I went to Wastler's because I needed to find a new shop in the area who were (a) well reviewed and (b) skilled with scissor techniques for Men's hairstyles. I specifically booked with Wes based on some online reviews. I showed Wes a photo of what I was looking for, and explained that I was trying to grow my beard out but only wanted a cleanup. Without asking any questions (or saying anything at all, really), he proceeded to give me a very quick (15 minute) haircut and severe beard trim, neither of which were at all what I asked for. I now have to find another shop who can salvage what he did. I added a star because the shop was neat and efficient, and they clearly have a lot of happy customers. If you're looking for a simple short cut, I expect you'll do fine. But don't go there expecting them to actually listen to what you want, because clearly efficiency was a higher priority for Wes than giving me what I actually asked for. read more

I got a haircut, today, and a beard trim. I did not catch the girl's name who did the job, but she is very good at what she does! Takes her time. Very easy to talk to. My beard was cut a bit shorter than I wanted (my fault for not clarifying) but after a good look in the mirror, I actually really like the result! Everything is so clean and even, all around! Hands down worst haircut I've received since my dad cut my hair when I was 5 years old. That was 55 years ago so covers a lot of haircuts. Don't know if my barber had ever been trained to cut hair but if she had she was at the bottom of her class. If your're looking for a men's haircut requiring any more skill than running a razor up and down and around your head - think first day if bootcamp - then I would steer clear. read more

Don't let the old world decor fool you - This is a great spot for a hair cut, beard trim, or a shave (or all three). Wastlers may have been the spot where grandpa once got his haircut, but they're quite capable of cutting hair to any style the client would want - including barber-style cuts for women. I've had my hair cut as well as beard trimmed and a hot shave from Patrice and Anna for years and they're both great. I first got my hair cut by Patrice when she was at Citizen Frederick, which has since closed. When Patrice went to Wastlers, I gladly followed. Wastlers is also a great spot for kids hair cuts. I've been taking my son with me for 3 years now (he's 5). Another really nice aspect is that their pricing is honest and the quality is excellent for what you pay. At no point will you feel like you didn't get your money's worth and I can say first hand that they're all very in tune with their clients. Other barbershops may charge 40-50 bucks for the same haircuts, but Wastlers isn't about that. Trust me, if your head and face need tamed, go to Wastlers. Then, when you're feeling dapper, be like me and walk around the corner and pick up a Mortadella and Provolone from Juliet's. read more

What's not to love about the downtown barber shop with old-style chairs and blue/red barber pole? Frederick men (and moms) seem to love this place, because I don't think I've ever walked in here - at various times midweek - where there hasn't been several people or families ahead of me, and several after me by the time I'm done.
