I stopped into Tribeca Wine Merchants because they had two hard to find bottles of Brunello di Montalcino. The wines in question were a 2019 Val di Suga, and a 2019 Gaja Pieve. The store associates found the bottles right away, and I was in and out within two minutes. I thought that their prices were a bit high, but hard to find wines are never cheap. Came in for a bubbly tasting bf NYEve. A small store but packed with high quality stuff. They had 4 wines for tasting that nite. Staff were friendly and not pushy. Knowledgeable w/o being pretentious. Very comfortable experience. Definitely a local vibe with folks coming in and out on first name basis but strangers and new faces were still very much welcomed. Took home a bottle of the Billecart Salmon brut that was on sale that nite. Checked out the store and they definitely have many not run of the mill wines. Appreciated the fact they had a website that listed current prices unlike many other NYC stores that don't even have a website. Thank god we found this place ...btw we went into the place searching for a restroom for my son to use .......It was the closest store open with a sign out in this little area of town! ... I love wine specifically New Zealand wines ...so I saw wine and knew we could buy something if needed ... ( but the gentleman told me not to feel pressure to buy as tasting was free!!!! ) That's correct tasting is FREE!!! Long story short the tall gentleman who greeted us was very kind and said sure my son can use it as we were in the area waiting for Ninja restaurant to open and had about 20 mins to kill and not enough time to walk 2-3 blocks to the nearest Starbucks ( which btw not all Starbucks in NYC have a restroom???!!!!) anyways back to the nice gentleman who let my son use the restroom as he was gone for a few mins we walked the shop and he took his time explaining the wines and where they were from to me ... The selection of wines is amazing here price points are all over ..from low to high ... But the most important part is the customer service of the one gentleman who is the taller one ( not the short one with glasses) hoping to call tomorrow and get his name because of him I am writing the review to praise his kindness and helpfulness for me with my kiddo and my wine tasting .. I did buy two wines I would have bought more but we were in town for the day with no more hands to carry the bottles around ! Even though other customers were in the store he made sure to finish his time explaining to me about my questions ..and this was so refreshing as many times sales persons try to juggle a few customers at once and it does not work well usually... The reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because what happened at the very end while I was checking out the shorter gentleman with glasses came up to me and whispered in my ears so my kiddo could not hear that the restroom was not to be used by "public " --- ok well moms and dads now you know who to ask for in the store ! Huge fan. Its a beautiful store with super knowledgeable sales people, and a really friendly vibe. They have lots of very rare wines, but you can still find great bottles in the $10-$30 range. I've been to a couple of their Saturday tastings, which are really fun, and FREE, and a great way to try some new wines without having to risk a purchase. They have wines from around the world, so you can grab a Malbec or a Pinot if you want, but they definitely specialize in French wines, for which they have an especially large selection. Another really special place you can rarely find outside of New York. Highly recommended! read more

This is my favorite wine store in New York. Astor Wine is wonderful, Warehouse often has good prices, the newly relocated Union Square Wine looks pretty nice, Chelsea Wine Vault and Morrell are alright, Crossroads is fun, and Chambers Street Wine is a great neighborhood shop too, but for me, it's Tribeca Wine Merchants. The space itself fits Tribeca perfectly with its combination of neighborhood warmth and upscale sophistication without an ounce of stuffiness. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they're as happy to introduce novices to wine as they are to discuss the details of various winemakers and vintages and all the different intricacies of wine and the winemaking process that you'd expect from the people working in any respectable wine shop. What really sets this place apart for me is the level of quality in their wine offerings. For example, while lots of wine stores do tastings, how many of them do a tasting of two different vintages of Ornellaia? With the winemaker present. And it's a testament to the respect that they get from the neighborhood that they celebrated their recent five year anniversary all week long with food from Nobu, Bouley, Landmarc, and the Odeon. But it's not just the high-end stuff that shines. They have a well-edited selection of wines for under $20 that all seem to be solid, and are perfect for grabbing when you're running out on your way to a dinner party or you just want something to try at home that night. I don't think I've ever taken home a wine from here that I didn't enjoy. And don't be fooled by just what's on display. That's the other thing that makes Tribeca Wine Merchants different. They have access to a lot of private collections, and some of their best offerings won't necessarily be seen on display in the shop. That doesn't mean they're not available to the public, though. Sign up for their email list and they will notify you of new acquisitions, whether it's a $65 bottle of 2003 Paradigm from Screaming Eagle's Heidi Barrett or a $7500 bottle of 1966 Henri Jayer Echezeaux. Furthermore, they seem to do a good chunk of their business outside the confines of the actual store, working as wine brokers to procure rare gems for the discerning connoisseur. Of course, that type of thing comes at a price, so your request better be worth it. Addendum: I forget to mention that Sherry-Lehman is great too, but what I like about TWM is that I see the same handful of people there everytime I go, and most of them seem to have been working there since day one. Many a Saturday afternoons I have wandered into Tribeca Wine Merchants with no of what I want, but leave with my new favorite wine. The problem is that this happens once a week and that means I have a different favorite wine every week. Their wine tastings are extremely educational, with handouts and everything so I can take notes on what I'm learning- really it's just to repeat exactly what I'm hearing to sound smart and sophisticated next time I'm looking to impress (not unlike a parrot). A sommelier I am not. The people are always ready to help and educate. If they're out of what you're looking for, they can easily recommend something similar. They're super friendly and clearly enjoy their jobs- I mean, who wouldn't? There are a couple of great wine shops in Tribeca, but I come here when I want to be taken care of and want to leave excited about my new wines. read more

Not a huge wine person, went in to buy a bottle for a close wine loving friend as a birthday gift. Not only was i shown about 20 different types of bottles based on the preferences I knew, but the person who helped me was SUPER knowledgeable and completely walked me through the process, which was extremely helpful. Ended up picking a nice bottle and was promised my friend would like it. Apparently, the bottle I bought was not only a winner but also a pretty rare short run from some off the rail country side in Italy. It's currently stashed away awaiting a very special occasion. The store specializes in small wine producers from California, Oregon, and Burgundy. The decor mirrors the clientele, with cherrywood shelves reflecting the wealthy financial services clientele who live in the neighborhood. I asked about some region level Burgundy, and the salesperson was able to provide tasting notes and even detailed winemaker commentary for the three bottles within my target price range. After asking him what he thought the best value in the store under $30, he pointed me straight to an Evening Lands 2008 Pinot Noir ($24), a solid entry level Oregon Pinot for a produccer whose higher-level wines have scored 95+ on Robert Parker's notes. As an additional courtesy, he even offered to open it so I could taste. I was floored by the incredible generosity, but apparently this is a service customarily offered. Most of the wines retail at $30+, but they do have a small selection of wines for under $20 if you need to pick up a wine to grab-and-go for dinner. Nevertheless, many of the small vineyards I have not seen in other stores, and despite the higher average prices, you are getting considerable value for wines that have low or no allocation in other wine stores around the city. read more

If I could give them no stars that would be generous!. In Aug of 2013 I paid for futures to be delivered upon release,Oct 2014 or there about. The wine has been released and is in the the stores.When I questioned Ben,who took my order that was paid in full,all I received were lies. Every email to Robert,who is the owner and Ben went unanswered,in addition never was a promised phone call was returned by Ben. Aways came the excuse of email going to spam,or replies that were made up as the dialogue progressed. Tribeca Wine Merchants held my money without regard towards fulfillment of my order. As a last resort I contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge.losing thousands of dollars given the present day value of the wine. The actions,or lack of by Tribeca Wine Merchants is not a way to do business! Anyone reading this who is considering buying futures,should think again.
