At certain point I asked him to stop insulting me but then he started asking about my nationality. I picked my 1978 Honda CB400TII up from Triborough three months ago, and I am definitely satisfied. (if you want the short version, skip to the bottom) In July, I noticed that the cam chain on the bike was making more and more noise, and my efforts to adjust it didn't seem to be making any improvements. I took it to my local shop at the time, in Emeryville, CA to have it looked at, and they quoted me $2000 dollars to replace the cam adjuster, which was apparently the cause of the problem. Needless to say, I decided to do it myself. It's worth it to mention at this point that I had no real experience wrenching besides changing the oil prior, but the mechanic assured me that I could take off the cylinder heads and change the part out myself. I changed the part, and noticed while the engine was open that it the cam chain slipper was completely gone, so I replaced that, too. When I put the bike together again it wasn't running right; the idle was going wild, and it was certainly not roadworthy. By the time I took it to Triborough, the engine would barely run at all. I feared the worst. Three days later I got the call from Triborough. The bike was fixed. I arrived skeptical, but left thoroughly satisfied. Somehow, in three days and for $300, these talented men had rebuilt the carbs, replaced a rocker arm, and made some adjustments to the shift lever and clutch without even mentioning it. That being said, these men are mechanics first, and customer service reps last. They don't want to answer your questions, they don't want to shoot the breeze, they're definitely more interested in expressing themselves with a wrench than with their mouths. If you're a newbie like myself and you'd like a little explanation with your repairs, there are definitely better places to get educated. But if you need a capable mechanic for the right price, Triborough is the place. read more

It will soon be 20 years that I've been going to Triborough Motorcycles for work. Started out with 70's-era Japanese bikes, then later, more modern fuel-injected Suzi's, then some time on a DRZ. Triborough has been my go-to mechanic since day one. It's clear to me that Mark is running a shop that will be around for a long time. He's not some dude behind a cash register looking to take your money. Instead, you get a feeling that he's actually one of the few guys who is actually looking out for you, and will advise you in case you're not seeing a future problem. Prices are more than fair, and turnaround time consistently is shorter than I expect. I've seen some reviews complaining about one thing or another--customer service, mainly. Well, there's always people like that on yelp who need to recalibrate their expectations to the real world. If you think that your motorcycle/moped experience will be like a trip to the Apple Store to get your screen swapped, you're likely going to have some surprises at any reputable motorcycle shop. No vehicle service should be like that. You want someone who will give you honest answers and do whatever it takes to get you a safe ride. All the five-star reviews here speak to that. After you've been on two wheels for a while (esp. in a place like NYC), you develop a strong sense of who really knows their stuff. It's always nice to know a pro. honestly I understand why this place gets bad reviews... BUT!! as a customer of marks for years and years, and longitme resident and motorcyclist in NYC, I have to defend him from all your bad reviews. First of all, Mark is one of the best, if not THE best, and most knowledgeable motorcycle mechanic in NYC. Also he's probably the most honest I've encountered anywhere. When choosing any sort of mechanic, we all worry about being taken advantage of. Mark's prices never slide depending on how wealthy the customer looks, his prices are extremely fair, and are the same for EVERYONE. That being said, if you have a bad experience with Mark, IT IS BECAUSE YOU ARE ANNOYING AS HELL. Let's face it, if you're writing a yelp review (or reading yelp for that matter) you are most likely white and unforgivably annoying and need WAY too much attention. You also probably riding a vintage motorcycle (vintage bikers, as you surely know, are seen as a joke by the more serious motorcyclists in NYC). This is why Mark seems like he doesn't have time for you. There are enough smart bikers who know what they want WHO DON'T WASTE HIS TIME that HE DOESN'T NEED YOU. But if you are knowledgeable, and don't need a mechanic to hold your pretty wittle hand and stroke your stupid ego through the process of fixing your (probably unfixable vintage bike) then Mark is the man for you... read more

I don't understand why this shop is so many bad reviews I took my motorcycle here for repairs I did not have any issues at all. I had my bike towed in from Manhattan because it did not work I already knew because the bike was sitting for over a year it was a CBR f4i I thought it would probably need a new fuel pump but these guys were able to clean out the fuel pump and they were honest about that I was going to buy 2 new tires but they had two used tires looked almost new and they only charged me 210 for both of them installed. I got my inspection no hassle he had to fix a left turn signal in the back because it was a busted off. he told me that the chain was rusty and had to be replaced I understood that and the price is fair. normally I wouldn't give a5 star review I would say four stars the with all the lies on here I had to give 5 and also my friend had a Vespa and her motorcycle had a band in the rim and these guys were able to save the rim and fix it they're one of the few shops in the area that does rim repairs before you go putting down a motorcycle shop you need to understand one thing the other shops charge more money and they also in the other shops only give you your attitude. if you're looking for a motorcycle shop that will get the job done this shop will do that for you you looking to read a bunch of BS just look down it's all in there. read more

THIS GUY IS RACIST ASF i came in the shop asking for some help if he sold bolts that i needed to put on my self because my brakes where lose and i needed to fix it or else i couldn't move around and my wheel can become more damage if i was to ride around. He come off rudely saying he doesn't fix "CHINESE SCOOTERS" before i even said anything and if i wanted it to be fixed to go else where he gave me a card with an address that was 40 mins away from his TRASHY SHOP and said " If you want me to fix it, it'll be 90 dollars" and i said " i just need bolts if you have any that i can buy im paying you for them there not being giving to me for free" He then said " get out my shop i've already told you i don't fix chinese scooters" I told him i have a motorcycle of my own just cause i'm using this Moped for work doesn't mean i don't ride. If you want the honest truth and appreciate real service, this is the place for you. I bought a 1975 Honda CB400F from an original owner and got it running. However, it needed more work since the bike sat for over twenty years. I was supposed to work on it, but then I lost my property and parking space.....long story short, I cannot work on it like I had anticipated. I went to the bike shops in Astoria, then one shop gave me the contact to Triborough Moto. It's one of the few shops that can work on vintage bikes and not screw you over. I can attest to that. This is not a shop for people who think their money doesn't stink. This is a shop for real bikers, for those who appreciate service and those who actually care about their bike, who wants to ride for real. P.S. What a bunch of crybabies! You give a bad review because the owner doesn't kiss your feet every time you walk in the door? Gimme a break! Fix my bike well and under cost and youre OK with me. I've been going there for over a decade and its my favorite shop, they do great work, which is obvious based on how many customers you always see there (or how many if their bikes are awaiting pickup ) The owner, mark, is a perfectly nice guy he doesn't mince words but I would prefer someone tell me flat out what I need to know rather than someone lie to my face to build a customer base. Only reason I don't go as much as I used to is the distance from where I currently live. I wouldn't recommend this shop if you're looking to buy a new bike or more equipment, its mostly just a few mechanics fixing bikes. Last Friday I got a flat rear tire on my Ninja and was looking for a good place to replace it. I impulsively bought the tire the next day at another dealer but did not want to pay their price for installation. I took the tire to Triborough (which was the closest to me than any other shop), and for a great price they installed the tire in minutes and I was able to enjoy a sunny weekend of riding (that tire is broken in completely after one day! LOL) Mark was absolutely no nonsense and very professional. Now I'm kicking myself for not calling Triborough first - they had the rear in stock!
