    Some ube ginger drink
    Jan W.

Mostly sours offered due to the whiskey and tequila mixes. Opted for a rum drink. Although they were out they made something similar. Service is spotty but was able to get indoor seating while waiting [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool ambiance and vibe[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We arrived on a Saturday night around 9:45 without a reservation. Look for the green light in the alley. The hostess offered us standing room in the bar or to come back at 10:45 for a table- so we zipped around the corner to King Bee to kill an hour. We returned on time and was promptly sat- shout out to the hostess she was so nice. I ordered the tiki drink first, which was good but a little basic- tasted like a generic drink. However my second cocktail was amazing! It was the Japanese one with green tea and sake and like oil. It was crystal clear like water but then the taste exploded in your mouth- would order again! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall cool concept and great vibes![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This was a pretty cool spot and we had to go around and knock on the door with usually a password to get in but we didn't have to do that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had reservations for a party of 7. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music is kind of loud in the corner we were in but the vibes were cool and the decor were pretty.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The toilet, toilet paper and so much of the bathroom was black so I had to turn the flashlight on my phone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Haha My bf and I both got the zero proof drinks: * THE WINK AND NOD - PEACH TEA, CINNAMON GRAPEFRUIT, LIME, GRENADINE $10 * OKONOMIYAKI - FERMENTED ROSEMARY & GARLIC HONEY, GINGER, LEMON, BASIL OIL $10 The okonomiyaki was soooo good that I had to get another one! Highly recommend!

What a cool speakeasy experience! The vibe is eclectic, romantic, and full of character. When we arrived, we rang the bell a few times and, unfortunately, had to wait about 10 minutes in the cold before someone answered the door. Once seated, there was another wait before our order was taken. We tried four different drinks: Mezcal Blossom, Mi Besos Ranchero, Similares Sour, and Jan 1, 2001 Tokyo. My favorite was the Jan 1, 2001 Tokyo. I'm not usually a whiskey drinker, but I was intrigued by the "milk-washed" whiskey, and it did not disappoint--it was incredibly smooth! The hint of matcha was a perfect touch. Despite the initial wait, I'd 100% come back here--it's a unique and memorable spot!

Super sexy vibes in here yall! It's dark and moody ambiance is so fun. The decor is so well done and on theme for Mexico City vibes. We sat at the bar and ordered two mezcal cocktails and loved them!! We got el kyoto and mezcal blossom - both fruity and mezcal based. The mezcal blossom had such amazing flavors and lightness and the kyoto was fruity with raspberry and lychee. Both incredible - service was great even tho bar was packed. A little small bar and seating area so definitely make reservations to avoid waiting for a spot!

Trona is a very fun and eclectic speakeasy. I was in a group of 4 around 5 pm when the place had just opened up on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The bartender was so kind to make us tasting flights of the drinks we were curious about so we could taste before we place the order. We ended up getting the actual drink from the sampler because the drinks are THAT good. The art of these drinks was so cool and unique. It's nothing like I've ever tasted before. I also loved the ambiance, the music and the vibe of the place. Would 1000% recommend visiting here for the drinks and the vibes.

What an incredibly magical speakeasy in the heart of my neighborhood. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away to a true adult wonderland. In true speakeasy style, a passcode is provided to you just before your visit. Access is secured and you must follow the entry rules. Once inside it's truly like a dream come true. Mexican & Japanese worlds fuse together starting with the interior design and vibe. From the windows, seating, bar, and decor to the drinks and service. It's above four-star service. The drinks are true works of art served in a glass. Each sip taking you into another realm with flavor, design, and a real mastering of the cocktail. Signature and classic cocktails with a twist on fragrant tastes and zests.

Great place for upscale drinks. We were able to get a reservation on the patio for a Saturday night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patio is very nice and it basically feels like you're indoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I peeked my head into the bar, and the vibes were very dark and moody.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I actually prefer sitting outside because it was easier for me and my partner to talk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered five drinks total. From most to least favorite, we ordered the El Chepe, Fujiyama Mama, Odori Negroni, Oaxacan Ol' Fash, and River Daughter. The bottom two on our list were still good, but they felt less complex or unique than the other. The Odori Negroni was nice and smooth with a slight sweetness from the prickly pear gin. Definitely one of my favorite Negronis I've had. The Fujiyama is for people who don't want to taste alcohol in their drink. It is sweet, fruity, and tropical, and I loved the ube foam on top. The El Chepe was both of our favorites. It was on the sweeter side with the pineapple, but the pepper and cilantro added interesting layers of spice and herbal notes. Every sip was delicious. The service wasn't the most attentive because we were outside, but that just allowed us to chat and stay longer. There is also free parking in the lot nearby.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Aesthetic cocktail lounge in East Austin, but very limited seating and the inside definitely feels crammed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not a bad place to try once but nothing special on the cocktail menu + no food or light bites offered besides olives

I was afraid this would be another trendy spot with overpriced cocktails- but I found out I'm paying for the amazing quality they provided. The cocktails were fantastic. We tried three different cocktails during our date night. The Coco Frida was refreshing and minty, the Wakata- which was my favorite- was a twist on an Old Fashioned with chocolate bitters, and the Uruapan Expreso was delicious and arrived to the table with a fancy presentation. You definitely have to have a reservation, which can be hard to come by, if you visit W-S. Monday/Tuesday they allow walk-ins. This is a small space with limited seating. The employees were incredibly kind and different bartenders even stopped by the table to ask about our drinks and to check-in. We found everyone to be very friendly. We had a great night here! FYI- there is no food, just cocktails, so pair this spot with a restaurant for the perfect date night.

