We hired Trico to paint our cabinets at a previous home and were happy with the results. In our current home, a different contractor working on our backsplash damaged the paint on a section of cabinets and agreed to cover the cost of the repair. We contacted Trico, and they quoted a $3,500 minimum, which given the process of painting cabinets, I understand. However, when I explained the situation and asked for an email stating the minimum, they said it would be "unethical to charge that to another contractor" and refused the job. The other contractor told me they understood entirely, so what exactly is unethical? My takeaway is that Trico is there for the big jobs and has zero interest in anything else, which is disappointing as customer that paid for one of those big jobs. EDIT: In response to the owner's reply below, I want to be clear that I'm not trying to misrepresent anything here. I was trying to hire Trico to repair the cabinets. They refused the job only after they learned I'd be reimbursed by another contractor, which I truly just don't understand. read more

Keep looking. Did not want to write this-but the way this went down still doesn't sit right. Hired them to paint kitchen cabinets/baseboards. They ruined brand new cabinet doors, left paint all over/damaged brand new hardwood, and primer on tile. I lost count of the attempts we allowed them to get it right -but they couldn't deliver and it doesn't matter because they walked away from the job after labeling us "picky" customers. -Their personnel fighting amongst themselves at our home and not showing up hurts the product the customers are paying for. -Project manager was initially pleasant, but the second I had questions- I was told , "We aren't making money on this job." -Owner assured me he would make it right by sending his best painter- but changed his mind and did not complete the job. To their credit they gave us our money back and payed for the damaged cabinets-but over a month later still finding paint everywhere. Just ok. Their rep Marcus was very friendly and easy to work with. He listened to my needs and helped walk me through all of my questions, which I appreciated. He was sometimes a little hard to get a hold of, but he's client facing all day so understandable. They do have a longer warranty than other painters, which is a plus. The paint crew leader, Guadalupe was great very knowledgeable and a hard worker. The rest of the crew, left something to be desired. Throughout the project I was checking on the progress. There were lots of missed areas, especially top trims on windows. I ended up using a ladder to check all of our windows, and some I just fixed myself. Our siding is wood and the bottom edges were never sprayed by them. I've gone back and done a lot of it myself by hand. I did have them come back out to fix a few things and the guy sent out just did sloppy work. Rushed through the asks, painted right over chipped paint instead of scraping it and then painting. There are still some spots I need them to come back out and fix, they insisted they were imperfections in the wood, but I checked and nope, it's paint bubbles and chip/peeling paint. The crew was messy throughout the process, lots of trash everywhere. There was a good amount of overspray on our plants and dirt against the foundation. The project was very rushed at the end, which didn't sit well with me. A wood siding house just takes more time, I wish they had taken that into account. Marcus did want to ensure I was satisfied with the job, so that's nice. But, the more time i've had to look over the paint job the more issues I have seen and just handled myself to save on trying to schedule with Trico. read more

I've had Trico out for a bid on exterior painting of my current home and had regretted not using them. Now that I'm considering moving, I decided to call for a ballpark estimate on what it would cost to paint a similar sized house with no dry rot. I even told the receptionist / coordinator (Jenny) that she could give me the higher end of average estimate for a house that size. She was totally professional until this point, and had even asked me where the house was located. She then said, "$20,000 to $30,000 should cover that kind of project, ok my phones ringing," and hung up on me. I called her back, and objectively told her that I was genuinely considering using her company, but due to her facetious attitude, she's cost her company my business and any potential references I could have sent her way. If providing this kind of information is contrary to your policy, then simply say so. Don't proceed as if you're going to and then hang up on a lead. I don't wish ill for her, only that she reconsiders her attitude and its long term affects on her company. read more

