The location was convenient and only 15 minutes away from our hotel, and most of the hotels in Fresno. The lady who helped me I'm assuming it's her family business. She was such a sweet lady and very helpful with the menu! Reminds me of the Indian grocery store with a kitchen in the back. There were different food items on the wall I wasn't familiar with but I think may be popular with those who came from Africa. I ordered by phone for pick up I got the Egusi Goat stew and Fufu, the flavor was mild and the stew will pretty much take on whatever meat is cooked. I felt like the goat was a bit on the game side for me. I will probably try the chicken next. A bit on the pricey range but I get the rarity of this dish. this was my first experience eating african cuisine, and it gave a good impression. i would recommend if you are comfortable with bold texture and flavors. but this review is a little mixed because i liked some things but not everything in terms of the food itself and portion/cost. i tried two different egusi with the oat fufu: mild chicken and spicy goat mild chicken egusi: chicken was cooked good. not overcooked and is tender. flavor was plain, so if you can't handle spicy or strong this is a starter dish spicy goat egusi: goat meat was tough, and i wish it was more tender. this kind of meat was normal for those who can handle gamey dishes (goat stronger than lamb as a reference). however the flavor profile was very memorable and there was a distinct herb/spice taste! really unique and would get again but with beef instead oat fufu: similar texture and feel to mochi, very mild taste. the taste is hard to describe, kind of like a whisper of potato and dough mixed together the service was nice and the woman working the front was finished with my order in less than 15 mins. beware it comes out piping hot the cost was on the expensive side however, for the amount you get. i paid $28, and that was only single serving of egusi with fufu read more

Egusi w/ Chicken and Fufu--egusi was full of flavors, the spices was well-balanced, and the chicken was not too hard or soft, but has a good flavor and decent to eat. We ordered 2 bowls with 3 chicken drumsticks each, along with something called fufu (hope I didn't butcher the name). Before ordering, I specifically asked if one bowl would be enough for two people, and I was told it was considered a small portion. With that in mind, we ended up ordering two bowls at about $25 each. We originally planned to dine in, but the temperature inside was unbearable -- it honestly felt like a sauna. I ended up waiting in the car because it was so hot inside. As for the food, I'd say it was average at best. I was expecting something amazing based on the reviews and pricing, but that just wasn't the case for us. We also specifically requested medium to mild spice, yet the food still came out pretty spicy. For over $50 total, I just expected a lot more in both flavor and overall experience. I was really excited to find out there was an African restaurant here in Fresno because I used to get mine in Oakland back when I lived there. I had been craving egusi soup, fufu, and jollof rice. I placed my order over the phone and was told it would be ready in 30 mins. I got there and had to wait another 15 mins. Here's the kicker, the man OPENS the fridge and shuts it. There's no way my food was about to get reheated. But it seems like it did. My jollof rice was soggy, the chicken was soggy & burnt, and it smelled off. The egusi looked fine but also smelled and tasted off. I'm sorry but these items were definitely not fresh and smelled and tasted like the food + dirty smelly socks. $54 for two dishes minus the tip. I understand it's their recipe & it's probably expensive to import the ingredients but I was very disappointed with the freshness & flavors. For a week a friend and I have been looking forward to having lunch and when we arrived at 11, the opening time posted on door, the place was dark, doors locked and so we called. Asked give them time and they would show up. Sat and not only are there no lights turned on, but they only serve bottled water that they charge for, no choice of water in a glass. The menus were given to us and they weren't even wiped clean, should of been the clue to leave. I ordered and my friend ordered the Goat meat and fish dish. The only thing you could see was the fish bones at the top of the dish. $30.00 (really?) I ordered the Chicken Peper Soup, pictured below, not appetizing at all. Chicken bones stand out the most. The taste was peppery, but just put the lid back on the plastic bowl and asked for the check I've eaten in a lot of places in my 22 years of living in Fresno and this has had to been the worst, Food may be okay for take-out but never have I been served in-house where food was served in take-out containers. If I could give this less than 1 star, I would. I got egusi with goat meat & pounded yams on the side for $28. that's a lot for how little I was served. When I got home and opened the egusi, I immediately saw that the soup was super coagulated. Thinking it could be anything else, I tasted it and it's just pure fat. The soup was also extremely bitter and the meat tasted old. I got really scared to swallow it. The soup also had a strong taste of Saran Wrap, so I could tell this was wrapped and frozen. I understand that a lot of businesses are slow and some places feel no need to over buy on products, but i don't believe I should've been served reheated food for $30. Fresh is what I look for when I eat out. This was disappointing. :( read more

Excellent food. My husband is from Africa and he says this food is very authentic! I've tasted his Family cooking several times and I can safely say this food tastes just like it! It was very good! I would give this place 5 stars for the flavor of the food however I believe the price and the time it took to receive our food would veer me away from ordering for just the two of us again. Now if I had an event or a large amount of family visiting from out of town, I'd definitely be ordering through them since they offer catering regardless of the price and I'm sure they would have the food ready on time for a catered event. We ordered 4 mini meat pies, 6 puff-puff, and one order of Egusi soup. The meat pies were delicious. I thought they could have used a little more meat filling which my husband agreed on but otherwise they were perfectly soft and had great flavor. 2 for $5 which was good. The puff-puff were the only thing I can say I did not like due to them tasting like they were soaked in grease. They reminded me of a giant donut hole without frosting. I think they would naturally be very enjoyable if they weren't greasy. $.75each The Egusi was amazing. My husband was saying Wow, Wow, Wow, as he ate it lol. My only problem is that is was $17 for a small bowl. Yikes, that's pretty steep. I just can't see myself spending that again just for one small bowl. I think I could go to the grocery store and get enough ingredients to cook a few days worth of Egusi soup at that price. $35 was our final price for a pretty small amount of food. My husband called in our order on Saturday. He asked for it to be ready for pickup by Sunday at 1pm. He arrived around 1:30 expecting the food to be sitting there waiting. When he arrived the food wasn't ready and he waited 45minutes until it was done. We are thankful for fresh cooked food but we did order a day ahead of time and we missed out on our personal date time while the baby was asleep for a long nap so it was a bummer. It wasn't the end of the world or anything but just thought that it might be a good idea to mention that you might want to make sure you aren't on your way somewhere when you pick up your to-go order. The reviews that say the prices are much higher than advertised are correct. I wanted soup, fufu and jollof rice, but all of this would have cost me close to $60. I opted for fish soup and fufu only which was still $30. I didn't even eat it because the fish was a whole fish! The fufu was good but overall this was a waste of money. I recently found someone else in Fresno who not only cooks African food but delivers it. Every Friday I'm able to get my African food fix without these inflated prices. Super excited to find out there is a Nigerian restaurant in Fresno. I have been hearing good things about Nigerian food. I have had Ethiopian food before and love it. I wasn't sure how similar the cuisines are to each other but I had high hopes. I got the chicken soup and fufu, cost about 27.99. Which is super expensive, and honestly it was not worth it in my opinion. However, I wanted to experience Nigerian food so I figured why not. Not a big fan of the soup, I think it has eggs, spinach and mushroom. There was a seasoning in there that I really did not like. It was a little bitter and that flavor was over powering. The fufu however was good in my opinion. I ended up going to The Crawfish Guy and dipped the fufu in that sauce lol. Agreed with many people that the chicken was overcooked and two chicken legs for $27.99. Not worth the money in my opinion. The staff are super friendly though.
