    Guava & Cheese Pastelitos
    Dennis W.

2:54 in the morning , and I'm driving thru Hialeah for reasons I'm not gonna get into. I felt a little hungry so I decide to swing by this Cuban Bakery that I knew would be open at that hour all courtesy of my fellow Yelper, Cid P. I pulled up and I seen all these vans and trucks parked around the entrance and all loaded down with fresh baked Cuban Bread. I walked inside the building and it was basically a Cuban Bread Factory. They baked the loaves to be picked up and delivered to other bakeries and sold there...; Maaan, I said I'm dealing with the plug right here! I asked the guy at the counter how much for a loaf, he says $1.50, I told him I'll take it. He goes then comes back with this looooooong loaf; The longest Cuban Bread loaf I've ever seen... Almost twice the size of a Cuban loaf I've seen anywhere else. I found myself a little impressed, then I turned and looked at the good looking Pastelitos they had baking on the other side. I asked how much, they told me $0.50! Nice! I got myself two of their Guava & Cheese. They were Yuuuuuge! I broke myself off a piece of the loaf and took a bite. My opinion of the loaf is similar to how The Godfather of Soul Mr. James Brown was describing himself in a 1985 interview: "It looked good, It smeelllllllled goooood. It feeeeelt good." And it tasted good. Sooo good. Hey, I'm born and raised here in Miami, and I've had my fair share of Cuban Bread but nothing like this. Warm and flaky and crusty on the outside, warm and fluffy and flavorful on the inside. These guys have totally ruined Cuban Bread for me from any place else in Miami. Yum. Oh yeah, the Pastelitos, they were hittin' too, the filling was so smooth and not too sweet and perfect, the pastries themselves substantial. For $0.50 a pop, that's the best single serving Pastelito bargain in town! You gotta come here if you're in the area. I definitely want to come back, I don't know about coming back here at 2:54 in the morning though... They got me in the car driving and munching on Cuban Bread while singing interpolations of old tunes from the band Ambrosia: Youuuuu're-the-only-Pan-Cubano, that-I-loooooooove...

Besides pastelitos you'll also find other goodies.

This is one of the best Cuban bakeries in town. They sell a variety of pastelitos(cheese, guava, guava and cheese, etc..) Cuban cafecito, and a fantastic Cuban bread that is about twice the size of a store bought. If you've eaten in any restaurant that serves Cuban bread before your meal, then it probably came from here. They distribute to all restaurants and then some. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the mood for some good Cuban pastries and delicious load of bread

Great cakes, all the classic Cuban pastries, and pastelitos and croquetas to die for (or from?)…read more What a way to go! I came here because more than a few people told me about their guava pastelitos. Let me just say, not all guava pastelitos are created equally! You get that after having one of their perfectly flaky and sweet guava pastries. They've been worked on by traditional bakers who know what they're doing. This also extended to the guava and cheese and cheese only pastelitos. So addicting. They'll ruin you for any other. This is a dive in a tiny strip mall with limited parking. There's no seating inside, so it's strictly grab-and-go. They're very efficient and nice.

Croquetas are my favorite here. Everything else it's just average and typical Cuban bakery stuff…read more The staff is quick to attend but getting good service is a flip of a coin. Sometimes great, others not very pleasant. This looks and feels like any Hialeah bakery that needs some TLC since it looks like it's stuck in 1998. Parking is terrible and sometimes dangerous because people driving on West 4th Ave confuse it with the Daytona 500 race track. But it's worth it for the croquetas. Here is a pro tip: croquetas are $1. But 25 party croquetas is around $8 as of this writing. But you get so much more for your money. If that's too much for you, just share them with friends or family...
