Worth the wait, bring exact change, and mind the parking out front as backing out could be a challenge. After that, flattop grilled burgers with fresh toppings along with hand cut fries are the stars. Get it to go or sit outside on the picnic tables. Can't go wrong here. read more

Fat Andy's used to be my "go to" butger and fries stop because they were so good...until they weren't. The past three visits over the last few months has been unsatisfying. Check your orders before you leave. I did learn to check my orders and caught a wrong order before I left today. Unfortunately I did not check my two orders of french fries. Included here is a photo of my fries orders. Only a few of the fries are edible. The others were burned and barely warm. They had to be tossed. The fries used to be so good. Mike (Andy's brother) was there to help answer our questions about the menu and got right to work putting our lunch together that came out quickly. It didn't disappoint. I had a bunless burger with bacon which was quite tasty with their slaw on top. My husband's DD burger with bacon & cheese was hefty and full of flavor. What an enjoyable experience. I have been on Oak Island for a couple months and I have passed this place many times. I have had cravings for burgers and had one bad one on Oak Island and a great one in Wilmington. I decided it was time to give Fat Andy's a chance. Their menu is simple and to the point. I had a cheeseburger "all the way" and a hot dog the same way. I also got a small fry. Let's start with the fries since I ate those while driving back to work. While they were a little underdone for my tastes they still had great flavor and the right amount of salt. Next came the hot dog. Small and simple but delicious. The hot dog had good flavor and the chili was seasoned well. Last came the burger. For $7 it was a little small but ended up filling. There's nothing flashy hear. My meal was $15 without a drink, which is not horrible when the food is good. I don't like the leap in pricing from single burger to double ($5 difference). Worth it when compared to other burgers I've had locally. I definitely suggest you give it a try. I can see this place being super busy during the summer months so be patient. The burgers were amazing!! Family members had hotdogs and enjoyed those too. There are no restrooms so be prepared. Staff was very friendly and there are several picnic tables to eat outside. We loved our double cheese burgers! So happy to find this place with fast service and outdoor seating. We spent 5 days at the beach and only went out to eat once. We have been coming to this beach for years but never stopped in for a Fat Andys until today. Unfortunately, this was our first and last burger from this establishment. My wife had a single cheeseburger and I had a double. We also got an order of fries. Our total was $24 - my double was $13 alone, no drinks or anything else. Based off all the glowing reviews we were excited and thought it was high but fair for a quality burger. We were quite disappointed. Both of our burgers patties were dry and lacked seasoning. The bun was nothing special either. The fries were just ok. The patties were kind of like a frozen bubba burger shape or a preformed patty. Not a "smash" burger like another reviewer stated and definitely not a 5 Guys either. If you are charging a premium for your food, then it has to have more flavor and be something special. Sorry Fat Andy's, but a regular old Golden Arches has you beat, and that is not saying much. The staff was really nice! And even with a few people in line it moved quickly. But we were sorely disappointed. And with all the other great places to eat, we won't be back. If you are craving a juicy flavorful burger, look elsewhere. read more

Now they make you wait 10-20 mins while they make the first 3 orders out. So now you are waiting to simply order. Prices changed sizes changed I'm feeling as though it's changed ownership. Either way I'm not willing to wait 20 mins to order a fast greasy yet delicious burger there are way too many other local options.
