Very much enjoyed a Friday night takeout for us and some friends from Woodstock/Crystal Lake (we delivered to them so we could all enjoy socially distant). I ordered baked walleye and husband had battered fried cod along with sides. Scrumptious! Friends reported they loved their meals as well. All elements of carry out meal were covered and staff could not have been more thoughtful and capable. Give Trio Grille big bonus points for abiding by mitigation efforts and not offer indoor dining til the coast is clear. Urge all to support their ethical efforts to curtail spread of Covid...while enjoying a great meal! read more

We go to Trio Grill 5-8 times a month. Food is very good and service is as well. I have used them to cater lunches at my work a couple of times. I have told many people about Trio as they wanted catering, too. Today for the first time in my life I was asked to move from a tall top bar table to the bar when I hadn't even been given a bill. There were other tables open and my wife and I were finishing our drinks and talking. I don't care how long a line is at the door, I have never been pushed out of my table before. 5-8 times a month has just changed. Maybe I am old school but this was just flat out rude! Word of mouth can be a positive thing or a negative thing. Bill over $80.00 and get moved. Treat every customer like they are your best customers, right?! read more

I just hosted a baby shower in the private room here at Trio Grille and it was excellent. The room is clean, spacious, well-lit and well equipped. Our dedicated server was outstanding; thank you Jennifer. The food was house made and well prepared - the chef came out when I arrived and went over the details with me personally. From the first call I made to set up the party to the end where they were helping us load presents in the car, this place was the best in customer service. 12 of us went to Trio Grille this past summer. We all met when the kids were still in strollers. Now some of "the kids" are in college, others finishing highschool. While the kids bowled the adults enjoyed some libations, good food, and enjoyed visiting. Try the wings - delicious! Good times, would return for sure. read more

Went to Trio Grille Friday after a while found out that my favorite bartenders weren't working there anymore, now their service sucks i had some drinks and they didn't make it like my other two bartenders, then it took a long time to get my food and then the food was cold and it wasn't good. Does anyone know where is Kaitlin working and the other hot guy that was bartending with her, I have been looking for them but i dont know where they work. Stopped in last night for dinner. The food was absolutely delicious. I got the taco trio and the shrimp tacos are to die for! The vegetarian taco was amazing, too, but the shrimp taco is what I will return for. I've been imagining it since last night! I would love to give the restaurant 5 stars, but there were some downsides to the visit. Services were a little slow, and the kids menu is expensive ($6 for a hot dog and fries, and they never offered my son the ice cream that comes with the meal). The menu was out of date. Initially we ordered a Duck appetizer, but they stopped serving duck. Also, one of the taco options listed duck, and I was looking forward to trying it. So, that was disappointing. The service is good. Tim is friendly and quick. The food isn't bad I enjoyed my black and blue burger but the serving size compared to the price is poor. Burgers are only a 1/3 pound - I'm not a pig but there are other local places that give more for the same or lower price. Maybe I was expecting more based on dining other places. read more

We met another couple for dinner last Saturday night there. We all ordered the NY Strip Steak and Shrimp Entree. We all were completely blown away on how awesome our steak was - melted in your mouth and was cooked to perfection. Something has happened here, and I don't like it. I used to go out of my way to come here, but not anymore. The quality of the food has declined, as has the quantity. I ordered a salad and it was a chopped fairly fine mess piled low on a oval plate. No special ingredients, and it cost $10. I was still hungry when I got done. And I never am. The loaf of bread they serve is still great...but that was it. The place was barren on a Saturday night. I hate to tell them, because these are nice folks, but people come out to eat FOR THE FOOD. I don't know if it is someone new in the kitchen or cutbacks in their budget. Too bad, because I really liked the ambiance here. So Back to Woodstock I go.... read more

I would not recommend. I have had 3 meals there over the course of a year and I found all of them under standards for the price versus the quality. Many other choices in Marengo that I think are a much better choice and nicer atmosphere as well. read more

We had our first trip to the Trio Grille. We saw some negative reviews and hesitated to try it. But were we glad we did. This is a hidden gem. The service was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive and very helpful. Our food was delicious; we had the Friday fish fry with some of us having walleye and the others cod. The drinks were the most generous I have ever seen. We could actually hear each other unlike many other restaurants. We will be back to try their interesting menu! read more

