I fell off a ladder cleaning.
    Laura S.

The ER doctor and the staff were fantastic. They attended to my needs and helped me as best as they could. Unfortunately for me on March 21,2021 I was told the ice machine was out of order. I was in shock and disbelief. I was told I had 3 broken bones, CT can revealed a total of 9 broken bones. I got a shot, 1 Norco pill, a prescription for 15 Norcos, a splint and sent on my way. To my shock and disbelief I was billed over $6200. If this is the best this facility can for that kind of money, I definitely need to take my business elsewhere.

ER Bill for stomach ache (doesn't include doctor and radiologist). This is why insurance costs so much.

5 stars for the staff at this hospital and their passion to care for patient. 0 (zero) stars for their billing and greed. Was recently there in the ER due to stomach spasms (ache) and got some saline solutions, a CT scan, and to lay in a covey (not room) in the ER for about 2 hours. After which was discharged with a prescription. Well today I see they billed $13,353.00 for that visit. Sure my insurance had a set rate and paid $4,807.20 after that; leaving me owing $1,201.80 for the short time in the ER. If only I had utilized an ambulance service I could have met my out of pocket maximum for the year. But since they charge so much I guess they'll have to take payments from my HSA over the next year, since I only spend non-taxed money on healthcare; hopefully they'll settle. We always ask why insurance costs so much, why is healthcare so much. Well it's greed!

MEDICAL BILLING FRAUD…read more Charged $388 for a standard annual well-woman exam that should've been free. I had to pay $388 out-of-pocket to avoid the bill (that I should never have received) going to collections. MUSC said I should be reimbursed eventually, but over a month has gone by. According to my health insurance company, MUSC has not taken any action to resolve the issue. Fraudulent billing. PSA: All women with health insurance are entitled to free annual well-woman exams under the Affordable Care Act. The exam needs to be billed correctly as preventative care.

Some healthcare facilities here clearly just push patients through and you barely get 5 minutes of the doctor's time. You won't get that at Carnes Crossroads Primary Care, or any MUSC facility for that matter. Dr. Bigelow was highly recommended to us. He has very good bedside manner and I appreciate that he actually takes the time to listen to what is going on. Plus the MUSC MyChart app is very useful for tracking test results and for communicating with your healthcare team. The only problem that I have is that everyone else in the area must be going here too because it's near impossible to get a same day appointment. I was told if you are sick you can almost always get an appointment same or next day, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. For example, my son has a possible infection and called 8am Monday morning to schedule an appointment and the earliest they could see him was Wednesday at 4pm. So it's kind of a catch 22: you'll great health care here but only if they have the time to see you. Even with that, I highly recommend going here.

The provider was very knowledgeable (I'm a physician myself) and they had us in and out in 30 minutes with a plan and a prescription (my son was seen for sting-ray envenomation). I was very impressed and couldn't wait to give them 5 stars.

No options for the patient, only demands from the provider. 2. They will nag you to death; doesn't matter if you're dropping the kids off, trying to get to work, etc. They sent six texts, two emails, and two phone calls an hour and a half. Nobody likes being chased down like that! 3. We're all busy, but they still insist you do their bidding / fill in forms on your phone /show up early and then wait, etc. And you can't get information about your co-pay until you've gone through thier lengthy process. (Why not ask for the insurance card first, check it, and verify the co-pay rather than wasting everybody's time?) 4. Once there, the check in process is even more "you will do what we tell you to," and if you haven't registered on your phone by now, you are told to fill in a form on a tablet which includes biometrics, which are all about a much heavier level of tracking. I refused and walked out... 5. ... after which they continued to chase me down by phone. What part of "NO" do you not understand? Because you clearly don't understand the difference between customer service and servitude by the customer. Horrible.

My family's experience during pregnancy care and delivery here was deeply mixed. There were…read moreindividual caregivers who were exceptional, but the overall system and process left us disappointed and, frankly, shaken. During high-risk screenings, we raised specific concerns about potential complications. Rather than feeling heard and evaluated in a focused way, the process felt standardized and procedural. We were given strong reassurance that certain conditions were not present, only to discover immediately after birth that one of those exact conditions was, in fact, present. Communication during follow-up screenings was also confusing. Important findings were shared casually and without context. We were moved through additional monitoring without clear explanation of what was being evaluated, what the risks were, or why certain decisions were being made. The experience felt checklist-driven rather than patient-centered. After delivery, the lack of coordination and condition-specific knowledge became more concerning. We received confident assurances about feeding and care approaches that later proved unrealistic given our child's medical needs. Some staff were clearly trying their best, but others spoke with certainty about issues they did not fully understand. Our newborn was handled and examined at times without meaningful explanation or discussion. For a family navigating unexpected medical complexity, that lack of clarity adds unnecessary stress. There were also smaller but telling process issues. For example, the hospital seemed unprepared to accommodate a vegetarian diet. Food orders were repeatedly incorrect despite clear communication about dietary preferences. While this may seem minor compared to medical care, it reflects broader coordination and communication gaps that were noticeable throughout our stay. That said, I want to clearly recognize the caregivers who made a meaningful difference. Emma, Lauren, Melisa, Susana, Suzi, Emily, Holly, Riley, and Jenn were compassionate, patient, and professional during an incredibly vulnerable time for our family. They treated us with dignity, listened to our concerns, and approached our baby with gentleness and care. Their empathy and steadiness did not go unnoticed. Kerstin, the occupational therapist who worked with us on feeding challenges, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable, calm, and deeply invested in helping us navigate a complex situation. She listened carefully, adjusted her approach thoughtfully, and demonstrated humility and genuine curiosity. That mindset made a profound difference in our experience and reflects what patient-centered care should look like. What ultimately left a lasting impression was not a lack of technology or medical capability, but what felt like a systemic process issue. Too often, the experience felt driven by routine protocols rather than individualized listening and critical thinking. When hospitals rely heavily on standardized workflows without tailoring them to patient concerns, families can feel unheard and underserved. There are clearly compassionate professionals working here, and several of them had a very positive impact on us. However, the broader communication and coordination gaps significantly affected our trust. I hope this feedback is received constructively and used to improve transparency, individualized care, and condition-specific preparedness for future families navigating high-risk pregnancies and unexpected diagnoses.
