I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw they have gluten free hot dogs and buns, but believe it friends! And I don't normally eat much in the way of hot dogs, but let me tell you, this was perfect and hit the spot! A nice crisp hot dog and a perfectly warmed bun with toppings of choice, my first bite was like the scene in Ratatouille where one is transported to one's childhood! Friendly service, simple atmosphere with seating inside or out, though I suggest taking your (hot) dog for a walk on the pier and enjoy! read more

Casual hot dog stand. Very small on the inside, so we walked over to the park with ours. I'm not personally a huge fan of hot dogs but our large group was very excited. The menu lets you pick the type of dog (trolly dog, beef dog, etc.) and then the style (i.e. toppings). Menus also has burgers and a variety of other greasy food. Chili cheese dog was recommended by both our local friend as well as the staff, and it was very good. The staff seemed a bit confused/challenged sorting out the drink & chips for our party of 10, but otherwise they were pleasant enough. I would not describe them as "cold" as in some other reviews here. The grilled cheese was nice and cheesy. The cheese fries weren't particularly cheesy, but I enjoyed the fries themselves (reminiscent of Checkers/Rally's). Chips are standard Lays varieties. Fountain drink refills cost $1, which feels a bit lame, especially since the drinks were mostly ice to begin with. Solid hot dog stand. read more

Trolly Stop is a casual dive in Southport serving up hot dogs, burgers, ice cream and "Walking Tacos". The location is small but charming, with minimal seating and holler-over-the-counter ordering. I've only been here once and tried the All The Way Hot Dog and fries. My choice was tasty but tiny - order two if you're hungry. They offer several hot dog choices (beef & pork, all beef, all turkey, soy protein, all pork) and topping options (chili, coleslaw, and onion among a few of my favorites!). I was sure to ask for the "Secret Sauce" (a tangy sauce with horseradish) and enjoyed it as a spread and a dipping sauce. With the kind of cult following this spot has, I'd love to see them improve in the areas of customer service and product quality. read more

Trolly Stop rocks for a quick and easy bite to eat! They have really interesting hot dog creations. One being the "Cape Fear" which is melted cheddar and mayonnaise. I just HAD to try it. It was DELICIOUS! We also had their new walking taco which was delicious as well. Quick and easy meals are their specialty. I love Trolly Stop! When I vacationed on Oak Island, I think we came here at least three times. It's a great place to grab a quick bite to eat while shopping in Southport and enjoying the beach breeze. There's no pretension here: basic hot dogs, basic buns, basic toppings, so don't go expecting a four-star meal! Trolly Stop offers about ten or twelve signature dogs with different toppings like chili, bacon bits, jalapenos, kraut, mustard, etc. My favorite was the North Carolina, but all of the varieties I tried were good. The decor is nothing to write home about, but who expects a hot dog shop to be fancy? Line up, place your order, and grab a stool if one is available! read more

This is a good place to get a hot dog fix. I don't think they have anything that makes them stand out from most other hot dog stands... different types of hot dogs with several different toppings options. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but it's convenient if you are in Southport (and I would certainly eat here over chain fast food). It is really tiny inside - get it to go and head to a picnic table less than a block away on the riverfront for amazing views! read more

What a great, small place to stop when visiting Southport! I loved the staff--they were very friendly (even though I was called out for getting chili and tomatoes on my burger ). Save your time, and your money. This was by far the worst hotdog and fries that the wife and I have ever had. The dogs were hardly cooked at all, and the fries were old and overdone. The dog seemed like it had just been removed from the package, thrown on the bun, and then covered with brown mustard, slightly warm chili and a heaping pile of slaw and onions. The fries had apparently been left down in the grease for much too long, and then left under the heat lams for a few hours, before being given out to the customers. NEVER AGAIN! This place is a pitiful excuse for a food service establishment. Along with bad food, it's ridiculously overpriced. $2.75 for a hot dog? That's airport level pricing, and it's not in the airport... Went here recently with my mom and niece. My mom ordered an all beef hotdog on a gluten free bun and enjoyed it. It is tough for her to find tasty gluten-free baked goods, but she certainly did here. The French fries were delicious and I also enjoyed my smoked sausage. I actually flipped my tray in the floor and lost my hotdog and fries as I first sat down. This was a great place to stop for a gluten free all beef hot dog and GF bun also. Pick your dog and then the style. We ordered 7 different hit dogs to get a taste of the menu. We had a great fast lunch for under $20. The Mexican and Nuclear styles were awesome, and the Chicago style with cucumbers was a hit with my oldest daughter. This place is so good! Every time we are in Southport, we stop here. I've had their Cape Fear dog (mayo and melted cheese) and others as well. Dogs are so good! We also got their chili cheese fries, the chili was very good. The service is always so friendly. Their ice cream is also always good. We seem to go to Southport in the off season, so no typical tourist ice cream place is open. Trolly Stop has great ice cream! The price also is cheap. The service was a bit slow but the food and ice cream was good! The area for the line is a bit small so it can get crowded very easily but it cleared out. The bathrooms are pretty clean but they didn't have paper towels. And the table area by the line had some personal belongings of either one of the staff or a customer but other than that it was clean.
