Avoid TONY like the plague. It wasn't a haircut, it was a hack job. Zero skill, zero technique, just buzzing away with ONLY electric clippers because he clearly can't actually barber. The fade was an embarrassment and the top looked like he gave up halfway through, he's constantly distracted, never fully present with his clients. To top it off, I later learned he's operating without a license, which honestly explains the entire experience. He likely couldn't pass the license test, among other personal reasons. Tony has mastered his craft and his professionalism, calm personality, and expertise made my sons experience a positive one. My son was relaxed and Tony's gentleness my him more at ease. We called the store owner, who said he could not fix it because different people were working in the store, and that guy was not there. I could have been more helpful. We are new to the area, and my husband hasn't quite found a place that he likes to get his and our son's haircut. So I decided I to find a place to get our son's haircut. I decided to check out this barber shop. They were super cool, and was willing to take us as a "walk-in". It wasn't busy because it was a Wednesday afternoon which was perfect for me. I had the worst experience here after being referred by a reputable barber in Gaithersburg. First, the cut is for my 4 yo. The barber not only assures me he can cut my son's hair the way his usual barber does (who's out on paternity leave) but "waaaay better than that." I ask him fade the sides and back don't take off his length. First thing he does...TAKES OFF ALL THE LENGTH FROM THE BACK. Smh. 8 months of growth gone in 2 seconds bc of a cocky, egotistical barber--Mark is his alleged name. He then takes more length off the top. Long story short my lil man got a lopsided hightop with subpar fading. Now, this other side on there is being loud and stupid. Aight, fine. It's a barber shop and I'm used to it--to a certain limit. "Marcus" is the drunk who literally left and came back HIGH FROM SMOKING WEED stinking up he whole shop and stood next to my four year old with his pungent odor acting unprofessional "barber" who goes on a rant about how BLACK his client is (who's the same complexion as me). He doesn't stop there he keeps on with the typical "blackie" jokes riddled with the N word and other profanities. ALL IN FRONT OF MY FOUR YEAR OLD SON. As a black mom w a son of a lighter complexion than me I was highly offended. Not because "Marcus" discriminated against my skin tone because he's "light skin" (even referring to the dark client as "ugly" because he's "so black") but because it perpetuates a negative stereotype of interracial bigotry and bias. Something I didn't think I'd have to explain to my four year old who was just there to get a hair cut. I paid, in full. And tipped well. As a lesson learned. I will never go back there but I have no problem paying. Started out late for the appointment but Tony was courteous about it. He called me prior to the appointment to let me know he would be late. When he arrived he apologized and welcomed me to his shop. The haircut experience was relaxing. Surrounded by trophies for exercising haircutting skills with excellence, for my first time in his chair, I felt confident and comfortable. He did a really good job and I'm glad he did. Finally I can have a barber who is not too far away, cuts really well and is clean in his use of language. Thank God. Moved to Frederick MD recently and realized I would be starting from the bottom when it comes to finding the right barber to maintain my image. I believe I lucked out on my first try. Yesterday Monk from "the one and only" tighten a bro up with a regular. He also gave me some good suggestions for the up coming holiday. To me your barber suppose to be more than just a good technician of hair, but in my opinion should be versed in a variety of topics (sports, current affairs, life, etc.) from which to spark an interesting conversation adding to the overall experience. Great experience, fun atmosphere (its a barber shop), comfortable, everyone was nice. Tony did a wonderful job on my hair. He's a cool dude, he was in costume. Where do I begin...I've known Tony for 3 years and he was the best! Then...appointment times were missed with some nonchalant excuse and when I arrived, there was always someone in the chair. His clipper needed to be replaced...for a business owner, he should replace them regularly. For all of you reading this, just be aware of what you're getting into. Great old fashioned shop. The guys are very detailed and will make you look good. Be aware though, they are very slow. I recommend them if you have some time to kill. Took about 1 hour for 1 regular haircut including the wait time. read more
