I have been here before and yesterday, came in here looking for some sparkling wine of some sort for my New Year's eve at home. I looked around for a bit before asking one of the employees. He directed me to where they had some available. I picked out a small bottle of Prosecco good enough for two to make a toast. Since I was here I also picked up a pint of Bacardi Gold. I find the negative reviews to be funny, because I've worked in wine retail and other parts of the business and it's very clear these people are walking in the store with a ton of emotion. Great selection of back- vintage high end wines, really good Mezcals, and a ton of natural wine. When it comes to wine, I can't rattle off varietals and vintages. Thankfully, the staff at Waverly Wines & Spirits are highly knowledgeable. They're also really friendly. We've been buying wine from these guys since we've been in the neighborhood (+15 years). Their window displays are always nice and attractive. I went in searching for the New York Veuve Clicquot collector's item and the employees went out of their way to help. The New York box was not on the floor, so one of the employee's ran to the backroom in search of it. They graciously asked me to wait and later surfaced with the item I was in search of. I found this place to be a little pretentious. Not once did someone ask if I needed help with anything, which, to me, made it feel like they didn't even care if I was there. They set up a nice area that divides wines up by under $10 and under $20. I'd say overall, though, their wines are definitely over $10. Very elegant ambiance. read more

They've got a small shop here, always the same two gents sitting back behind the register. An okay selection for those people who live close to the area and don't want to walk over to the bigger shops on 14th. My quirk with this store - there's the big fuzzy black Jindo Korean dog here sometimes. I'm not sure that's kosher, but then again you're not eating here -- just to warn people. read more

The store has anything you need. Their employees know their wines and spirits. Always very helpful, pleasant and welcoming. What I like is that they discriminate against me because I'm cheap and I don't spend more than $20 on a bottle of wine (they have amazing $10-15 section where to be honest I spend most of my money. Great little wine store for locals - especially if you take the ACE or BDFM lines to work, since you can easily incorporate regular trips to the well in your daily commute, which, in this economy, I mean, let's be honest, YOU DO. They also have a good number of chilled wines which is always a plus if you want to bring a bottle of white or bubbly to a party at the last minute. I've been a customer here for over a decade, even through its move a few years ago. The owners are friendly and informed, yet they leave you alone and don't pounce on you the second you enter. Love the dog and the family feel. They often have wine tastings which are a great way to find your way to new vineyards. VERY FRIENDLY!!! In a neighborhood where family businesses are dwindling, we need more places like this. read more
