After trying many other salons and barbershops, this is the place where my teenage son finally found the haircut and fade of his dreams. Their prices are reasonable, the shop is pretty trendy, sort of industrial. And we always laugh because they don't waste time with a lot of chitchat and small talk. In the case of my son and husband, they absolutely love that they are not pulled into awkward small talk. Don't get me wrong, they are perfectly professional and polite, but it is all business. I waited 6 months to get a haircut because of COVID, and when I was looking for a barbershop I searched for one that took safety precautions to minimize virus spread. Booking online was straight forward. I found the place to be clean and the staff all wore masks while also maintaining customers more than 6 feet apart. I enjoyed the decor and my barber, Katie, was very nice and professional. She took the time to hear exactly how I wanted my haircut and truly delivered. This was one of the best haircuts I have had since moving to MD. I struggled trying to decide on how many stars to give this barbershop since the hair cut was on point. Unfortunately, I also got more than just a haircut. I got what they call barbers rash that first started as irritated skin and red bumbs were my barber had shaved my neck. This is my first time experiencing this so I was unsure what it was at first. The picture is 5 days later from the haircut and it's looking like a staph infection is brewing. Home remedies have yet to work so I may need to seek medical help. read more

I've had bad to a few amazing experience with multiple barbershops, from California to Texas and then Maryland I just moved in and this barbershop is my first pick. I relied on the reviewers' pictures than their words. I am happy to say Garrett did a fantastic job on my hair! Comb over with soft part and layers ( not to make it looks like choppy like several barber I had in past.) I shall return for my next appointment. I'll start by saying I have tried to give this place a chance on multiple occasions and have tried almost every barber in the shop. I require a simple fade while leaving enough on top to part to the side. Every haircut from here has left me with inconsistent lines and weird patches of length. This recent haircut will be the last time I am willing to give them a try as now I will need to find someone to fix my terrible cut. Also, it's a barbershop... maybe I'm old fashion but what ever happened to using a razor and offering a hot towel to clean off loose hair at the end of a cut? read more

I don't generally give five-stars but this place deserves it and then some. The shop is super clean, really well decorated and feels very welcoming. There is always someone ready to help you and make you feel comfortable, which to someone like me who is a little socially anxious is an incredible thing. I've been coming to Tried and True since I needed to cut my very long hair for a job interview. Garrett hooked me up and was friendly, professional, kind, and best of all: a fantastic barber. I've returned many times since and plan to continue! I'd recommend this place to anyone! Spending my money here feels great and I always leave feeling well taken care of, and really happy with my haircut. Given this place 5 tries because it's got a cool vibe. Every time I go there are new people. Most recently got a 14 min haircut, and I have short sides and longer hair up top. Left with wet hair and wasn't offered product or anything. The left and right side of my haircut is never equal. I would expect this from sport clips but idk not a $30 cut in my opinion. read more

If you are looking for a legit barbershop in Frederick, this is your spot. I walked in in desperate need of a hair cut and beard trim and Carl was able to see me in between his appointments. I'm not the best at giving hair cut descriptions but he did what real pro would do, and ran with it. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a hair cut. I think they spent a lot of time and energy on decorating the place and making it a cool hang out for customers (and them). The place is really great looking and very comfortable. What I don't care for is the actual hair cuts themselves. I took my 5-yr old and I got a cut and beard trim myself. My cut was ok, very reminiscent of the hair style I got when I was in the military. I feel like these guys can do a decent job on the skin fade styles with hard part comb overs, but anything else and they're not there yet. My kid's haircut was awful...to the point where I'm contemplating just buzzing his head. The bangs/front part is crooked and he has a cowlick on the top/back/center of his hair and if you don't cut those correctly, they just stick straight up. It's just something that I would expect a seasoned barber to know. I appreciate their entrepreneurship, but the cost relative to the quality of service is really unbalanced. To put it bluntly - I paid $71, not including tip. I could have gone to multiple other barbershops in the same area and paid a third of that and gotten as good, if not better haircuts. But hey, free beer, right? read more

I started going to Citizen in early 2015 until it closed briefly early 2017... Daniel took over and has made the place way way cooler and more of a place you wanna be. Tyler has been fixing me up since last October and I've got nothing but good things to say about his work and attention to detail. This place also has two beer taps and a pool table, if you've got some extra time. Give em a shot, I think you'll be glad you did. read more

As you open the door into the hidden gem that is "Tried and True" you feel a warm and slightly nostalgic mood sweep across you. Maybe it's the sound of music playing, the sweet smell of aftershave or the laughter and conversation that fills the upstairs. Or it could simply be the walls that are covered in signs, flags, retro barber posters, lamps etc. The feeling is nice and unlike any other barber shop I have been to. It's genuine but more importantly it's real. These guys know what they are doing and I think the name speaks for itself. The owner, Daniel, has put a lot of hard work into the shop and it shows. Service: Absolutely out of this world. Two days ago I had an appointment with Tyler and instantly felt at home in his chair. I was greeted with a smile and a gentle handshake, a pleasant surprise. The conversation was very friendly and he made sure to know exactly how I wanted my haircut done before starting. I came in as a walk in met Tyler. I was able to get a cut and shave right away. Personable, asked questions to find out exactly what I wanted. Very professional and very personable. I have tried a few places in downtown and none of them clicked with me. Either the cuts weren't that great or the customer service was lacking. Tried and true had both quality and customer service.
