I love this neighborhood spot! This has become my daily go-to, perfect for a quick coffee in the morning, grab a quick snack, they also even have a perfect (small) beer & wine selection and have packs of smokes! This place is very simple, but extremely convenient to have right in our neighborhood. Prices are very affordable as well -- The best part is that they're super dog friendly and always welcome my pup in with treats! The staff is super friendly & nice. I wish people would stop complaining about the lack of seating -- it's more like a homey bodega atmosphere! read more

I wasn't looking for anything too big, so I just got a bagel with vegan cream cheese ($8), pretty steeply priced -- you can get something similar at Grendel's nearby for much less ($2 for a vegan plus $1 for spread). I walked in at 12:55pm not realizing they close at 1pm (damn) and asked for an iced Americano. I then realized the barista had to pull some clean tubs for the espresso machine and I was like OMG nooooo and felt so bad but they were really nice and said it's no problem and then someone else walked in and they helped them, too. The spot is super cute inside and they have outdoor lil picnic tables. I love that they're closeby and I treat myself once in a while to an iced Americano. It was yummy and not bitter. Yay!!! They have some iced teas, snacks and vegan/gluten free pastries and interesting drink combos. The brownies and coffee cake were staring at me but I had a cookie at home waiting lol. This place is no longer a cafe with indoor seating. There are a few outside tables along the side of the building. They still have an espresso bar and pastries, but it's now a bodega/market that sells specialty snacks and candy, beer and wine, and cold drinks. read more

I've only ever had bad experiences here. Think "The Weiners Circle" in Chicago except you didn't know you were going to be treated like crap. The owner specifically seems flustered, cant get orders right, and treats other service workers very unprofessionally. Overpriced too and even if its totally empty I struggle to get the owners attention or be acknowledged. This place just makes me sad...well, really it's the owner. Today, I was asked to find another coffee shop, as the owner apparently took offense to me putting in a quarter in the tip jar last time I was in. In fact, she called it a "fuck you" tip, which is funny because I tip what I can, when I can. I didn't have any other cash, but I don't have to explain that to HER, do I ? Regretfully, I have spent too much money on her over priced menu. If you want a 16 oz coffee and and breakfast sandwich, it will cost you $14 (plus a tip)....If you don't tip, watch out! I like to support local businesses, but not one's that accuse me of mal intent. I've been supporting her business for about two years now--I think today's conversation was the longest she's ever managed with me. I was in the service industry for years and never took it personal when someone didn't tip. I don't know people's financial situation. I wish the coffee smell overpowered that place but unfortunatly, when you walk in you instantly get the whiff of "old house smell". You know that smell of wood that smells like mothball and dog pee. .. like a basement couch. The prices are a bit higher than most coffee shops which doesn't bother me if the decor or the taste was something that set it apart from another. My neighborhood coffee bar, and I love it here. Friendly baristas, Caffe Umbria dark OR medium roast (your choice!), Spielman bagels, and the kicker for me, pastries and pie from Crema! That's right, some of the city's best baked goods, bagels and coffee all under the same roof. Super cute interior that feels like home with lots of different seating options. There's cool clientele, too. Whether it's a small group from meetup discussing gender politics, a cute AF guy with a neck tattoo sketching, or a serious-business person getting work done. They are all here! The only thing I would caution about is there is only ever one person behind the bar. They do a good job, but if they have 3 drinks and a bagel in front before taking your order, it might be a bit of a wait. read more

I live in the neighborhood and have gone in many times, I am never greeted with a hello they are not friendly it's seems they are more preoccupied with making sure people are following the protocols inside the shop which I can respect but it is confusing knowing what to do when you enter. I also feel that their food is very overpriced my boyfriend got a breakfast burrito with microwaved eggs and it cost over $10. Inside the coffee shop is cluttered with a roped off working space for the owner and it is just not very inviting. I had Postmates deliver a sandwich and latte because I didn't want to deal with the aftermath of the Great Portland Snowstorm of 2016, so I haven't actually been inside Triumph Coffee. The Stevie Nicks sandwich was delicious and all the insides were stacked neatly. I don't know about you, but I love me a clean sandwich that doesn't fall out as I'm eating it. The Vanilla Malted Latte was soooo tasty.
