i'd like to preface this with : i am not a smoker of any kind.... no cigarettes, no e-cigg's…read more... nothing. BUT i do know great service when i experience it. i went to check out this product for my mother. back story - my mother has been a smoker for longer than i can remember. i've also been trying to get her to quit for as long as i can remember. i know that e-cigarettes are very new, and the effects of them have not yet been fully researched as far as long term. the dangers known so far are specific to the chemicals used in the liquids, and with heavy use, pneumonia due to the "water vapor" that collects in your lungs (c'mon guys.... what do you think the vapor is?). those factors in mind - my mother was attracted to this product mainly b/c my other family members use it, and b/c i wanted her to quit.... this was the compromise. after researching the very popular Volcano Vapor guys, and hearing praise and complaints from dozens of my friends and family about the V.V. product, we decided to keep looking. Smokeless Hawaii was recommended by several of my family members and some friends, so we decided to check them out for a few reasons: #1 - cheaper than V.V. #2 - much less crowded than V.V. #3 - location so how do they compare? - S.H. has a large variety of "juices" (flavored liquids) like V.V. - S.H. is much cheaper as far as product itself, and liquids - S.H. will replace any damaged products, even if it was your own fault they broke!! - S.H. tanks do not leak.... every V.V. user i've talked to complains that their tank leaks.... - S.H. is much less crowded than V.V., so if you have a lot of questions, or want to sample lots of their product before buying, they have the time to give you their attention - S.H. uses a 4 wick technology, that does not require you to spin the atomizer, V.V. uses a atomizer coil that eventually burns out more quickly than the wicks do, meaning you have to replace them more often - S.H.'s liquids are supposedly the only liquids that have been tested by the FDA - if you are a V.V. user, you can still buy juice from them as it can be used in any e-liquid cigarette. i also wanna throw in here - Gerald the owner is SUPER NICE and SUPER HELPFUL.... great customer service!! check out my pictures for more details! they come in a ton of colors, different models, different cases, all kinds of stuff. basically, if you're comparing V.V. and S.H... it comes down to cost and preferred product technology. the main points are Smokeless Hawaii is cheaper, their product does not leak, and their juices have been FDA tested. right now, they only have one location, in the back side of the old social security building in Pearl City.... there is a good amount of parking there, and they are right next door to "Holy Smokes". happy hunting!

Long Overdue: My First Time at Azuma's (And Why I'm Already Planning My Return)…read moreOkay, I have to be honest with you all -- I've been sleeping on Azuma's. For months, people have been telling me about their dried aku, and I kept saying "soon, soon." Well, soon finally happened, and I have nobody to blame but myself for waiting this long. Now, before I go any further -- yes, I forgot to take photos. I know. I know. But here's the thing: the moment that dried aku hit the table, all my food blogger instincts went completely out the window. It was just me and that fish, and nothing else mattered. The dried aku was everything the hype promised -- deeply savory, with that concentrated, almost smoky flavor you only get when something is made with real patience and skill. The kind of dish that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. Absolutely ono. No notes. Next time -- and there will be a next time, probably very soon -- I'm going in for the laulau. To this location though I do prefer it over the town location because it just feels so much more spacious and organized though don't ask me where to find a specific item the last time I've been here has been quite awhile. Love that Pearl City Shopping Center provides lots of free parking the great spots do fill up easily but you never have to wait to find a stall which is great to save on gas. The signs here are nice and clear so you know what items are found in each aisle the vibe here is just much more mellow and never a long line to check out does make it a calmer experience to shop whether it's for groceries, UH merchandise, luggage for you vacay or just that Japanese health item you can't live without all in one spot. I can't take the madness! And this Costco can definitely get busy during peak hours. Most workers are friendly and helpful here, so no complaints about the service. Even when I'm calling to check whether something is in stock, this Costco usually picks up the phone - which I appreciate. Merchandise can be hit or miss. I've noticed certain products come and go, so if you see something you love, stock up! You never know when it'll disappear for six months. I think my main gripe with this warehouse is the missing sale items. Over the years, I've noticed they sometimes won't have products listed in the coupon book, and even when you do find the item on the floor, it may not be marked at the sale price. You just have to take your chances and trust that when you get to the register, it rings up correctly. I don't love that. The Costco Tire Shop is... okay. Some workers are nice, while others are a little grumpy and antisocial. Not exactly the best customer experience, but I guess you get what you pay for. Growing up in a Costco family, I suppose I expect the service to be more like it was back in the day. I can see the culture has changed, so at this point, I just take my place in line and follow the minion way -- "Banana!" lol :)