I cannot help but gush at Trona after 2 visits. I love a good cocktail bar, but there's lots of good cocktail bars in Austin. What are there not a lot of? AMAZING staff. Plenty of other bars have friendly staff that have done a great job, obviously. But something's different at Trona. Somehow the staff has made me feel like part of the family. The owner Tatanka is great and he's assembled an all-star lineup of bartenders and servers that really make it a 5* experience. This is one of the rare times "I'd give it 6* if I could." I posted a handful of photos of drinks I've had there, but for me the experience is what brings me back. Cocktails are great, clearly. Welcome to the neighborhood, Trona, hope you're here for a long time.

But it was more important to the Powder Room that the next group got their table on time, apparently. They had no issues when taking our second round order while we were seated, but we were asked to leave the table immediately after. This round also took forever and we drank it standing, crowded, in everyone's way. I was embarrassed as it was my birthday, and I was taking a group of 7 other people - new to Austin - here to check out what was one of my favorite spots. I was bragging about it and chose it over other spots on their list. They hated it. I'm disappointed. Our server was great to us and apologetic about the service bar.

Located off Anderson Mill in the corner of a strip mall is a bookshelf with a door on the right side. If you cannot figure out the entrance, there is a doorbell to ring as well. I believe it is owned by the same people who own The Mill bar right next door, which makes it feel like a cool bonus space. My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. I really enjoyed the chive oil. I followed with the House Negroni. This was hands down the best Negroni that I've ever had. The strawberry twist on it elevated it! I finished with a mocktail. I told Chad to surprise me and he made an NA version of the Yellow Margarita. I enjoyed this and it was refreshing! I mentioned to Chad that I like clarified cocktails so he made me a sample of the Clarified Piña Colada. It was really good! The melon and lemongrass gave it an interesting flavor. I was fortunate enough to return a few weeks later. Freya was working behind the bar and he was just as nice and personable as Chad. I tried the Blue Clover Club. One of the most attractive performing spaces in Austin…read more If they happen to be booking music that you like, you are made in the shade. * The club is on three levels. The Ground Floor: A larger than usual performance space. Larger than usual because it takes up the entire footprint of the building with no space set aside for seating. If you want to dance or they are packing them in SRO, the square footage is there. Okay - it is not as big as the Concourse Project which has an entire South-of the-Airport Industrial Warehouse to work with. But for downtown, it is huge. * The Mezzanine - This is one place to go if you want to sit down. The space is divided between a) a set of large leather chairs with a pool table in the middle. The pool table area is on an open balcony that lets you hear or even watch the bands from on high. There is a bench with stools right on the balcony edge for semi-comfortable listening to the band below. If I am listening to the music, I will take the leather chairs rather than a stool. Ever try boogie-ing on a stool? Ever get transported to a higher place by the mystic beauty of what you are hearing on a stool? Slapstick moments await. However, it is hard to argue with a leather chair for big time listening. b) the Mezzanine bar with and a bunch of chairs and benches near a bowling alley. ?!?!? on the Bowling Alley. The Great Lebowski never had it so good. If you push the matter, the bar might even be able to make you a White Russian. * The Roof - which has one of the nicest and most comfortable roof sitting areas in Austin. There are places with nicer roof views, but not very many places with as much seating and as much comfortable seating. And yes there is a music stage if management decides they want to mix things up soundwise. Mostly though, this is a perfect place to rest your tootsies if standing listening to bands has become too much for you. It is also the perfect safety place if the band downstairs stinks so much, you need two floors of real estate between you and the abomination on stage. * I can't speak for the quality of the bar. I was here for a German government sponsored SXSW showcase - in this case of all Berlin DJs. Berlin DJs are up there with Ibiza DJs for being the best that electronic dance music has to offer. (That night however, an unknown Austin girl filled in for a missing act - and held her own with the best of Berlin. Suxxy Puxxy. Keep your eyes out for her if you like to dance.) The German government was offering free drinks as part of the motivation for you to come in to German Haus and hear free music. No exotic hard to get German beverages but I was pleased to take the normal stuff they were offering. So how good the bar is or how good the musicians they book are are TBD. * * * I generally find the Mohawk is a hard standard to beat ... So it is hard to get me to shift to other clubs. Still the space offered by the Speakeasy is extremely appealing. It would not take much for me to make an excuse to come back.