Service was very good but food was cold. Server comped my meal because it wasn't what we expected. Both desserts we ordered at 7:00 pm were not available. Good food and drinks. My son loves that he can go play games while we are waiting for our food. It is nice for me also, so I can sit and relax. This was a delightful surprise. Thought we'd give it a try. Being attached to a bowling alley, we weren't sure what to expect. Turns out the atmosphere was pleasant, nice fireplace add to it. Food was great. House salad was fresh and crisp. Pizza had a crisp crust and lots of creamy cheese. Sausage was good, too. Service was spot on and hostess/manager was very friendly. We were fine with that. 40 minutes later they seated 2 more couples before me and my date. I am a league bowler here for 4 years now and I have seen staff come and go, some very good staff that cared. I have watched it go downhill for awhile. I bring my kids with every time I bowl and we eat every time we come, 4 of us. The food has come out inconsistent for the last couple of months, wrong sides or sauces, different ingredients than what was listed, as well as service lacking, taking up to 15 minutes to get our drinks. Tonight my I ordered the shrimp basket with a side of Buffalo sauce as I have for the last 4 weeks and it came out dredged in Buffalo sauce instead of on the side. It's not what I order but tried it anyways and it was unedable, soggy and inedable. I let my server know and she went to the kitchen and told me that they would make me a new order but I had to pay for the first one and half for the correct order that I originally ordered the first time. No manager came out to tell me, just the server. I cancelled the order. Not only am I disappointed but upset with the way the situation was handled. I ordered a $17 plate that came out wrong and was told I had to pay that and another $8.50 on top of that and my kids food, which also came out wrong. My one daughter ordered a hot dog without buns and it came on a bun of course I don't pay for that but again, server error. My 8 year old ordered a hamburger which i was charged for an adult burger, that was adjusted but again no one came by. I would like to see this place succeed but with the lack of management that seemed to "care" not only about a customer but a league bowler. Regardless, I would have liked to have spoken to someone who was in charge. Instead I was stuck with a hefty bill and hungry. read more

Shrimp tacos were delicious! Friday Fish fry was great. I had the baked fish and it was excellent. The salad dressings, tarter sauce and cole slaw were all homemade. Everything else we saw looked really really good. Cocktails were $5. Service was excellent and two piece band was fun all while watching the Hawks win! My wife and I had a gift certificate to Trio Grille and walked in with fairly low expectations, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The highlights were out-of-this world potato skins -- as in, not frozen, but two full-size potatoes cut in half and stuffed with bacon and cheese (possibly the best we've ever had) -- and their house-made onion jam, which I asked our server to bring with my burger. Unlike kitchen staff at other, similar casual places, the chef at Trio Grille isn't scared to cook a burger legitimately medium-rare. Every component of the meal was very good to excellent, including a peach cake with blueberry frosting that we ordered to go. My wife loved her Snickers martini, and I thought the beer list was pretty good (and cheap, if you're used to Chicago prices). The place was fairly empty while we were there (a Wednesday night from 5-6), but who cares? I'd rather not have a group of drunk middle-aged women screaming in the booth behind me. This is a weird complement to end on, but Trio Grille is in the category of restaurants whose food is much better than it needs to be given the fact that there isn't a ton of competition in Marengo. read more

Had the trio tacos and they were terrific! I've had the fish fry in the past and it is definitely the best in the area. Next on the list is to try the prime rib as I have seen it come out for other tables and my mouth drools every time. I'm adding this note after seeing that one bad review from three years ago is wrecking their rating. They have changed several things since that review, but I don't think that review is a god representation of their typical service or food even back then. Please concentrate of the recent reviews when choosing whether or not to eat here. Very nice place...used to be somewhat formal but since they added the sports theme its more comfortable. Quality of the food never went down...great sandwiches and entrees. Well priced for what you get. The servers are charming local folks. People are pretty excited to get a job here I know, so they must be treated well, and it shows with their service. My favorite is the Friday all you can eat fish. They have more than fried available, too. The baked AYCE cod is best I can imagine. Yum. I go there for a nice place to take friends and out of towners because of its excellent consistency, but they also have decent entertainment. In same building as a very nice little hi-tech bowling alley- mid to upscale set-up, but very affordable. Arcade and snack stand in the large lobby area. If you bring your kids they have a place to go if the adult conversations get boring. I believe they have a large party room and the bathrooms are state of the art. Nice Dyson hand dryers. New and clean place. Couldn't be easier to reserve lanes and rooms for parties. read more

We have enjoyed our dinners at the Trio. We have gone with our family and also on a date night. We enjoy the music, we like that there are different musicians so we can pick the ones that are our favorites. We enjoy the eveings when the music is played for background music. My new favorite entree is the pork with bacon and cranberry something over the top. YUM! We love that the menu has choices for our entire family. We have noticed that the staff has changed and that has made a more enjoyable experience. We will continue to enjoy the Trio and our kids love to bowl while we relax. Absolutely LOVE Trio Grille! Not only is all the food amazing, everyone that works there is great too! Very clean establishment. I recently held a Quarter Auction there and it was a great place to work with. They made sure everything was ready and the way I wanted it for my event and if I need anything they made sure to help me right away! My daughter loves the fun center there. Lots of games for all ages! There is even a bowling alley there! Although we haven't tried the bowling yet (we will soon)....it looks fabulous! Went to Trio Grille for fish fry last Friday, which was highly recommended. They have live music on Fridays, which none of us wanted to be disrupted by, so we went early in order to finish our meal before the 8pm start time. When we showed up at 6:45 the music had already started and was extremely loud and harsh through cheap speakers. There's no point in complaining about the talent, nobody could have sounded good at this volume and through these speakers. The music was so disturbing that I couldn't hear the waitress to order and I eventually decided to wait outside until the food was ready, having someone call me when it was at the table. The food was actually pretty good, but the experience was so awful because of the early start on the live music that none of us want to go back again. A woman at the table next to us had her fingers in her ears for most of the time we were there, so we weren't alone in this opinion. I don't know what the management was thinking, but with an environment like that it doesn't matter what the food is like, it's just plain miserable. read more
