My personal favorite pho on University, where there are dozens of choices available. Broth is clear and clean tasting with plenty of warm spices. Proteins all served at correct doneness in the Pho Dac Biet so you get the tougher cuts well done and rendered and the thin steak raw so it cooks in the broth. Great side accompaniments, Thai basil still on the stalk and living, fresh bean sprouts, Sri Racha and chiles in oil depending on your tastes, squirt bottle of hoisin. The only tiny nitpick I have is I wish they had bigger spoons available for those of us who like to mix sauces and soup in the spoon instead of muddying up the bowl. Also Vietnamese coffee is prepared old fashioned, not in a boba cup where you can't tell if it was made just now or weeks ago. Great service. I gave Trieu Chau another try. I got the pho tai gan. I prefer savory pho, and their broth was sweet so I added in a lot of sriracha and fish sauce. I liked it much more. The flank steak was good and the tendons were very chewy and tough. I couldn't eat any of the them, unfortunately. The service was good and I like how it's a mom and pop restaurant. I kept seeing people recommend this spot as having some of the best pho in the Twin Cities, so we finally decided to check it out for ourselves. We were able to find free street parking nearby, because of parking lot renovations. As soon as we sat down, our waitress made sure we had everything we needed, including chili oil and sriracha for us. She checked in on us throughout our meal without being overbearing and made us feel very welcome. Since it was our first visit, we appreciated that we never felt rushed to order and had plenty of time to look over the menu. The pho was really solid. I loved the clear, deep flavorful broth, and the Vietnamese coffee was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. Unfortunately, they were out of bánh mì during our visit, but honestly that just gives me another reason to come back. Between the good food and excellent service, I can definitely see why locals love this place. Delicious spot! I was craving a vermicelli noodle salad with egg rolls and this place delivered. It was fresh and ready fast. Price is reasonable especially for the portions. Despite the limited seats and only 2 open tables on a Saturday night, I think this might be one of the better Phos in the Twin Cities! Pho Dac Biet, which has an assortment of meats like steak, meatball, etc. Egg Rolls: 8/10 I liked the crispy exterior and it was wrapped tightly. Ny only issue is the price, I found it to be rather high for what you get conpared to other establishments. Pho: 9/10 Splendid! The soup was subtle but flavorful, the noodles were delicious, and all the meats had a nice flavor. I found it to be on par with Pho Hoa on Nicolett in my opinion. Overall, service was simple but quick. I wasn't waiting too long and definitely felt homely in the restaurant. Vermicelli Salad (5/5) grilled pork was extra flavorful and the meatballs were surprisingly delicious. Pho (5/5) - their rich and comforting beef broth was perfect on a cold winter day. Eggrolls (3/5) eggrolls had a great crunch, but the flavor was fairly average. Our friend had the A1 Special Bun Bo Hue and it looked incredible as well. My bowl of pho was half eaten already before I took the picture because it was that good, but I would recommend this restaurant! It feels authentic and locally owned. My fiance and I had the pho, and it had a strong star anise flavor and was on the sweeter side, which I personally really enjoy! My fiance also got the ca phe sua da and it came out still dripping from the phin, so you know it's fresh. Service was also super fast, we got our food and drinks in less than 5 minutes. read more

This is probably my favorite Vietnamese food spot in Saint Paul, and on a street where there are so many, I still think Trieu Chau is the best. Having bún bò huế, which is basically thick rice noodles in spicy broth with flank, tendon, steak and pork, on their menu is already a big plus, so when my friends and I went there, I ordered that right away, knowing that it would be a true testament to their food authenticity. It did not disappoint. The broth was very flavorful and really enhanced the flavor of both the noodles and the meat. I didn't feel the need to add any sriracha or hoisin sauce to anything because by itself it was just solid. My friends ordered phở tái bò viên and a chicken & mixed veggies lunch combo, and both of them had great things to say about their respective dishes. The phở contained steak and beef meatball, and my friend specifically mentioned that the broth was flavorful, and even proceeded to drink the entire bowl of broth afterwards. Knowing that it's the broth that counts, I believed what he said, and he was a relatively picky eater when it comes to Asian food. Last time I came to Trieu Chau was more than 5 years ago, and it is great to see that the business is still running. It was also pleasant to see many Asians dropping by the restaurant to have some food during their lunchtime like this place is a neighborhood working class lunch spot for the Asian communities around Frogtown. Tasty pho, easily accessible to the Light Rail. I stopped by here after needing to burn a few hours waiting for my car to be serviced. It's on university, so it's easy to walk and once you regain your energy from eating, there's a few Asiatic grocery stores in the area to stock up for home. The staff sat out front and let you have your table of choice. They stopped by with a water and handed me the menu. Unfortunately Bahn Mi are only sold on the weekend, so I settled just pho for a late lunch. 135. pho dac biet The house or combo pho entry. It has all the meats. This joint serves Thai Basil, bean sprouts, and a slice of lime as the accoutrement. The broth wasn't overly spiced and had a slight sweet taste. I'm not a fan of meatballs, so I asked for a substitution with extra tendon instead. The tendons weren't as gelatinous as I would liked. I want my tendons with the consistency like a jello, but meat flavored. It was a little... al dente. The tables have your standard sauces; fish, hoisin, sriracha - Tabasco branded instead of the Huy Fong. Overall fairly tasty and ample supply of meat for the order. Best pho in the TV and it's not even close. I used to get the rare steak one but have since switched to the tofu and veggies pho which is great. I'm not vegetarian but if you are it is made with beef broth. It's absolutely delicious and fresh. We always get the cream cheese puffs for an appetizer and you can't go wrong with these either. So I decided to come back here for Pho since its been quite a while...before the pandemic. Its a tiny little spot even as it is a standalone building. Pho Fawn/Trieu Chau has been around in Frogtown for a long time. It received the Best Vietnamese Restaurant award 3 times from City Pages, the most recent award in 2018. I remember back before they had the addition to the entry built, and whenever the front door opened the sub zero temps would pour into the dining room. The entry made it a lot more livable in that regard. I was seated right next to the door, and it was okay. But then it was a 30 degree day. If it's much colder it would jot have been ok. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, which is my one of my favorite Vietnamese noodle dishes. The broth was heavenly...truly one of the best in town. The noodle portions were very much on the small side. I regretted not ordering extra noodles. Aside from that it was an excellent bowl of Bun Bo Hue, with a full bodied and amazing broth and flavorful meats. The missing one star is the reason why I don't come here often. I was reminded of that this time again: service. They do not have assigned tables per server. This ONLY works in big dim sum restaurants where there are 2-3 "Captains" watching the room like a hawk, and yells down folks to serve whom they see fit. Without leadership, which Pho Fawn absolutely lacks, we're at the mercy of the young waitresses who make minimum wage. I had to flag down someone to place my order. The food took FOREVER. Finally, I almost had to yell down the waitress to give me a check. Well the pluses are they have yummy food and off street parking. Strikes are terrible service and a singular stall bathroom for this whole place. Good luck if someone has a little gut problem (which happened to me as I had to wait 15min to get into the bathroom.) Trieu Chau is a hole-in-the-wall spot that serves hearty, albeit oily, Vietnamese comfort food. As always, three stars is NOT a bad review in my book. It means a place is perfectly fine. We got the tofu chow fun ($12.25) which wasn't bad but wasn't amazing. The hot & spicy tofu w/lemongrass ($14) was super spicy but also crazy oily. The sauce also congealed into a gloop pretty quickly. This is the type of dish you wouldn't necessarily want to eat often, nor take home for leftovers. They also offer banh mi, but only on Fridays and Saturdays. We got their at 7 p.m. on a Saturday and unfortunately they'd sold out by 5 p.m. The service is fast and friendly. Expect to see a mix of families and single people eating pho. read more

