, and suggests I take half a tablet of Valium to calm my obviously frazzled nerves. About 10 mins later, slightly calmer, I am sitting in the dentists chair, with the assistant strapping the nitrous mask around my face. 5 mins after that, I am feeling great. 4 shots of novacaine and more gas and I am seriously feeling like I am out getting lit at the club!! Dr Baker starts his magic, telling me stories of old school circus crazies gassed up on nos, dental school, and still managing to frequently check in on me to make sure I am doing OK. BUT, I am laughing, completely oblivious to the fact that he is performing surgery in my mouth. What seemed like 10 mins later, gas mask off, and we are done! Just like that. It was incredible. I couldnt have asked for a more amazing experience. It is now about 36 hours since the extraction and I've yet to feel any real pain. Dr Baker is incredible. read more

After reading the reviews here I decided to try the office to have my wisdom extracted. I met with Dr. Chionchio and he was EXCELLENT. He found that I was in medicine and from then on spoke to me like an attending, teaching about what was going on with my teeth. Very warm and friendly and the process was all of 20 minutes! When he was done I was all stitched up with gauze, prescriptions, and instructions and never once used the pain meds!! The next day I was back to normal and feeling fine. I was able to get an consultation/wisdom teeth extraction appointment within a week of my first call to the office. Also, a bonus is that they are open on the weekend, so I didn't have to use up a personal day at work. Let me start off by saying that I was terrified of getting my wisdom teeth out. I must have read every horror story on the internet before I went in this past weekend to get 2 of the 4 pulled, so it was no surprise that I had worked myself up so much that by the time I got to the office, I was in tears, almost at a panic attack-level. The office was lovely and welcoming, and my wait was almost non-existent. The assistant and Dr Baker put me at ease so quickly, walking me through every step, making sure I was very comfortable, explaining the procedure to me. They could have just gone straight to giving me the nitrous oxide, but instead they took their time and I really appreciated that. The procedure itself went very quickly. The whole time, Dr Baker talked to me, cracked a few jokes, and made sure I felt ok. I honestly was a little bummed when it ended, as weird as that sounds. Now, sitting here 30 hours later, I can honestly say that I have had ZERO pain since the procedure, and very little swelling (the majority coming within the first few hours of having them extracted). I can not recommend this place enough. It was just an amazing experience. My visit to Park Slope Oral Surgery was the best experience I've ever had at any doctor's office. I went in earlier today for a consultation about my wisdom tooth (after reading the glowing reviews on yelp) and Dr. Baker said he could take it out right then and there. I thought I'd have to schedule another appointment for the actual surgery weeks later and stress myself out about it the whole time. Some highlights: *Very charming, clean office in a beautiful Union Street brownstone. *Incredibly sweet and patient reception staff. *Kind, caring surgical assistant who did my x-rays and calmed me down once I was in the chair. *Dr. Baker walked me through my x-rays and gave me a great overview of exactly why it was in my best interest to have the tooth out that day, and told me everything he was going to do to get it out. *The Nitrous oxide really helped calm me down. *Dr. Baker administered a few shots of Novocaine that I could barely feel. *Less than 10 minutes and a lot of jokes/laughing later, the tooth was out and I was stitched up! I seriously did not feel a thing. Now, a mere 6 hours later, I'm wondering what I felt so nervous about. Firstly I want to start by saying this was the best experience I have had a dentist in my life. I have anxiety anytime I step into a doctor's office but Dr. Baker made me feel completely comfortable. He explained everything step by step, answered all my questions in full detail without seeming annoyed (I asked a lot), and he was very funny and personable. My husband found the Park Slope Oral Surgery online and then we looked at the reviews on Yelp, which helped me make my decision to make an appointment. I knew I needed two wisdom teeth out and was comforted by some of the comments about the care given to patients. So I went for a consultation and x rays today. Firstly, all the staff were great. I was seen by Dr Baker who was very informative and friendly. I found out I had an abscess on my wisdom tooth, luckily I had that tooth removed today. I had novocaine and didn't feel a thing i was so worried and really it was fine. Pat the nurse was attentive, and Dr Baker was amazing. He phoned me later to check in and the attention to detail was wonderful. I'm going back in for a check and up and will most certainly return to have my second tooth pulled. read more