I had been reading reviews on Facebook about Trico for some time and everyone said how amazing they were. When we were ready to paint, we had 3 bids for the exterior and cabinet painting. Trico's estimates were right in the middle (not the cheapest and not the most expensive). We decided to go with Trico because of their amazing reviews, and they did NOT disappoint! Their workers showed up on time, they were courteous, cleaned up after themselves, left the job site sparkling when they were done and their workmanship was top notch! I really looked closely for things they missed or needed to be touched up after they were done, but couldn't find any! The cabinets took 3 days to paint and the exterior took another 3 days. We could have had both done at the same time (they would have sent 2 different crews) but we decided to have them done separately. Trico will work with you and you are even able to get a few sample colors to try out at no charge once the contract is signed! We worked with both Tim and Marcus for estimates, and they were our "go too" guys. Marcello and Lazaro were our foreman and both were amazing as well! I am SO happy I didn't go with the first bid I received to have the exterior of our house painted! Trico was around the same price (only $20 more), but Marcus REALLY sold it for us. He is such a nice & funny guy. No bs. Upfront. On time. Quick to respond. Great listener. Very personable. They really need to keep him on the front line!! I wish we could bottle his charisma lol I contacted them for a quote, Marcus came out a few days later, I signed the contract the same day and had an appointment for a start date the very next day. Four days later, our house was being painted. The painter's did an AMAZING job and Marcus checked in with them and us multiple times throughout each day (it was a 2 1/2 day job). I've found out the hard way that housing contractors are extremely hit and miss, sometimes even when they have positive Yelp reviews. I'm happy to say that Trico is definitely a hit, their professionalism and expertise were consistent from start to finish. I got 4 estimates, Trico by far had the most competitive package of price and reputation. I had the entire interior of my house painted (walls, ceilings, trim, doors, cabinets, garage, etc). Also, they corrected some mistakes that my flooring contractors made with the baseboards. They were very careful in protecting all of my things for the job. I did have a couple issues with the paint job... but Tim immediately went above and beyond to fix everything. I mention it because one of the most defining aspects of a good business is how they react to you when there is a problem. It's very reassuring to know that Trico has strong values and business ethics to make sure they perform exactly as advertised. I recently contacted Trico for a cabinet painting estimate. Marcus came out and I was very impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. I received their quote in a timely manner and decided to accept. After paying a deposit, I received numerous emails asking for payment, even after contacting the office to let them know I had already paid. I booked a non refundable trip so my family would be out of the house while the painting took place (keep in mind this was their suggestion due to the scope of work) and when I called the front desk to find out how I could arrange to get my keys back when we returned I was advised that if I was not present on the last day of the job for a final walk through I could be charged upwards of $1,000. That included $350 to send someone out, plus fees for touch ups if necessary. Keep in mind, those touch ups would have been due to their error. I'll admit I missed the $350 fee in the initial contract, but truth be told this company sends out numerous, ridiculously lengthy and confusing emails, and some of the information contained in those emails doesn't even apply to your job. It was impossible to keep up. After the (very rude) receptionist explained these fees to me, I was almost in tears and she told me that maybe their company just wasn't a good fit for me. I had one or two emails with someone who I assume was the owner, who offered no help. I asked for a refund of my deposit and was denied, of course. I made it 100% clear that I was cancelling the contract, and on the day the work was originally scheduled I got a call from Marcus....who was outside with their crew ready to work. Obviously, there is complete lack of organization and communication going on somewhere. Bottom line, go elsewhere if you're looking for good customer service. Their receptionist is rude, unorganized and makes it seem like they're doing you a favor if they work with you. I eventually contracted another painter for our job, and when I told them I wouldn't be home for the final walk through they said no problem! If there's an issue we'll send someone out right away to do touch ups....no charge. As it should be, if they made a mistake. read more

Tricor appeared to have relatively good reviews, when looking for a local painting contractor, so I went ahead and had them do a complete paint job to the interior of my newly purchased home. At first, the supervisor delivered insufficient paint supplies, and the paint was not as I had specified (they never told me what kind of paint they were going to use). Well, okay then, fair enough. My contract specified that they would "prime" dark-colored walls. They did not use primer. They did a VERY light coat of the main wall paint. Consequently, I have uneven coverage. I specified semi-gloss in the bathrooms and laundry . . . they used the eggshell that they were using throughout the house. The doors they painted only once, and totally missed the underside of the reveals (so had to hand paint myself). When I asked if they would prep and clean all the walls, and the jambs/mouldings of the roughness, they did not. Many of my bathrooms surfaces have bubble holes. Having worked in the Sonoma/Santa Rosa area, I would never have seen this low of quality work, and for the money that I spent, would not recommend this company. read more