COVID UPDATE: I've been hoping this restaurant opens up once again and it has for dine in! They have markers on the ground outside to enforce social distancing while people wait. Masks are required to enter and workers also wear their mask. There are only 6 tables available for dine in. They provide hand sanitizer in the entrance which is awesome and have a poster giving more information about Covid 19. Now they give chopsticks in plastic bags and have done a great job adjusting to the new "normal" Food: The food is delicious as I remembered it. I ordered 142 and an order of cream cheese puffs. I mean you can never go wrong with the Pho here. Once fall and winter hits there is nothing like having a hot bowl of Pho. If you are having a bad day get some Pho, if you are going through a break up get some Pho, if you are celebrating a birthday get some Pho, if you are bored just get some Pho. I recently visited Minnesota to visit family. One of the places I visited was Trieu Chau Restaurant. Growing up in an asian household, I've had my fair share of authentic asian food and can give an honest review of this Vietnamese restaurant. I went on a weekday and there was no wait to be seated. Like typical asian hole in the wall restaurants, expect asian-style service but with good food and this is no different. I ended up ordering the Bun Bo Hue and the Bun Thap Cam.   Bun Bo Hue -An exquisite spicy Vietnamese beef and pork soup. As reference, I have a go-to Bun Bo Hue location back at home and in comparison, the flavors were similar but were missing some of the key ingredients. Trieu Chau's Bun Bo Hue had an excellent savory and slightly sweet taste with a good spice level. In some of my prior experiences, the spice level would be literally face-numbingly severe. Sadly, the Bun Bo Hue here was missing pork bone and blood cubes which is a classic. Bun Thap Cam -Vermicelli noodles with pork meatballs, grilled pork and egg rolls. The meatballs came in x4 on a skewer and cooked to perfection. They were perfectly seasoned and tender to bite into. I would highly recommend getting something with the meatballs! Otherwise, the grilled pork was well-seasoned and delicious but slightly dry. Lastly, the egg rolls were packed with tons of filling and fried to perfection making it taste great.   Overall, I am happy to have stopped by Trieu Chau Restaurant. I was satisfied with the quality of their noodle dishes. The staff was friendly and quick to provide their services. I will definitely be back to try the rest of their menu whenever I visit Minnesota again! read more

Hot and delicious food served lightning fast! I don't know how they do it, but it you're hungry and need to eat quickly, this is the best restaurant in town. I highly recommend curried shrimp and vegetables (#51) and their beef or chicken pho. (Make sure to add broccoli!) Their chicken wings arrive HOT and crispy so give them time to cool down. Service is efficient over friendly, but that's okay with me- they get your order right and deliver quickly.There is nothing bad on their menu. This used to be one of my favorite pho places in the Twin Cities- I usually just get the regular beef pho because lately I've been feeling like the service is going down and the quality in the beef went down. The cream cheese wontons were mediocre. The last few times I have been there the server was slow and unfriendly. This is a small local business with not many tables and definitely not ideal for a big group. Although parking is also limited I never had problems before. But I'll keep coming because this is one of my family's favorite places for pho. read more

Was given this place as a recommendation for "fast pho" years ago. After many visits, I have yet to try the pho, although it looks so yummy every time I see it come out of the kitchen. Service here is always quick once you are seated, but be aware, the space is small and can fill up quickly. My absolute favorite thing here is the egg roll salad. It's like getting 2 meals in one to me. You get 2 egg rolls on top of a very large salad with noodles and veggies. A limeade drink on the side just tops it off.
