MEDICAL BILLING FRAUD Charged $388 for a standard annual well-woman exam that should've been free. I had to pay $388 out-of-pocket to avoid the bill (that I should never have received) going to collections. MUSC said I should be reimbursed eventually, but over a month has gone by. According to my health insurance company, MUSC has not taken any action to resolve the issue. Fraudulent billing. PSA: All women with health insurance are entitled to free annual well-woman exams under the Affordable Care Act. The exam needs to be billed correctly as preventative care. read more

My son's PCP is at Carnes Crossroads. I've been very pleased with the level of care that MUSC has provided him over the years, and their facility at Carnes Crossroads is equally great. Some healthcare facilities here clearly just push patients through and you barely get 5 minutes of the doctor's time. You won't get that at Carnes Crossroads Primary Care, or any MUSC facility for that matter. Dr. Bigelow was highly recommended to us. He has very good bedside manner and I appreciate that he actually takes the time to listen to what is going on. Plus the MUSC MyChart app is very useful for tracking test results and for communicating with your healthcare team. The only problem that I have is that everyone else in the area must be going here too because it's near impossible to get a same day appointment. I was told if you are sick you can almost always get an appointment same or next day, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. For example, my son has a possible infection and called 8am Monday morning to schedule an appointment and the earliest they could see him was Wednesday at 4pm. So it's kind of a catch 22: you'll great health care here but only if they have the time to see you. Even with that, I highly recommend going here. read more

The building is brand new and is conveniently located about 5 miles away from downtown Summerville so you can avoid that nasty Summerville congestion. I typically go to Flowertown Primary Care but it can be difficult to get in. They scheduled me at this location instead and I was quite pleased. Dr. Bigelow was thorough. I was having an allergic reaction and he took his time to conduct research before offering a treatment plan. He spent some quality time reviewing my chart to be sure he understood my medical history and then explained his reasoning for the treatment plan. I didn't feel rushed or unheard at all. This was such a good experience that I may be changing doctors. read more

I have never been to a primary care place in my life. I always just go to the "doc-in-the-box", get my z-pack for whatever, and move on... I WILL NEVER BE BACK. Seriously. Carnes Crossroads was incredible. I walked into my appointment (that I made THAT MORNING) and immediately was greeted by the receptionist. I had previously filled out a lot of the paperwork online, so I just had to sign a few things. I couldn't even finish that before they called me back - talk about prompt! I was most thrilled that everyone genuinely seemed to take an interest in my health (something I have yearned for for far too long). The nurse was chatty and friendly, asking me about my history and then my weekend plans. The doctor came in very quickly and immediately sat down and got to work. I have always felt rushed in the past, but I spent a good hour or so here making sure everything that needed to be done could be. She was great, from collecting more information to delving in and explaining why she did or didn't think some things applied. They ran some tests (thank goodness I had Burns there - I DO NOT do needles) and did some xrays. I downloaded the MyChart app on my phone and had access to all of my test results that afternoon. I even sent a message over via the app about something non-urgent and got a reply the same day! The building is spotless and smells new inside still (my favorite). The waiting room is comfortable, but you won't be spending a lot of time there. The phlebotomist I saw was extremely professional and was understanding on my extreme needle phobia, so she was patient with me and talked me through everything as it was going.
