Thu cut my hair. I dont think his English was the best because when I attempted to explain I wanted it short on the sides, and longer upstairs....he kept snipping and snipping....and you guessed it, some more snipping. He buzzed one patch of my hair on the side and showed me the length up close with his mirror. That was cool, but when I said "a little shorter" I guess he assumed my whole noggin. The thing about haircuts, once its cut, its cut. Now dont get me wrong, I am all for anyone starting a business. But it is a but irritating when there is a language barrier. Worst haircut and awful customer service. I said that I did not want it to be too short and she did not listen at all! She used the wrong size razor and made it extremely short and uneven. No apologize whatsoever! In addition, other than wearing a mask, COVID practices were nonexistent. I had to ask her to clean the space between customers and she did not wash her hands between customers. Will never return! read more

Jade and Kim are in Damascus and eager to make a good impression. Based on my hair cut, a great impression was the results. Jade gave superior attention to detail then I usually receive from most other barbers. Not only that, the shop was closed being that this was Monday their normal day closed; they spotted my disappointment as I turning around after seeing the closed sign and called me in. Now that is special. They are also open routinely on Sundays. Oct 2017 update. I took my 87 year old father-in-law for a haircut and shave to see Jade. I went yesterday (Sunday). The two ladies are sisters, and I think they did a wonderful job with my hair. I also got a shave, and that was nice aswell. They do straight razor. I showed her a picture of the haircut, that I wanted and she got it spot on. She was even kind enough to cut my hair at a length were you wouldn't see the scars on the back of my head. I told her I liked a closer look and she was ok with redoing it. Some barbers and hairstylists get frustrated when one tells them to change something during the middle of a cut. P.S. I think this is the only barbershop actually open on Sundays. The rest of them are false advertising on google. 23$ bucks for a cut and shave is great by the way. read more

Jade always gives me the best cut and exactly the way I like it. She takes her time no matter how many people are waiting so you feel your getting your moneys worth. Both Jade & Kim are very nice and always make you feel they appreciate your business. There's no comparison to the chain stores that are bound by corporate restrictions when it comes to special requests. And unbelievably they are less expensive. You'll definitely leave a generous tip. Olde School Barber, and I mean that in a good way. Women go to a hair stylist, but most men prefer a BARBER, and J&K is what a barber is meant to be. They treat their customers like gentlemen. They're licensed, skilled and don't rush through a cut. I went yesterday for a trim and benefited from a true barbershop experience which I haven't seen in this country in years, complete with a straight razor finish, eyebrow trim (which becomes pretty important when you're a man my age!) and neck massage. They even made sure my ears were clean before letting me out of that chair! NO JOKE! They cleaned my ears man! Who does that any more? They don't want their customers walking out looking like slobs. And how much did I pay for this super premium classic barbershop experience? FIFTEEN DOLLARS!! Women often spend $75 at a hair stylist and get treated like cattle. J&K treats a man like a civilized gentleman. They even offer a hot towel, full lather and straight razor shave if you're inclined. In my mind being able to use a "cut-throat" without actually cutting the throat of your customer is a sign of a true professional barber who takes his/her craft seriously. Plus they even gave me a free comb! When I was a boy that was pretty standard, but I haven't seen a barber do that in years! They're what barbershops used to be, not fancy and soft, just a good cut at a good price with the traditional touches we should all demand from our barbers. Not sure what recommendations I could possibly have to make this place even better for a gentleman, they seem to have the secret sauce, perhaps whiskey and cigars, but that's not likely! read more

When we moved to Damascus my husband had to leave his go to spot in Takoma Park. He tried a few places in town and was not happy...until he found Jade! He was a last minute walk-in at closing time, they stayed open, and gave him an awesome haircut. He said she was all about customer service, very friendly, took her time making the cut perfect. I took my 2 boys today and I regret it so much. I showed them a picture of the desired look and instead got way too short uneven hair. Despite the language barrier, I tried to respectfully ask them to layer and even out the hair. They gave the most choppy horrible layering job I've seen. I politely pointed out again the picture of the haircut I asked for. They responded by yelling at me in their language and dismissing my request. The man was so unprofessional I still paid, and gave a 5$ tip to each stylist and hope that Karma will make its way. I learned today the nicer you are the more poorly people treat you at this place. One person who was sitting next to me left after seeing the way they treated me, and they accused me of making them lose business! I walked out in tears over the butcher job they did, and all they did was snicker and call me a stupid American. Please avoid this place. read more
